To wear makeup to the gym?

Dp says it's pointless and too much.

I wear under eye concealer, light foundation, and colour my cheeks so that I don't look half dead!

Gosh OP is getting a hard time. I see it as going out of the house, you make yourself presentable to the world. So for me that means lots of moisturiser and a bit of blush as a minimum. So that's what i would wear to the gym. If that means full makeup for others that's fine.

BitOfFun · 12/06/2015 02:27

I understand wearing some makeup, but blusher is the last thing you need, surely?

FeijoaSundae · 12/06/2015 02:49

Not everyone ends up a sweaty mess.

I only go to the gym to do weights. My face doesn't break a sweat. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yes, if I'm outside running, I may get a slightly glistened brow, but that would be it.

I go to the gym in my lunch hour, and by the time I head back to the changing room, my body is like jelly from the work out, but my face is more of less the same as when I came in.

YANBU.

Agree with your DP. YABU.

Personally I never wear make up in the gym. I am also a weight lifter and sweat buckets. Most weight lifters do sweat.

If you want to wear make up, do it. It's up to you. I wouldn't mainly because it's better for your skin if you don't. But the choice is yours.

TealFanClub · 12/06/2015 06:49

It must be expensive.

NRomanoff · 12/06/2015 06:50

Oh and my gym is about 70% male and I don't see women wearing make up at ours. So I don't think women only gyms would make a difference.

TealFanClub · 12/06/2015 06:50

I love to sweat. I love to wipe my fave. I don't mind if I look griim. I'm not apologising for my face as WELL!!
in the e evening I might have remains of make up on.

Pyjamaramadrama · 12/06/2015 10:04

What a load of nasty catty comments, some people clearly think that they're superior.

Op imo you can do whatever makes you comfortable. I'm happier with a bit of foundation on as my skin is blotchy. I'd like to just not give a shit but I do.

I also don't sweat much when exercising because I don't sweat much anyway and I don't work that hard, again though, up to me.

BareFacedKitty · 12/06/2015 10:39

I wear a full face of make up to the gym. I also ran a marathon with a full face of make up which looked entirely presentable afterwards. I sweat buckets and it doesn't shift. Do whatever you please OP!

Nolim · 12/06/2015 10:43

Fabulassie · 12/06/2015 10:46

I'm not a massive sweater, unless the room is very warm. I can get my heart rate well up without sweating off my makeup.

FindoGask · 12/06/2015 10:47

I sweat a lot when I work out, especially from my face and head (sexeh!) so I couldn't wear make-up. But you should do whatever makes you feel comfortable, gyms can make you self-conscious at the best of times.

Lavenderice · 12/06/2015 10:48

I am utterly sick of this make-shaming fad there seems to be at the moment. Yes some women like to wear make-up whether it be do the gym or to the corner shop. So what? Why do other women have to be so sneery?

molyholy · 12/06/2015 10:57

If I go the gym and I already have make up on, I don't wash it off. If I go first thing, I don't have any on.

TriJo · 12/06/2015 11:01

I don't wear make-up all the time, but I would generally take it off before going to the gym as I'm a very heavy sweater and it would all run horribly.

It's absolutely disgusting to get into the pool with it on though.

CookieDoughKid · 12/06/2015 11:10

I think women check out other women more then men do. I do! I think, oooh she's got a nice gym outfit on/"she looks fab"...I wanna be a bit like her!

I think I wear makeup to feel a bit more presentable in public and therefore, I take myself more seriously in the gym and try harder!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/06/2015 11:14

I work hard at the gym, I don't sweat a lot. I only did in the beginning. If I do high weights I can get a bit read in the face but have no streams of sweat coming down my eyes. I sweat in the groins though and in the lower back.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/06/2015 11:16

High weights? Hmm Heavy weights!

BearPear · 12/06/2015 11:23

I pour with sweat at the gym, makeup would be ridiculous, surely it just slides off? What point blusher when your face is scarlet from exertion? I can't comprehend how makeup actually works in gym conditions and what the purpose is?

Lavenderice · 12/06/2015 11:27

It doesn't actually have to have a purpose though BearPear

angeltreats · 12/06/2015 11:32

I would if I thought it'd stay in but I like spin class and sweat buckets. I have rosacea and rarely leave the house without makeup as I feel very self-conscious. I do wear waterproof mascara though.

carabos · 12/06/2015 11:33

I get that you might arrive at the gym from work or wherever wearing your normal make up if you use it, I do that myself. What I don't understand is the women I see sitting in their cars outside or in the changing room applying the full face before they go in. Nothing on this thread has explained that.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 12/06/2015 11:34

I can understand people going to the gym straight from work, and not bothering to take off their make up. I can understand people going to the gym and maybe putting a tiny bit of concealer on any spots (not that it will last long!), but foundation? And BLUSHER??

I guess if you consider a gym a place to go to "look good" then why not, but to be honest, if you "look good" whilst at the gym then it's a waste of time and money you being there, from a health/fitness perspective.

mumeeee · 12/06/2015 11:35

Sorry I agree with you DH. It's pointless to wear make up to the gym. There again I rarely wear make up during the day.
