Is it official? Do you have to have famous parents to be a model these days?

It used to be that models were actually models, plucked out of obscurity and quite often, poverty.

Now it's all celebrity offspring. The Jagger girls are simply not model material. Gigi Hadid might have been a successful catalog model were it not for the Real Housewives connection. Kendall Jenner. Haley Baldwin.

Not a real model in the whole lot. It's perverse.

AIBU?

See also, Gordon Ramseys daughter having her own cookery show on CBBC.

That one winds me up something rotten. Fucking californian, big house, lifestyle cookery show for kids Hmm.

wowfudge · 01/06/2015 13:51

Tali Lennox is a beautiful young woman imo.

SoupDragon · 01/06/2015 13:54

Pixie Geldof is a "model and singer". A model despite being only 5ft 6in

howtorebuild · 01/06/2015 14:05

I think Kendall Jenner is beautiful. If anything Kendall has different interests to her Sisters, she is not into fashion more so sport. I thought Kendall was pushed by Kim and Khris into modelling and now models to get away from family.

I feel bad for Brooklyn Beckham. I gather he doesn't have his Dad's pitch skills and despite access to a great education he is behaving as if his career option is going down the Peter Andre route.

I was always Hmm when he was little at Victoria speaking in Ok, giving him an inflated ego telling him photographers chased them because he is so beautiful. I guess now he realises that was a lie his ego took a knock along with his ability to trust anything his Mother says.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 14:05

Pixie Geldof, model. Uh-huh.

It's just another example of how little opportunity there is in
media and fashion outside of the elite. They only give opportunities to each other.

They all wear each others fashions, interview each other on each others programmes are featured in each others mags and listen to each other's music and the normal kids who are probably more talented are supposed to look upon and envy their lifestyles.

These kids get the best education money can buy and they waste it on becoming celeb models. They actually put me off of buying things.

I knew the Beckham kids would all end up being 'models'. I don't know how some of these people can call themselves models with a straight face Keith Richards daughters and Pixie Gekdoff being prime examples.

Sparklingbrook · 01/06/2015 14:14

meglet i agree about Gordon ramesy's daughter having her own show. I was really Hmm

I am not sure the Beckham kids. They have no hope of a 'normal' career so not sure what they will be able to actually do IYKWIM. Is Brooklyn enrolled in 6th Form come September?

Sparklingbrook · 01/06/2015 14:14

Ramsey's

lilacblossomtime · 01/06/2015 14:14

A famous name and money is always going to be an advantage but if someone is genuinely talented and beautiful there are a lot of chances these days. Look at YouTube stars like Zoella.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 14:18

I would be so unhappy if after spending so much money on my children's education, they decided to become models.

I disagree slightly about Gigi Hadid. Yes, she's very well connected and her mum was a model and is now a Real Housewife. But she does still have something about her in the way the supers traditionally did. Less so her sister, which is probably why Bella is happily becoming the DUIt girl around town.

angelos02 · 01/06/2015 14:24

YANBU. Kendall Jenner, while attractive, would not be where she is had she been born to a 'normal' family. She is not in the same league as the likes of Claudia Shiffer, Linda Evangelista etc.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 14:24

I agree Gigi is model-ish, but kind of like a Neutrogena model.

Rumer Willis.

Poor woman got a lot of abuse about her looks and doesn't call herself a model anymore, I don't think.

AnnoyedParent22 · 01/06/2015 14:28

Greythorne I came on this thread to specifically mention Daisy Lowe.

I mean, yes she's slim and attractive... but so are thousands of 20 odd year old girls you see out and about. Only the ordinary girls don't have access to celebrity hairdressers, Mum and Dad's celebrity friends interviewing, promoting and styling them, giving them stellar opportunities from practically birth that are denied to the common folk...

You see this nepotism a lot in the arts as well, witness the current batch of Eton educated actors.

The Evening Standard magazine is a rum piece...they are constantly promoting some photogenic 20 year old who is supposed to have suddenly made it big in the world of cupcake making, lingerie designing or jewellery making... or an up and coming actor/actress/model/DJ/whatever. Oh yes, you think, how interesting.... and then read on to discover they are the progeny of Lord and Lady Such and Such, or a Goldsmith/Delevigne/Rothschild, and they were bankrolled and promoted by parent's wealthy elite connections and yes, have apparently been recently 'discovered' by the 'unbiased' free media due to their own natural talent or skills.

Whatever.... Hmm

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 14:28

I guess if you call yourself a model a lot of people will feel entitled to comment upon your looks.

Was Rumer Willis ever a model?

HeyDuggee · 01/06/2015 14:29

Thing is, nobody would hire a Paulina Poryzkova type when Kate Moss type became the it girl, and if a a Linda Evangelista walked into agency now, she's probably be told it's not the look they're going for.

MetallicBeige · 01/06/2015 14:33

Is there an Ireland Baldwin too? Looks like her mum Kim Basinger, but, not. Iykwim?

MetallicBeige · 01/06/2015 14:35

Rumer Miller was a model, actress and singer. All three. If she was playing in my back garden I'd shut the curtains.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 14:36

Was Rumer Willis ever a model?

She was operating under the model/actress/singer/designer/stylist celebrity offspring umbrella.

I've seen Kate Moss' half sister and Johnny Depp's daughter are models and that Lily Collins started out as a model too.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 14:37

Oh, I had completely forgot about Johnny Depp's daughter. Yes, she's now famous as well.

I adored Linda Evangelista and Helena Christensen when I was a teen. I had a Helena Christensen haircut before chopping it all off a la Evangelista and desperately wanted to copy their style. I had Vogue and Elle pages all over my bedroom wall. It was the early 90's equivalent of Pinterest!

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 14:40

Ah, Helena. An epic beauty.
