Is it official? Do you have to have famous parents to be a model these days?

It used to be that models were actually models, plucked out of obscurity and quite often, poverty.

Now it's all celebrity offspring. The Jagger girls are simply not model material. Gigi Hadid might have been a successful catalog model were it not for the Real Housewives connection. Kendall Jenner. Haley Baldwin.

Not a real model in the whole lot. It's perverse.

Lily Cole is a relative of exDH, her parents were not famous or anything .

You must have some good stories to share....?

Didn't she go to Latymer?

Anais Gallagher is a presenter on a kids' tv programme on cbbc, along with some other kids. She does a good job of it and comes across as a bright girl.

Anewmeanewname · 01/06/2015 20:18

Anais Gallagher looks a bit like a teen-aged Chelsea Clinton to me...

OhEmGeee · 01/06/2015 20:23

Alexa Chung is another one who is so admired and I can't work out what for?

Hobbes8 · 01/06/2015 20:48

The thing is most people end up as adults living the sort of life that was normal to them when they were a child. So my dad was a teacher and I ended up working in the NHS. Lots of children of teenage parents have children young, for example.
Lots of children of abusive parents end up in abusive relationships. It takes a lot to break out of these sorts of cycles.

So if you're the child of celebrities growing up in extreme wealth, where everyone you know acts or sings or models, it almost certainly wouldn't occur to you to apply for a graduate management scheme at M&S, or the civil service fast stream, or whatever. You'd barely know those jobs existed.

I'm amazed by Chris de bourgh's daughter. How did that little troll of a man have such a stunning daughter?

The80sweregreat · 01/06/2015 21:46

Its the old saying, not what you know, but who. These children come from families with connections and money. Of course the fashion houses want them as a name is more important than someone who nobody has heard of. Its very sad, but the acting world is draged the same too.

expatinscotland · 01/06/2015 21:52

Alexa Chung is a clothes horse and was a model, not through celeb family, for years before she went supermodel. She made, and still does make, loads through ad campaigns. She is VERY tall and thin and that's how she got started.

'See also, Gordon Ramseys daughter having her own cookery show on CBBC.

That one winds me up something rotten. Fucking californian, big house, lifestyle cookery show for kids hmm'

I couldn't agree more, meglet. Refuse to watch it.

professornangnang · 01/06/2015 22:39

Rosanna Davison? She looks like a Barbie Doll up close. 3 inch make up.

holdyourown · 01/06/2015 22:42

I thought Alexa Chung was working in the USA now, on a TV show over there. Don't think she's the daughter of anyone famous?

lilacblossomtime · 01/06/2015 23:20

Chris de Burgh's daughter's looks come from her mum I guess, she was lucky.

Brooklyn Beckham seems to have been blessed with his daddys hair and his mummys pout. The kid looks stoned half the time.

Greythorne · 02/06/2015 01:45

Expatinscotland

Alexa is 5'8"

Not very tall for a model

Housewife2010 · 02/06/2015 06:13

Sadie Frost used to be a teen model. I remember her modelling a lot in Jackie when I read it. Kate Moss's sister is far too short to be a model. I reckon a lot of the 90s supermodels would still be successful today. Christie Turlington is a classic beauty who would work in any era and Cindy and Claudia are in the sexy pin-up Kate Upton mould (though I think Cindy was by far the best).

Feminine · 02/06/2015 09:17

Sadie frost was a stage school child.
Lots of child actors would have done 'modelling' like that. housewife
I agree with you on the other model examples you gave. :)

pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2015 09:25

Rod Stewart's model Daughter in the papers today ...

MonaLottie · 02/06/2015 10:03

I think Kate Moss is only 5'7" - she heralded the end of the "Amazonian" era of the tall, busty supermodels.
