To think I can write a 2000 word assignment before Monday?

Me and the dc have been plagued with illness, and now I have 4 days to get this done.

Don't know much about the subject area so will involve a fair bit of reading.

Please tell me your stories of how you started an 8000 word assignment the night before and got a first, or suchlike.

Although, to be fair, a 40% pass would be fine. First year of my degree so it's not the end of the world.

I may be procrastinating by writing this thread.

Also putting off starting a 3000 word reflection but not due in until july1st!

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 04/06/2015 17:49

Just checking in....I've done my research for the first section and written 317 words, with 5 references. Going to try and get this bit nailed before I go to bed tonight then I'm half way there.

I might have had a 2 hour power nap this afternoon, my brain wasn't really working this morning.

Of course you can! 2000 words is nothing!

lavendersun · 04/06/2015 18:04

Well done Littlefluffy - only about 200 words for me but I have a much better sense of where I am going.

I hate the referencing.

Sad how I used to aim for top marks but with life these days scraping a pass is fine.

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 04/06/2015 19:29

Well done lavender, we can do this!

lavendersun · 05/06/2015 14:06

How is it going Littlefluffy - not that well here - reading, thinking, but no writing!

aintnothinbutagstring · 05/06/2015 14:29

Harvard referencing is an arse, i used to scrutinise the rules intensively and still got it wrong everytime!Thankfully chose psychology so use APA which is a doddle. You'll be fine, sociology is such a great and infinitely interesting subject.

sadwidow28 · 06/06/2015 21:48

Just checking in to see whether Littlefluffyclouds81 is on target for finalising the essay......

Do I need to get the cheerleaders out?

Keletubbie · 06/06/2015 21:53

I'm a writer by trade... I often bang out up to 5k words a day about things that I know nothing about.

Keep your eyes on the prize and log out of Mumsnet immediately.

NameChange30 · 08/06/2015 11:33

OP how did you get on?

sadwidow28 · 08/06/2015 18:01

It's Monday - what was the final outcome OP?

lavendersun · 09/06/2015 05:39

Yes, I wondered this too, how did you do Littlefluffy I got a proper extension?

Catsize · 09/06/2015 07:48

I hope to do 5,000 by Friday alongside FT job and childcare, so hope so!

PandaMummyofOne · 09/06/2015 07:55

This is an hour long task for my level 3's. So of course you can. What the topic?

PandaMummyofOne · 09/06/2015 07:57

I've just completed my first year of sociology and studied both subjects. PM me if you think I can help.

lavendersun · 09/06/2015 08:04

This is an hour long task for my level 3's

I would like to see them get through my reading list which is a foot tall in an hour.

Op made it clear that she had to do a fair bit of reading.

TravellingHopefully12 · 09/06/2015 11:02

Lavendersun, yeah, the research bit normally takes longer than the writing bit in my experience - finding the sources and quotes, then building an argument which is still balanced.

You can write 2000 words in a few hours but without the research it will be structureless (I'm sure that's a word but the computer's underlining it in red.)

Also - after the initial writing you need to go over it again, and preferably get a friend or dp to read through it for grammar stuff you might have missed and clarity, just to ensure it makes sense and stuff.

lavendersun · 09/06/2015 13:22

My research is taking forever Travelling, forever, hence the extension - picking out the bits I need from tens of 000's of pages is not quick. Plus internet research.

I know, perhaps that should be knew Wink nothing about the subject at all!

TravellingHopefully12 · 10/06/2015 16:07

Yeah, I know that all too well - there's so much information to plough through, and you're like - what is relevant, what isn't? how do I boil it down and make it into an essay?

OP - hope you got on OK too.
