Either the actual lottery or scratch cards etc? Love hearing these stories.

A syndicate at work won about £250k each. One person had been on holiday that week, and not paid their subs, despite having done so every other week. They didn't split it with him.

And another guy from the same office won £350k. They paid off their mortgage so his wife could give up work to be a SAHM, but other than that, their life is exactly they same. They didn't even go on a big holiday! They literally used the whole lot of pay off/down their mortgage and carried on as normal.

The people I know who won £53million haven't done anything YET! Grin

ImperialBlether · 20/05/2015 11:54

Icrackedup: you said your dad won and emigrated without a backwards glance, having paid off your brother's mortgage.

Didn't he give you anything? Was his behaviour expected?

A relative of ex h won 64 million dollars in America.

I know one.

They turned their nice cottage into a monster - now looks like a nursing home and went on a holiday where they got their exchange rates mixed up so splashed out on a 200 handbag that was actually 2000. They've got divorced.

The person I knew it was around Xmas when the syndicate won, a few people pulled out as money was tight and they got zip.

Was in the local paper. They got begging letters for years even though they won only 100k ish

Dowser · 20/05/2015 12:58

No, I don't ' know' anyone who did but suspect my mums friend did.

I did win £1000 in a daily mail competition only to win another £1000 five weeks later, same paper different competion.

There used to be a website , think it was called free money .com. I won a £1000 on that as well.

So, yes universe, I'm happy for you to drip feed into my account!

( was awhile ago, so reckon I'm due another win!)

maninawomansworld · 20/05/2015 13:00

Yes a friend of mine was one of a syndicate or four people who shared £2.5m .
£625k each.
Nice.

I know a lady who won 6.7 million, and the daughter of a couple who won £700,000.

I love this thread. I am going to buy a ticket today!

A couple on my parents' street won £7m. The loveliest couple ever. Gave a lot of their win away to family, friends and local charities.

About 30 years ago someone I worked with won £500,000 on the Pools. We had a whip round to buy her a present when she left!

CheesyDibbles · 20/05/2015 13:54

I once had a dream that I had won a million. The following day, I bought a lottery ticket and won - £40.

I used to work with someone who won £60,000 on Bingo. She spent the lot and ended up back in financial difficulties.

My ex husband won 67k with 5 numbers + bonus ball, 2 weeks before we got married. When I divorced him 2 1/2 years later he still had every penny in his separate bank account and he insisted his retired parents remortgaged their house to pay me the 25k I'd agreed to settle for to get a quick divorce. His meanness with money was just a part of his general mean spiritedness - it was part of the reason I left him.
