To think blue eyes are both a blessing and a curse

Blessing: Nations and western worlds favourite eye colour. Grin

Curse: I forgot my sunglasses on a day out with dc and I could barely see in the sun. (Probably added about a million wrinkles around the eye Grin).

diamond honestly as the mum of a mixed race dd I do find that (myself included)people seem to think there is something VERY cute about them as young children and they grow into very attractive older kids too

It's interesting, my friend has a dd who is mixed race Japanese, White British, Nigerian and Spanish. About as diverse as it gets. She is genuinely the cutest toddler I've EVER seen, don't know if it's coincidental. I believe the whole world eventually will become mixed race to an extent, obviously we already are but National Geographic did a feature called 'the face of the future' about how 'the average American' will look in the future but I suppose it could apply to the rest of the Western world at least

Bunfight notwithstanding, this is a very interesting and thought-provoking thread.

+I am baffled at your assertion that blue eyes are 'the western worlds favourite eye colour' to be honest

says who?

mamio

A couple of years ago I think the bbc did a face and dna thing across Britain. going through British history , and also projected images of future faces depending on what area you live in,

Very fascinating programme,

That's interesting mami. I remember reading a few years ago that it's believed in 30 years the British - Caribbean minority (ie ancestors of those who moved here in the 50s) will no longer exist because that population have always had such a high incidence of mixed race relationships.

I also thought Michelle Keegan and Cheryl Cole were the current UK hotties and they don't looked very blue eyed and blond!

The stats speak for the western world. Not individuals.

what stats????

can you point us to the evidence that blue is 'the western worlds' preferred eye colour?

Are people being deliberately obtuse? The OP clearly meant the 'blonde haired blue eyed' myth perpetuated by many as the beauty 'ideal', the media and Disney being two examples!
I know what you meant by it, OP.

Can I tell you all something a bit interesting? I have not mentioned it to anyone IRL but it's something I've noticed and I feel safe enough mentioning it here in the context of this thread - and the attractiveness of mixed-race children.

DD2 who is in Year 4 seems to pick the most attractive girls in her class to be best friends with. There have been three of them over the years since Reception (we are talking about joined-at-the-hip best friends to the exclusion of all else) and all three girls were (are) absolutely gorgeous mixed-race black and white girls. And they are the only mixed-race girls in the class.

I have noticed it (not in a bad way) and found it quite interesting, but at the same time I feel like I somehow shouldn't have noticed it and having done so makes me a lot less colour blind than I would like to be IYSWIM?

Oh FFS. Trying not to bite but can't help it.

Ok, first off what do you mean by "the western world"?

Secondly, which stats?

Thirdly, how were they compiled? Was it a reliable study?

Fourthly, are there any contradictory stats? If so, to which should an educated person give credence?

Fifthly, and most importantly, no statistic purports to speak for something it doesn't represent! If there is a reliable statistic, and it does say what you say it does, and if it is irrefutable, it would - could - never say "the Western World prefers blue eyes"!

Gawd. Am not going to post again. This is the kind of utter bollocks my mum comes out with - completely depressing.

Fucks sake op, have the grace to apologise and say yes I did fuck up and I didn't realise what I said could be construed as being culturally insensitive instead of linking to the fucking fail.

I am very pale with blue eyes and was told a few years back at the optician's that my retina had almost no pigment which made my eyes extra sensitive to light. Not sure if the blue eyes are related to the retina paleness, though.

Do people really have favourite coloured eyes? Eyes can be beautiful in lots of colours, thinking of eyes that have appealed to me.

Patrick Dempsey, brilliant blue eyes.
David Boreanaz, wonderful brown eyes
Scott Foley, stunning green/hazel eyes that seem to change colour

I have tried so so hard to avoid, ignore, rise above it but I can't. I find myself scratching my forehead because I am slightly irritated.

One question Op. Do you seriously think 2103 represent our entire nation? Really? Please tell me you don't before I scratch the skin off my forehead.

Also what Shitvile Uni conducted the American study?

Report
GymBum · 27/05/2015 21:28

Ahh wait a minute it wasn't Shitvile Uni study, it was an online dating site asking men to attach a financial value to women or female "attributes". FFS... On that note I am going to bed!

I don't think it's ridiculous at all, SumThucker. Many people have pointed out to the OP that her attitude towards blue eyes can be construed as racist, yet she has continued to bang on about their desirability. The title of the thread declares that blue eyes are a "blessing". Pure, racist claptrap.
