To wonder why Kay Burley is still employed?

Why? Who? Just who thinks it's a good idea? She's just a terrible presenter/interviewer.

She's appalling, and can I add Lorraine Kelly to the list of 'how come they're still employed?' She drives me round the bend, cannot watch her and would actively avoid anything she advertises

saresywaresy2 · 12/06/2015 14:21

i couldn't possibly watch her do anything serious like that, i'd die of embarrassment. I did quite enjoy her baby charlotte coverage though, the sheer awfulness added a certain something :-)

paulapompom · 12/06/2015 14:23

Is she trying, and failing, to "do a Paxman"? I don't know her, but I'm gonna have a look now - sounds awful!

squoosh · 12/06/2015 14:24

Lorraine Kelly is awful. Her saccharine 'och I'm just a wee Scottish lassie' shtick does my head in. I bet as soon as the camera is turned off she's knocking back the bourbon and throwing her shoes at a producer's head.

wannaBe · 12/06/2015 14:24

She should have been sacked when she asked Steve Wright's wife whether it's possible he would have not murdered those prostitutes if she'd had sex with him more often. Shock

paulapompom · 12/06/2015 14:25

Why didn't I see this?! Feel like I'm missing out!

paulapompom · 12/06/2015 14:26

Bloody Hell WannaBe, that's truly shocking and offensive on soo many levels

MythicalKings · 12/06/2015 14:27

YANBU. She's awful.

paulapompom · 12/06/2015 14:30

Just googled her - there is an online petition to take action against her re. the Alton Towers iinterview - yaNbu

BettyCatKitten · 12/06/2015 14:34

TTWK Grin
I watch BBC insteadSmile

Perfectlypurple · 12/06/2015 14:37

I don't watch sky news, I am glad now. She is awful.

TwiceAsNiceAsIceAndaSlice · 12/06/2015 14:46

She is vile

Although I love this representation of her Grin

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 12/06/2015 14:47

She's hideous. There was no need for Paxman like interrogation in this case. The man was perfectly open & willing to answer questions - had he been given the chance. He wasn't a politician avoiding the topic at hand.

Wasn't it decided on another thread that she's involved with someone in "power" in some way? Which is why she got away with such disgustingly biased screeching interviewing around election time?

BettyCatKitten · 12/06/2015 14:52

I just can't see how paxman can be compared to her. I find her far more offensiveSmile

Damnautocorrect · 12/06/2015 14:56

She is awful. Whenever she's on though, I quite like the car crash and stupid comments. April Jones was another level though.
I have just seen on YouTube "the worst of Kay burley".

The CEO did very very well. He earnt his wages after that interview

ApeMan · 12/06/2015 14:59

I have always suspected she got the job through an unorthodox interview process, and kept the job through an unorthodox HR policy, because she seems to be a weapons-grade plonker.

HemanOrSheRa · 12/06/2015 15:00

I came on to say pretty much the same as LollyPop27. However, I will add that Kay Burley is also an odious, guff spouting windbag.

ApeMan · 12/06/2015 15:06

Bloody hell, just watched that worst of video. That question to the serial killer's partner was new to me, and I already cringe every time she appears to interview someone after something bad's happened.

That was... just unbelievable.

RedCrayons · 12/06/2015 15:14

She made me feel sorry for Peter Andre in that interview about his kids. Which is no mean feat.
Why would he tell her the details of that poor girls injuries. Just what the family don't need.

GloGirl · 12/06/2015 15:25

Link to the worst of video?

I reckon she's got something on Rupert M.
She reminds me of a sledge hammer trying to crack open a nut!

EponasWildDaughter · 12/06/2015 15:27

My goodness, just watched 'The Worst of Kay Burley' on You tube. What a cow the woman is! And caught on camera trying to throttle a rival! WTF?

She is indeed only interested in being seen as edgy and saying the things she thinks the viewers are thinking perhaps. Succeedes only in coming over as ignorant and unpleasant.

limitedperiodonly · 12/06/2015 15:36

OP what some others have said: she's so bad she's good.

I always have Sky News on and keep an ear open for promising car crashes. I caught her getting shrill on the Alton Towers interview - one of her favourite things is to address people sharply as 'Sir' so rewound it.

The CEO did quite well but he looked disbelieving, shocked and angry. If I was in his position I wouldn't go on her show. He probably doesn't know of her but surely he has a press office who should.

The other thing I like is when she gets the wrong end of the stick about something that you really should know and asks her army of viewers to contact the show to explain. I think she does actually believe she's loved.

The best one was a few years ago when she mistook the smear of ash on Ash Wednesday on Catholic Joe Biden's forehead for a bruise and insisted that the reporter who was talking about whatever important policy announcement Biden had made had missed the real story which was possibly that Mrs Biden was knocking her husband about.

The reporter clearly realised it was ash but didn't know what to say. Minutes later she gaily announced that the panic was over, it was just ash, not domestic violence.

The other good recent one was her interviewing Sir Ian McKellen and turning it into a cringey trip down memory lane about Wigan, where they both come from.

It was clear to everyone except Burley that Sir Ian didn't like her.

limitedperiodonly · 12/06/2015 15:39

I also used to enjoy her gruesome flirting with a sports presenter called Jon Desborough. I don't know whether he welcomed it or was just playing along.
