if you can't afford the children you have you shouldn't have more?

was speaking to a couple I know today, both out of work and living on benifits. They have 3 children and they are very vocal about how awful it is that they barely get enough money to survive. It turn out that she is now pregnant with their 4th child! This was planned and they are delighted?! They use food banks and thir children have every gadget and toy known to man!

When I asked how on earth they will manage with another child she blatantly said the money they recieve will go up and that it is her right to have as many children as she likes?!!

I have 2DC, I would love a 3rd but we would struggle finNcislly so have made the decision not to. I believe benifits should be capped at 2 children, she obviously doesn't agree! If she can't afford to pay for the children she has why should I go without yet pay for hers through my taxes? AIBU?

Good call Fanjo

I can't get my head round the thought processes of those who seriously think people being paid in vouchers is a good idea.

clippityclop · 04/06/2015 21:39

I agree with OP, but each to their own (running away...)

BishopBrennansArse · 04/06/2015 21:40

Oh look. Another pigshit thick goady thread about benefits.
How refreshing!

BMW6 · 04/06/2015 21:43

*But then you wouldn't have been born,BMW6

And what a shame that would be...*

I cannot judge whether or not it would be a shame if I were not born, but I can certainly wish I was not born into such poverty and all the crap that goes with it.

Lady1nred · 04/06/2015 21:45

Bishop ... calling someone's opinion pigshit thick isn't goady??

Haha clippity clop can I hop on and come with ya Wink

I haven't read the thread although I can imagine how it's gone.

Of course there are families like this but by suggesting we cap/stop the support we are condemning those children to be forever stuck in a similar spiral of poverty and low aspirations. By making sure those children are fed and clothed and in a home with access to a GP and a school we are stacking the odds in favour of as many of them as possible escaping a lifetime of poverty and low aspirations themselves.

GingerCuddleMonster · 04/06/2015 21:46

I've never understood it personally, and would never put myself in that situation, but each to their own I suppose.

Changes are coming though, perhaps it will "putt off" the small minority who do this.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/06/2015 21:47

Thanks for the goat explanations!

Goats are great creatures because you can both milk them and eat them and they do well on much smaller and more scrubby land than cows so are ideal for people on benefits who may have more limited access to quality grazing Smile

I had both my DC in thoroughly feckless circumstances. They are both now tax payers who are helping to support you in countless ways. We've all been children who have benefited from the tax system in some way or another.

Threads like this that draw attention to a 'bad' family are just as shitty in spirit as the C5 documentaries you say you don't like, OP. However pissed off you are at this particular family you have singled out for judgment if they exist, this is wrong: I believe benifits should be capped at 2 children.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/06/2015 21:48

I called the post pigshit thick and goady, not the poster.
So challenging the topic, not making a personal attack.
Hth.

AnyoneForTennis · 04/06/2015 21:49

BMW6 interesting to hear from another viewpoint...sorry you were so miserable growing up in that situation

Lady1nred · 04/06/2015 21:53

Don't know what Hth means? Sorry bishop, it's been a long night in here, I pretty much assume now everything is a personal attack Sad

usualsuspect333 · 04/06/2015 21:53

But the OPs friends children are not growing up in povety. what with all the gadgets and toys the HARDWORKING TAXPAYER is paying for.

BMW6 · 04/06/2015 21:54

Thanks AnyoneFor Tennis - I was beginning to think I was invisible........

TTWK · 04/06/2015 21:55

It's a little know fact that goats mate for life. They stay together for the sake of the kids.

BMW6 · 04/06/2015 21:56

HTH - hope this helps

Fizziebizzie1 · 04/06/2015 21:57

Well I will get shot down in flames for this but I'm with the OP. Pishes me right off that I get up at 6am to go to work to pay tax which gets spent on benefits for people who don't contribute to society but think they have some God given right to breed - if you can't support yourself you definitely can't support children.

usualsuspect333 · 04/06/2015 22:00

Here comes the taxpayer.

Lady1nred · 04/06/2015 22:02

I was pissed off plenty, but back in the real world I would have been over hours ago, probably ranted to the other half about it and got on with things. just because I don't agree with what she is doing in relation to this, she is still my friend and that doesn't change! I'm not being two faced it's an anonymous forum, it could be anyone! Not sure why people don't seem to believe it, I find that really weird. What is so unbelievable about it??

The main thing I learned tonight is that normal grown up discussion on thi subject is not ever going to happen here ... Note to self!

AnyoneForTennis · 04/06/2015 22:02

fizz it's ok, it's changing. Bit by bit it's getting tougher. But tax will still be paid, there's no escaping that

BMW6 · 04/06/2015 22:02

I will look at this thread tomorrow and see if anyone else responds to my personal experiences .............

Lady1nred · 04/06/2015 22:04

Thanks BMW, and I'm glad things worked out for you though Smile very interesting to hear from the other side

Lady1nred · 04/06/2015 22:05

I've only just noticed it BMW. How many siblings do you have?

ChilliAndMint · 04/06/2015 22:11

You will get slaughtered OP, but believe me I know this happens a lot, I live on a rough estate. It is real people, it isn't something you just hear about in the media.
Okay, I'm going to get slaughtered too, do I care..I'm safely encsconced behind my pc in a house that I own ,am on minimum wage, and yes..this kind of thing really gets my goat.

AldiQ7 · 04/06/2015 22:12

The 'benefits goat' thing is just so tedious - definitely not one of MNs better in-jokes.

crustsaway · 04/06/2015 22:13

I can only speak for myself and I had one, I'd have liked more but knew I couldnt afford to.
