To wear makeup to the gym?

Dp says it's pointless and too much.

I wear under eye concealer, light foundation, and colour my cheeks so that I don't look half dead!

WanderingTrolley1 · 12/06/2015 11:37

Yanbu if it makes you feel better.

I used to, sometimes, if I felt especially crappy.

GobblersKnob · 12/06/2015 11:39

Christ people can be mean for no reason.

Wear whatever make up you want, tell your Dp it's fuck all to do with him, and don't ask on here as too many people are stupidly eager to get the chance to put another woman down.

Personally I can do 45 minutes of spin and barely break a sweat, I just dont, never have, have travelled to tropical countries in ridiculously high humidity, didn't really sweat then either, could easily wear a full face in either situation.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/06/2015 11:58

goodness I like to "look good" at the gym. not always but in general. How am I wasting my time being there from health/ fitness point of view? Why one excludes the other? Confused i haven't seen anyone yet with make up on whose face would be 'sliding off/ melting', etc.

GloriousGoosebumps · 12/06/2015 12:11

YANBU. Wear whatever makeup you choose to wear. I wear long lasting lipstick on my increasingly rare visits to the gym, so what?

PavlovaPalaver · 12/06/2015 12:13

I haven't left the house without makeup on since I was 14 as my skin has always been dreadful (acne & resultant acne scarring)

I wear light makeup to the gym - touch of foundation, touch of blusher & vaseline on the lips / eyes.

I'm not much of a schwitzer though so it doesn't slide off.

teatrailer · 12/06/2015 12:15

I wouldn't but the bins out without make up on.

Why would any one else care what your preference is, is your DH a bit insecure?

limitedperiodonly · 12/06/2015 12:20

I don't but why shouldn't you if it makes you feel better?

Not everyone's motivation is to virtuously improve their cardio-vascular system.

That's a side effect, but my primary motive is so my body looks good in clothes or without them.

fascicle · 12/06/2015 12:34

It's not your husband's decision to make, and besides, he's looking at it from a practical rather than a psychological point of view. You do whatever you feel is appropriate. It's important to feel comfortable when you are exercising/going to the gym. Never deter an exerciser.

BleachedBarnet · 12/06/2015 12:58

I don't wear make up at the gym unless I'm going straight from work, but it's actually for vanity reasons as I'm sure it's just as bad for your skin as sleeping in your slap. It's the same reasoning why I rarely wear much at the beach/on hol either. I try to keep my skin as clear as possible when I know sweating is happening or it's blocked pore central!

So am I smugly plain faced or just as vain as the rest? Grin

OP do whatever you like and your DP is BU to have a go, it's your face not his!

ChocolateTeacup · 12/06/2015 13:06

Your body (and face) your choice! If it makes you feel more confident then ignore what your DH (and others) say

TealFanClub · 12/06/2015 16:45

make up SHAMING is a bit ott as a term

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 12/06/2015 16:58

I don't personally wear make up to work out (hate gyms so never go) but I don't see what's wrong with anyone choosing to do so.

Gyms, to a whole lot of people, are horrible intimidating places - so if you feel a bit more self confident walking up to the treadmill / cross trainer / weights area wearing make up, or £100 trainers or expensive Sweaty Betty gear then more power to you.

So what if you sweat half of it off? (the make up, not the clothes - that'd be more concerning) If it makes you more likely to go to the gym in the first place then it's great - so long as you don't limit your exercise because you want to stay looking pristine.

LashesandLipstick · 12/06/2015 17:04

I always wear makeup in the gym. I don't put it on specifically to go, but I usually go in the evening so I go in it. I will usually take off my fake eyelashes though, just cause I don't want to damage them.

For everyone commenting about sweating - have you never heard of primer and setting spray?! What do you think people in hot countries do..?

Lavenderice · 12/06/2015 17:13

Teal look at some of the replies on here, I don't think it is OTT.

BabyMurloc · 12/06/2015 17:19

I never wear makeup and tbh never notice if anyone else does (unless they do the magic marker eyebrows. Aint nobody who doesn't spot that)

ahbollocks · 12/06/2015 17:29

My dh used to make daft comments like that, but I just say 'have you ever noticed that I dont comment on your appearance/hair/face? No? Well tbecause its none of my business, and rude'
Then big smile and waft off.
He hasnt said anything of the sort for 3 years now

Almostfifty · 12/06/2015 17:29

I don't bother. It would be off within ten minutes, so there's no point in that or doing my hair before I get there.

The trainers get a shock when I go in to book classes with my face on. Grin

TheSnufflet · 12/06/2015 17:48

YAB hilariously U. If you're doing a proper workout it would fall off anyway!

limitedperiodonly · 12/06/2015 17:59

Are you Jessica Ennis IRL TheSnufflet?

OP wants to go to the gym. If wearing make up makes her happier there what has it to do with you or her DH?

LashesandLipstick · 12/06/2015 18:01

TheSnufflet, surely that depends on fitness levels, goals, and the makeup in question?

limitedperiodonly · 12/06/2015 18:07

Serena Williams wears make up and sexy dresses. I hear she's also quite good at hitting a ball across a net.

That's not to say that women - whether top athletes or just women who want to be able to run for the bus - should be ridiculed whatever they look like.

XiCi · 12/06/2015 18:08

I think you'd have to be massively unfit to be a big, sweaty mess at the gym. I've been going to various gyms for years and don't recall seeing anyone sweating profusely. Glistening maybe but pouring with sweat? Really?

And make up doesn't slide off your face if you are wearing a decent brand and a primer. It's not as if the OP is getting glammed up to the nines, she's only wearing a bit of concealer and blush, some really unnecessary comments on here

The make up you wear to the gym seems really light and entirely appropriate OP.

Bellebella · 12/06/2015 18:09

I can't see the point personally but then I only put make up on if my mother is coming round or If I am off out for the night.

TealFanClub · 12/06/2015 18:20

i dont think you work out hard enough if oyu don't sweat.
At our spin class even the TURBO women are Dripping al over their body

Lavenderice · 12/06/2015 18:44

Really Teal you say that the word shaming is OTT and then you accuse people of not working out hard enough if their make up is still on?!!
