I think Sky go totally over the top in a situation like the Paris attack.
There is a sort of switch pulled somewhere called 'Rolling News format' and then the schedule is diverted into a sort of blltz of repeated interviews, quotes from 'sources', and 'Breaking News' tags scrolling across the bottom of the screen that actually add nothing to our knowledge and become disjointed as well as disconnected from what is actually happening on the ground.
Watching the events unfold on Sky in real time I found myself reading MN and variety of other trusted blogs as they were much more insightful and useful.
Right now I have Sky on with random interviews from people in Paris that is just background noise. I have learned nothing from it all day. Problem is they have to fill the screen with something once they get into the 'Rolling News format'. The reality is the news just doesn't evolve that quickly.
Now I am watching Madonna giving a speech about the events.
Really? Is that news?
