To think that Kingsmill isn't actually bread

I rarely buy white bread but it was all that the local shop had in stock yesterday. But this stuff (Kingsmill, Soft White) cannot really be classified as bread can it? Apart from not feeling like bread (it feels more like it has been sprayed with plastic to keep it rigid), it doesn't smell or taste like bread. Is it bread? Am intrigued as to who would buy this stuff out of choice.

Its like glue, my DC definitely prefer white but I refuse to buy that one, tis grim.

Oh but their Tasty Wholemeal on the other hand...i haven't eaten bread for 3 weeks, but I made their sandwiches with it on Saturday and it broke me...i ate a piece, buttered, just plain, and I sniffed it about a thousand times first!

No you are definitely nor being unreasonable. The revolting sliced stuff that passes for bread is no surprise though is it?

The craze for cheapness in all things (even when people can afford to spend more) is responsible for such shit IMO.

oooh good tip - I am always on the hunt for a nice bread. Best one so far seems to be the Aldi/Lidl home brand. Beats the others a mile off but I'll see if I can find Tasty Wholemeal next time I'm out.

If you want proper bread try the Waitrose pure rye. It's fantastic and is REAL bread. it also doesn't leave me tired all the next day, like normal wheat bread does.

YANBU!!! I ran out of bread flour to make my own so bought a loaf from the small local shop. Kingsmill was the choice and my god if that is the food of Kings no wonder so many of them went on to develop health problems.

I don't care for it much but my family like the 50/50 stuff. The white bread makes nice bacon butties and toast. I don't buy naice bread as it just makes us all eat tons of bread.

Either that or it all goes stale in a day and gets thrown away. Processed bread just makes sense for us.

It's hideous! Even my eight year old no longer likes it, he just has wraps now and is counting the days until we go on holiday and he can have proper French bread.

I'm so glad I am not the only one who thinks this. It is vile stuff and dp keeps buying it when he goes shopping. It doesn't even smell like bread it has a weird texture, taste and smell.

YANBU Kingsmill bread has the most disgusting smell about it.

We prefer Warburton bread if I not buying fresh bread.

We like the Waitrose brown Farmhouse stuff. The difference in price between this and the plastic-y cardboard is pennies, sometimes it's cheaper. If we need bread but aren't doing a big shop, our standard quality test is to look for a clear or partially clear bag and flour on the crust. Haven't yet been let down.

We don't have a lot of white bread but I've found lidl's own thick sliced in the orange packaging is lovely - 55p. It's great for toast. Lidl's own wholemeal is lovely too. It goes stale faster than branded but with teens in the house that's never a problem

this is my bread of choice! I grew up on hovis and kingsmill. I onow no different.

Have i been depriving my tastebuds? What should i try? Should add i have tried lidl own brand and was not impressed.

Yanbu. Sliced white bread has the texture of glue when chewed.
Dp and I are low carbimg and fresh loaves go stale on the same day for the dc who have sandwiches and toast.
Now they take rolls or wraps for lunch and I buy a rye loaf for their toast as it seems to last a little longer and not matter if it's a bit stale when toasted.

No bread is particularly good for you, so I wouldn't be so smug about only eating organic artisan loaves. I buy Kingsmill as it is made locally.

I prefer Warburton bread if buying it processed most of the time my dad buys kingsmill, and freezes it to stop it going stale his reasoning is that he only eats it on a weekend when my brother is there, but my brother refuses to eat it! I don't blame him it's awful don't flaming well buy any then!

Hate the stupid packing that Warburtons comes in though. It makes it hard to wrap it back up properly.

that's why I buy Brown bread or farmhouse bread! that shitty waxy paper is annoying, especially after a 6 year old has decided he's going to be helpful and make dinner while I'm cleaning the mess the 18 month old has made!
