To hate the good weather

ChuffinAda · 06/06/2015 11:43

Garden noise. It goes right through me. Cackling neighbour and her chain smoking, the never ending squeak of trampoline springs from dawn to dusk, crap music being piped out from somewhere in competition with another type of crap music from a different direction, the grotty smell of bbqs.

I'm a grump. I'm an antisocial grump.

I think I need to move

We hit the dizzy heights of 20 degrees yesterday.

Roussette · 07/06/2015 08:29

I would have my sympathies if we had weeks or months of good weather at a stretch as Dalatron says. I don't post online having a moan after months of rubbish wet, windy and cold weather which we get without fail. The good weather is more unpredictable and we never know if we're really going to get much or not.

Have some sympathy with those who desperately need good weather to feel topped up with Vitamin D, who crave sunshine and who suffer awfully with the cold during so much of the year. That's me! Smile

I echo what Bunbaker says. I actually feel quite depressed in the winter, I mourn the end of summer, and I probably suffer from SAD. I feel like a different person in the summer, bags of energy, I need less sleep, my skin is better, I feel alive and I blossom. I hate winter clothes, coats and boots and covering up, and just want the vibrant colours with my summer clothes and lovely floaty dresses, I love strappy sandals and bare legs. It seems so short though that I can indulge myself wearing the clothes I love.

I appreciate it's tricky keeping children safe from the sun but how can an adult get severe sunstroke if they took precautions? There's enough out there to cover up - every factor of suncream imaginable, lovely sun hats etc. ONe of my DCs loves the summer but does burn easily and is a fairer skin than the rest of the family. She knows to slap it on in the summer because when outdoors at any sort of festival or whatever, one bit of skin missed gets a bit burnt. She's learnt and it hasn't happened for a few years.

Bring on the summer I say! Grin

hazeyjane · 07/06/2015 19:51

I don't moan in real life, and always make all the right noises - 'oh yes, isn't it lovely to see the sun, blah blah', so when I see a moan about hot weather thread on here, I will definitely indulge myself!

It doesn't matter how long a hot spell goes on for, the way it makes me feel is pretty instantaneous. Sluggish, tired and dizzy and like I am wrapped up in an itchy wooly blanket - grim.

I really do take precautions against sunstroke, but some people are more susceptible - I am one of those people!

ReadtheSmallPrint · 07/06/2015 20:03

I crave warm weather. I love warm/hot British days despite all the disadvantages. There are only really two things I hate:

  1. Wasps (not seen any this year) 2.) The fact that the, optimistically, 60 annual warm days are so unpredictably and randomly spread throughout the months of April to October. Hence you need to pack for a British holiday assuming that the teamperature will be anywhere from 6 to 32 celsius.

Bloody annoying.

Happfeet2911 · 07/06/2015 20:10

It's only just topped 21 degrees in the south east, I can't believe any body has had trouble sleeping at night. We only get a few weeks of warm weather, very occasionally something that could loosely be called 'hot' by English standards, let us enjoy it!

Strawberryshakes · 07/06/2015 20:18

Yanbu, hate summer. Fire on, hot chocolate and wrapped up in a duvet for me! I don't mind other people enjoying it though obviously. People are entitled to moan about hot weather just as much as the people who complain about the cold Grin (which is pretty much everyone I know).

Bunbaker · 07/06/2015 20:21

Why, if you hate summer, and presumably hot weather, do you need the fire on and a duvet in winter? Clearly you don't like being cold.

MrsMook · 07/06/2015 20:31

What summer weather? The sun is out and has a nice glow but it is struggling to compensate for the strong chilly breeze. We've not had t-shirt weather yet this year. I wouldn't spend an evening in the garden without thermals and a hat yet!

code · 07/06/2015 20:40

It's quite nice at the minute (South East) with a breeze and fresh feel to the warmth. There was a hideous day earlier in the week where it turned humid and wet. IMO it's the humidity that's unbearable and it usually arrives when temps go >25c. At that point and usually when dying and unable to breathe on the tube or attempting to walk the concrete hell that is London I long to move somewhere really cold for the summer. I don't think people get the hate unless they experience London in the heat. Plus I hate 'floaty summer dresses' the expression makes me want to barf and I don't think I've ever seen anyone look good in one.

Bunbaker · 07/06/2015 20:44

I would be interested to know where those of you who hate summer live. Most of us who don't hate summer don't live in London or the south east.

We haven't had any horrible humid weather in Yorkshire yet. I tried to sit outside today, but the wind was too cold.

code · 07/06/2015 20:46

Plus this 'thing' flew up behind me today, ''twas the biggest insect I ever saw. Like a winged demon, black and red. The thing had a face. The bloody cats were chasing it I was terrified they were going to catch the darned thing.

FatAli · 07/06/2015 20:48

No! I love the warm weather!

All of yesterday in a pub garden, about 30 of us inc kids. It was so lovely.

Today, we had breakfast in the garden and then a barbecue in the late afternoon. We still have Mayflies, and all our blue tit babies have fledged and the garden is full of their chirping.

I have one sunburnt arm for my outdoorsiness, but apart from that, we have a happy, summer vibe that makes me want to live somewhere that every day in summer is like this!

We have lovely neighbours and live in a naice village. The most anti-social thing anyone does is a bit of strimming at the weekend!

ChocolateBreakfastBalls · 07/06/2015 20:55

YANBU, summer is fucking shite for all these reasons and more. I decided today that I need to move to that place above the arctic circle where it's just permanent night and ice. Yes.

firefly78 · 07/06/2015 21:12

finally i have found my people!! roll on winter when i wont be sneezing with itchy eyes, nose and throat.

MyIronLung · 07/06/2015 21:12

OP are you my neighbour?
I smoke, DS has a trampoline and we have the occasional BBQ Grin the difference is my young (ish), professional and childless neighbours only have to put up with this for 3 months maximum a year. On the other hand I get to listen to horrendous arguments and loud parties with friends all year round Hmm it's very rare that there's any noise coming from my house past 9pm! I think they win! Grin

I'm in the east and the weathers been glorious recently. I'm throughly enjoying it at the moment but by the end of next month I'll be craving colder weather, being able to wear jumpers and getting cosy.

Addictedtocustardcreams · 07/06/2015 21:20

This thread is making me laugh as I am reminded of a row I had with my DH. In winter he always says he can't cope with cold. In summer he moans it's too hot. One time I called him out on this and he shouted at me really crossly "I just like it tepid, ok!"

Delatron · 07/06/2015 21:34

Yes but it's not hot! It is still pretty cold for June. I have just been out to clear the garden and it was freezing. So you still have your rubbish tepid weather. Nobody in the whole country can sit outside in the evening. Come back and moan when it hits 30 degrees (unlikey).

code · 07/06/2015 21:38

Next we'll be 'treated' to the maxi dresses, acres and acres of cheap floral nylon. Navigating the school run resplendent, like ships in full sail. Or worse those boob tube things which look like an interrupted under a towel change on the beach. Sunburnt shoulders and dolphin back tat. Can't wait.

Soduthen116 · 07/06/2015 21:43

Ffs you moany buggers.Grin

It's crap all bloody year and now it's at last hot. Roll on. Hope it lasts till October.

Mind you have sympathy with the noisy trampolines.

firefly78 · 07/06/2015 21:49

just read the whole thread. those of you telling us to love the heat i will come back and patronise you in the winter. try being allergic to summer. its miserable.

Delatron · 07/06/2015 21:59

You don't need to love the heat, there is none. God help you all when it hits 25 degrees plus if you are moaning when it is about 19 degrees. I hate winter, the cold and the rain. Which is the default weather of this country.
I still don't need to start a thread about it though.

Again, it is really not even that warm at the moment.

Strawberryshakes · 07/06/2015 22:14

bunbaker I dont like summer for numerous reasons, the temperature only being a small one. I dont like being too hot but that doesnt mean I have to enioy being cold either.

I find it much easier to warm up in winter than cool down in summer. I like being cosy with the fire which I can turn off when needed rather than uncomfortable in the heat outside. I like peace and quiet, I like the quiet streets in winter and I love dark nights.

I'm in Lincolnshire so thankfully we dont usually get too much heat. I really dont understand why people are allowed to complain about winter but nobody's allowed to dislike summer Grin

I enjoy winter but don't moan at the people who complain about it.

Bunbaker · 07/06/2015 22:18

I love summer. All we need now is some warmth because it isn't happening here.

BettyCatKitten · 07/06/2015 22:26

Yanbu. I work nights, trying to sleep in the summer in the day is nigh on impossible. On the other hand, going to bed in the day in winter is heaven Smile

Strawberryshakes · 07/06/2015 22:26

It's been warm today here but I wouldnt class it as hot. It's not particularly the heat that bothers me, its the things that come with it. Music blasting til early hours, drunken idiots screaming and shouting down the street, struggling to sleep, shit summer clothing, school holidays etc.
