To hate the good weather

Garden noise. It goes right through me. Cackling neighbour and her chain smoking, the never ending squeak of trampoline springs from dawn to dusk, crap music being piped out from somewhere in competition with another type of crap music from a different direction, the grotty smell of bbqs.

I'm a grump. I'm an antisocial grump.

I think I need to move

Supermarkets empty after topless men ransack the BBQ and booze aisles

Was there ever a bigger horror than balding (they are nearly always balding) topless men wandering round the high streets and supermakets of the British towns as soon as the sun comes out?
dread to think what visitors make of them

Ledkr · 06/06/2015 16:28

Where the fuck are you? It freezing here, I've had to resort to softplay Sad

Roussette · 06/06/2015 16:32

All you 'coldies' have at least 9 months of the year with yur beloved crap weather. Let us who crave heat have our 2-3 months PLEASE. I just love it. I need it. I have no idea what your on about Grin

LoadsaBlusher · 06/06/2015 16:35

Scotland here too.
Windy , rainy , heating on, kids going stir crazy.
Local park is a wet mud bath.
Local fair , loads of stuff cancelled due to the bad weather.
Had to get my winter boots and black socks out today.
Really really really wish the weather was nicer Sad

PintOfJohnSmiths · 06/06/2015 17:13

Heat? Its blowing a fucking gale here, ive even brought the duvet downstairs coz im cold!

Musicaltheatremum · 06/06/2015 17:17

I've just come back from walking a 6 mile hike on the west highland way. Up a hill with horizontal rain and hail that was freezing. Feel good though.

SoldierBear · 06/06/2015 17:30

I had a pair of flamingo willow trees in the garden. Went out this afternoon between rain showers and found the winds have decapitated one of them.
Longing for some sunshine - I've bought a couple of summer frocks and I'd love to be able to wear them.

Igneococcus · 06/06/2015 17:32

West coast Scotland, it was 7C around lunchtime according to the thermometer in my car, it's been raining non stop and high winds. There was some event with stalls in town, they were all busy hanging on to the tarpaulin.
I happily swap it for some garden noise.

Hopefully not with kids on it Euphemia ? My children love those slides when they come to the Highland shows.

siblingrevelryagain · 06/06/2015 17:42

Reasons to hate summer:

Wasps etc
Suncream
Hot nights
Light nights/light mornings
Rubbish clothes

Reasons to love autumn/winter:

Lack of all the above.

In winter the house is dark and cosy and the kids go to sleep earlier and get up later. And it's okay to stay in and be a bit lazy, whereas in summer there's pressure to 'get jobs done' whilst the weather's good!

And my arms are built for cardigans and my legs for boots and tights!

I have a thermal vest on under a jumper today. My house is a good 10 degrees cooler than outside when the heastin's off and I'm in the rooms with no sun.
I'd go outside to warm up but the wind would get right on my tits.

awaynboilyurheid · 06/06/2015 17:52

OP you do need to move , today in Glasgow I got soaked going from the car to the supermarket I was parked in the space right outside ! The wind was so bad my hood of my WINTER coat blew down and so my hair was soaked too ! heating is now on no wonder our heating bills are high here!

MishMooshAndMogwai · 06/06/2015 18:01

I'm 8 months pregnant. I have no intention of being grateful for this weather!

I wake up sweating every night and can't cool down in last years lovely flowy maxi dresses because of bloody thigh chaffing so maxi dresses need leggings underneath which is just adding a layer to my normal clothes! Bah!

I love the summer and the sun and outside and garden play etc etc and come the day I finally get this child out of me I will be out basking with my pimms on the patio but until then I will sit here, in my loosest pj bottoms and too small vest and sulk!

Titsalinabumsquash · 06/06/2015 18:02

It's lovely here on the south coast, it's clear blue skies and some sun but there is a glorious breeze, if that stops then I shall join in the summer hating, I get burnt in minutes and thanks to the oh so helpful person up thread for telling us stupid people how to avoid overheating in the sun because without you Einstein we would never have thought to crack a window and drink more! Wink

I'm the one that when people are praying for heat waves I'm praying for snow Grin

WeAllHaveWings · 06/06/2015 18:12

East Ayrshire, Scotland is currently 9 degrees, dull, wet and windy. I've just dried off and I am now sitting next to the radiator (heating has been on all day) trying to warm up after walking the dog (in wellies as field is wet and muddy).

Kids cant get out to play because it too cold/wet, never anything decent on at the cinema during the "summer", so they are a bit bored.

YABVU to hate the weather, but NBU to hate your neighbours behaviour. (i'd still rather have it dry and warmer!)

Bunbaker · 06/06/2015 18:58

"Rubbish clothes"

Utter nonsense. There are summer, autumn, winter and spring clothes to suit every shape and size.

Summer clothes don't have to be skimpy and revealing.

There are always some people who like to suck the joy out of the little bit of fine weather we have.

hazeyjane · 06/06/2015 19:10

different strokes for different folks.

I am not a big fan of hot weather (although it isn't that hot here today, just pleasant)

trying to get suncream on ds is a bloody nightmare.
hayfever (which everyone in the family gets)
dd2's asthma gets worse
ds overheats (struggles to maintain regular temperature)
sunstroke

I don't know if it is due to having really low blood pressure, but i always feel totally out of it when it gets hot, have no energy and just struggle.

But i fully appreciate that others hate the winter and struggle then.

Bunbaker · 06/06/2015 19:26

I think if you did a straw poll more people would rate summer over winter

a) Lower heating bills
b) Lower electricity bills
c) No dampness in accommodation
d) Can dry washing outdoors
e) Increased ability to absorb vitamin D

I appreciate that conditions like asthma and hayfever are horrible, and getting sunscreen on children can be a pain though. Sunstroke is avoidable, especially in the UK.

I love summer because I absolutely loathe and detest being cold. I hate the long, cold, dark winter nights as they make me feel very low. We get very few cold, crisp, clear days in winter where we live as it is mostly cloudy and damp. I love being able to wear summer dresses and dispense with tights and socks.

What I don't get is why people who burn easily don't wear long sleeves, trousers and hats. There are lots of light floaty shirts and tops with sleeves around.

I don't have small children so the light evenings aren't an issue, and the light mornings don't seem to affect DD. Also, we live in a quiet neighbourhood with considerate neighbours so we don't have a problem with barbecues or noise in the evenings.

hazeyjane · 06/06/2015 19:42

I think my family and I just aren't designed for the Summer!

I get sunstroke really easily, always wear a hat and sunscreen.

Dh works outdoors, and looks like the invisible man when he leaves the house - hat sunglasses, sun protection ls tshirt (under regulation work tshirt).

Bunbaker · 06/06/2015 19:45

Oh, and where we live we very very rarely get temperatures exceeding 25 degrees, and rarely have nights when it is too hot to sleep, so that is why I love summer so much.

I work in an air conditioned office which gets too cold in summer, and both of our cars have air conditioning so we don't really get too many opportunities to overheat.

val4 · 06/06/2015 20:38

Freezing here too in Ireland. Still in winter clothes, heat on and stove lighting every night! It's crazy for this time of year . Bring on the sun.

redbinneo · 06/06/2015 21:14

"What I don't get is why people who burn easily don't wear long sleeves, trousers and hats."

Why didn't I think of that, then I too could loaf around internet forums being smug and extremely patronising.

Delatron · 06/06/2015 22:52

It's been nice (24 degrees) for ONE day in the south east. That is it. It is June. Seriously, all you cold weather, rain lovers get your weather for about 80% of the year. Please don't moan about a little bit of warm weather. That cold wind is back today anyway you'll be pleased to see.
I hate being indoors, I hate the rain. So lovely to sit outside on a summer's evening, who cares about a bit of noise?! I have sat In my garden once this year.

So yes, YABU. If we had a run of a few weeks of hot temperatures I may be a bit more understanding. It was warm for one day!
