Aibu to absolutely detest this phrase? How do they know it hasn't already happened?

I think it's the only way some men think they can engage and get a response from a woman! Be it a good or bad response..

CruCru · 24/05/2015 16:35

I used to get this when I was younger and prettier. It's super intrusive, usually I was just thinking about something else.

I was on the bus 3 months after my boyfriend died, a lady said that phrase to me, I was so emotional I burst out, 'I lost my boyfriend, job and our home in the space of 6 weeks, you tell me what I have to smile about! Maybe you should think twice before saying anything to strangers as you have absolutely no idea what pain they are trying so desperately to hold in' Then burst into tears, she had the decency to look thououghly ashamed throughout the remainder of out 35 minute journey. I really hope that it made her and the other passengers think before opening their mouths next time.

Yep, happened to me, walking back from hospital after a miscarriage, total stranger. I didn't say anything but I so wish I had.

And these insensitive stupid idiotic lunatic beings actually inhabit our planet,

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 24/05/2015 19:10

YANBU. I used to get it when I was in my teens and 20s, but it pretty much never happens now I'm late 40s strangely enough.Hmm I wonder why? I mean I'm apparently still pretty. Maybe I just go around with an air of "don't fuck with me" so am not an easy "target" for twats Grin

Hate this too. In my experience said by old men. Am I clutching at straws to think it will die out?

Also hate the "it takes less [sic] muscles to smile than frown" as if that makes any difference to how happy you're feeling.
