Ok so I probably am just incompetent but how do you get the gunky slime out after leaving it in there without it oozing through the door hinge and all over the floor?
I only have a couple of hours to discover the secret of grown up oven cleaning!???!

Cleaning an oven?
Hahahahaha.

Sorry that wasn't helpful.
I'm a big fan of old fashioned soda crystals. (Discovered them when dd was in nappies)
Like the idea of getting someone in once a year.
But otherwise, nope.
Mind you we're a meat-free household so that probably makes a differen. I can imagine some meat fat might start smelling a bit rancid.

Bicarbonate of soda is fabulous stuff. It cleans, everything!

Just mix with a bit of water to make a paste, smear it everywhere and leave it.

I've just got my 9 year old to put all her stuff away with the promise of doing an experiment in the bathroom. (Slightly blocked plug) we put bicarb down the only and then all over the sink and then added white vinegar. Sparkling sink, clear plug, happy child :)

I have a self cleaning oven which basically gets very hot and then al the crap is burnt and you brush it out. Putting oven on at highest temp for a couple hrs should have the same effect. So much easier than regular cleaning.

I think our oven has been cleaned once in the last 3.5 years! hangs head in shame

This thread has inspired me, I've just bought the Lakeland Oven Mate gel and the liner for afterwards. I'm a bit worried about the fan making it flap about but suppose I can weight it down with something?

Ours was new when we moved in and has a fancy self cleaning setting but DP is scared to use it for some reason, plus it won't get the glass door from brown to see-through will it!
