To let go of the general assumption that stories and scenarios on a forum like MN should be true

Because mostly, I fear, they are not. I have to confess I simply do not understand the mindset that would sit and make up a whole story based on nothing but fantasy or what the author might deem a shocking or amusing scenario. I get that nobody will ever know why they do it - I suppose I'm just at the sheer quantity of it at the moment. I'm pretty sure there's only one or two people behind most of it - law of averages says there just cannot be that many bullshitters on one section of a huge forum - or can there?
And if there is a general feeling that a particular poster or posters are just making up shit but not actually trolling - well - is this OK? I don't think it is but I'm prepared to rethink if I'm told it is. What does everyone else think?

There are a lot of things about this thread that don't seem to be doing it for you crustaway.

Why don't you have a good scream. It can be quite cathartic.

And lump in people who are in a clear minority but still stick around mewling on about all the things they hate about the thread they are at perfect liberty to leave at any time.

Yes Maryz I'd rather say "You're a troll on your sixth name in as many weeks and you're exactly the same with every name you return with after being banned" but HQ understandably don't like it.

FarFrom but why should posters be just agreed with, the more refreshing threads are those when people are being asked to justify what it is they are saying. I loathe (but not enough to vomit over my keyboard) those threads where people not agreeing with the majority are told to "hide the Thread " if they don't like it.

Hide thread is a very underused function. There should be a tutorial when you join explaining it all.
I have often hidden a thread half way through from boredom. I have been known to hide threads after asking a question on them, because I realised after that I don't actually give a shiny.

I have literally just spat out my false teeth at "whack a troll". They're currently lodged in the side of the wardrobe such was the force of my guffawing!

What would help is either the start date that a Mner joined (not just latest name change) or number of times they have posted after their name. Those people like myself who don't have good troll antenna would at least be able to gauge the likelihood of their post being bullshit.
