To hate the good weather

Garden noise. It goes right through me. Cackling neighbour and her chain smoking, the never ending squeak of trampoline springs from dawn to dusk, crap music being piped out from somewhere in competition with another type of crap music from a different direction, the grotty smell of bbqs.

I'm a grump. I'm an antisocial grump.

I think I need to move

" Music blasting til early hours, drunken idiots screaming and shouting down the street, struggling to sleep, shit summer clothing, school holidays etc."

That sounds awful. Except for the summer clothing. What is your problem with summer clothing? There is something for everyone in all styles, shapes and sizes.

Some of you have some pretty selfish neighbours. Fortunately ours are lovely (and quiet)

BrockAuLit · 07/06/2015 22:54

Well, when you don't live in the UK anymore, any British weather is wonderful. The thing you lot don't realise is that you have SEASONS, and your weather is TEMPERATE. It never gets really really hot or really really cold, and whatever you do have, it never stays that way for long.

I would switch my "30C+ everyday" 6 month long summer, and "-15C everyday" 6 month long winter for yours anytime.

Shesparkles · 07/06/2015 23:03

YABU waves to all her east Coast of Scotland neighbours

I positively thrive in the summer. I suffer from depression and SAD, and if once the weather gets better its like I've had a personality transplant. Nothing I like better than to leave the curtains open at night and be wakened naturally by the sunshine. Washing on the line across the garden gladdens the heart of my inner 1950s housewife, there's nothing better than the feeling of the sun on your back, and when you have a run of good weather, everyone seems to be happier and less grumpy.

I'm convinced I was born on the wrong continent, never mind the wrong country!

firefly78 · 07/06/2015 23:14

Shesparkles. it gets light here at 4am. do you really like naturally waking up that early!!! Shock

iamadaftcoo · 07/06/2015 23:16

YANBU. I hate summer and always get told I am a weirdo. I like snow and big coats. Winters in London are crap though - always about 12 degrees and drizzly. Not cold enough!

Shesparkles · 07/06/2015 23:19

It doesn't really get properly dark here in the summer! I think because of the SAD I feel like I physically crave daylight...I don't waken at 4am, but when I do waken-I seem to have a natural wakening time of about 6:45am-I'm wide awake when I open my eyes, rather than really groggy. I got a daylight alarm clock last winter amd the difference it made was phenomenal, literally life changing

DrCoconut · 08/06/2015 00:07

I'm still waiting for proper hot weather to start. So far it has been a mix of cold and rain with not so cold like today. A couple of months of 25+ would be wonderful and invigorating after the months of lukewarm drizzle that we get.

MrsTedCrilly · 08/06/2015 00:41

I'll be brutally honest... I love summer when I'm slim, hate it when I'm fat.. But I always love winter! Wink

MrsTedCrilly · 08/06/2015 00:47

Also I now appreciate summer here with its rainy intervals, I lived in the Middle East which was 5 months of 30-40c constantly.. Lovely at first but it gets old quick.

ShadowsCollideCantLogInToMN · 08/06/2015 01:47

OP, you are so not being unreasonable. I hate, hate, hate the 'good' weather, which to me is hideous. I love rain, snow, and gale force winds. I seriously dislike being all hot and miserable, with horribly bright sunshine glaring in my eyes. I dislike sandals and shorts and other summer clothes. I love boots and jumpers and winter coats. I love cloudy skies and pouring rain and lovely fresh cold air on my face. Throwing on my wellies and raincoat and walking the dog on the beach when the weather is all rough, rainy and windy and the sea is wild is my idea of heaven.

Bunbaker 'this will make me unpopular - lose weight if you are overweight.' I'm far from overweight, but I still loathe the heat. Anything over around 10 degrees is too hot for me. DP and I often joke that I ought to move to Antarctica.

Bunbaker · 08/06/2015 06:39

If you feel to warm in anything over 10 degrees could there be a medical reason behind that? And why don't you wear sunglasses when it is sunny?

Strawberryshakes · 08/06/2015 08:28

Unfortunately the sun seems to bring out the worst in people down my street! I just prefer winter clothes, jumpers and boots really.

The people opposite me practically have a playground in their garden, so its usually heaving with children and it gets very noisy. I am awfully tempted to move to scotland after reading this thread Grin

Bunbaker · 08/06/2015 08:34

Still waiting for the warm weather here Sad

To hate the good weather
Sallystyle · 08/06/2015 08:39

Highs of 15 here today.

Bring on the weather! we have had a couple of pleasant days but I want a bloody summer. I love summer, I am so much happier in summer.

Sallystyle · 08/06/2015 08:40

Oh wait! highs of 19 according to BBC weather now!

Lovely :)

Tinklewinkle · 08/06/2015 08:44

YABU!

The sun is out, it's nice and warm, all is right with the world Grin

Actually, it's not that hot here. I might take a bit of a risk and leave my coat at home when I take the dog out, but I'm not removing the cardi yet

I'm always freezing, it's never too hot as far as I'm concerned so bring on the sun.

We only ever get nice weather for about 2 weeks a year anyway

iamEarthymama · 08/06/2015 09:02

I thrive on 'Proper'summer weather; warm enough to not need a cardigan, but not so hot you are driven indoors.
Here in South Wales it is beautifully sunny this morning but the wind is bitter cold.
I feel a huge disconnect from the natural world on this thread, a need to control one's environment, not react to it.
Since taking up gardening I feel closer to the seasons, more responsive to the weather.
There have been huge changes to our weather here over the last few decades, wetter for sure, windier too, I think.
I have hay fever and asthma, and do empathise with those who suffer.
I can imagine that bring in London, surrounded by buildings trapping the heat, inconsiderate people etc etc must be a nightmare.
But sitting on my allotment as the sun goes down, eating a salad I have grown, with a glass of cider in hand. I love Summer!
Hope I don't sound smug. WinkSmile

Bunbaker · 08/06/2015 09:04

I agree with your sentiments iamEarthymama. I love being able to go out without having to worry about coats and jumpers.

passmethewineplease · 08/06/2015 09:29

I prefer winter. If you're cold you can layer up of you're too hot you can't do much about it when out and about.

I have terrible hay fever which nothing bloody touches. Maybe if it wasn't for that I'd enjoy the weather.

I hate suncrean too it's so greasy and sticky. I hate getting all sweaty too.

Yep give me winter any day.

Friday99 · 08/06/2015 09:30

I don't have neighbours and the sunny weather makes looking after our horses much easier. However I need it to rain once a week to fill up our water bowser :-)

keeptothewhiteline · 08/06/2015 09:39

OP it's not the weather that is the problem- it's the place you live.

I live in a very quiet area, occassional hum of a lawnmower but that's it.

Strawberryshakes · 08/06/2015 11:13

Unfortunately we can't all just move to a quiet area (oh I wish I could) so as soon as the sun comes out its a living buddy nightmare.

morelikeguidelines · 08/06/2015 11:16

I love the summer and everything about it. Except flies. Their presence ruins the whole thing imo.

iamEarthymama · 08/06/2015 18:02

I forgot to mention the reason I am sitting out on the allotment is that next door is the playground of choice for all children with bells on their teeth!
Talk about piercing voices!
How do people stand it? I used to bollock my kids for screeching and grandkids know they can talk, shout but not screech and shriek!
So I do agree re noise pollution

Dontstepinthecowpat · 08/06/2015 18:16

Another one in Scotland fed up of jumper/jacket weather. Still wearing my winter boots. DC desperately need new clothes but I'm trying to eek out the last of their winter clothes in the hope they will be in their fresh, bright summer gear soon Hmm
