Yes. Friends parents won £4m Shock.

littlefrenchonion · 18/05/2015 19:50

Yep, a lovely family that really needed it for medical treatment. They won 2.6m!

Statistically it doesn't mean anything to me in reality, but at the time I thought 'bugger, there goes my chances, what's the liklihood I'll win it too?'

AuntieStella · 18/05/2015 19:51

I don't know the winner directly, but a friend's mum won c.£200k (not long after she'd been widowed).

PeppermintCrayon · 18/05/2015 19:52

I wouldn't tell anyone if I won, don't get why people blab.

ShootTheMoon · 18/05/2015 19:52

No, I don't know anyone who has won more than about £150, in fact I don't know anyone who is not considerably 'down' on their lottery expenditure.

A nice 5 or 6 figure sum would be bloody brilliant about now. I just want to live in a house that isn't continually a dusty building site!

LadyFlumpalot · 18/05/2015 19:57

My partners grandad won the EuroMillions raffle a while back. Most I've won is £54.

CPtart · 18/05/2015 19:57

Our small local pharmacy team won several million in the first year. All the staff finished work, but the pharmacist bought the business and still works there. He's lovely.

VodkaJelly · 18/05/2015 19:57

Yes 2 people. Someone who i knew a few years ago won about £100,000 on the lottery not long after it started so about 1997 ish. I know she invested the money but since had a baby and bought a house but split up with her partner. Havent seen her for years so dont know what she did with her win.

A woman a few doors down from me won as part of a syndicate, she got something like £200,000. She moved and bought a lovely house etc. This was about 7 years ago but i read via facebook a couple of years ago that she had died with complications due to her diabetes. Very sad.

MarniRose · 18/05/2015 19:58

No, but I won 11 thousand back in 1999. Which was nice!

Esko · 18/05/2015 20:01

About 15 years ago, a colleague won about £100k. Another colleagues dad won £60k. I was convinced DDs friends'smum had won because she went overnight from ordinary, to a £2m flat, ponies etc. Turned out she was having an affair with a mega rich and generous bloke.

LittleMilkNoSugar · 18/05/2015 20:02

Yes. My friend's parents won nearly £5 million on the lottery. If I remember rightly, they had previously always used the same numbers but for some reason changed them on the week they won.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 18/05/2015 20:02

I do, they were on the bones of their arse as well so it was a lovely thing.

Pollyswall · 18/05/2015 20:06

I know someone who won over 2 million on the football pools. (long time ago)

There were stories about him all over the Sunday papers when his secret other family came to light. All his workmates blabbed to the press.

inmyheadimthequeen · 18/05/2015 20:07

Not that close but my v good friend has two friends (people I don't know) who have each won the Lotto - one about £1.2m, I think, and the other she doesn't know how much but 'a life changing amount of money'. I sometimes joke with her that she's my unlucky charm - no-one has THREE friends who have won so she's the reason I haven't!

Also not long after it started, someone I know won £100k; he had an alcohol problem and it all vanished in about two years without a thing to show for it, and his three children didn't see a penny. They were adults but it would have been nice to have seen it shared around and not wasted, sad really.

MiL won £80,000 on the bingo 20 years ago, it was life changing for her.

Sidge · 18/05/2015 20:12

Some very good friends of mine won nearly half a million. They were struggling so I was so happy for them. And they took us on holiday which was lovely!

inmyheadimthequeen · 18/05/2015 20:13

Actually Esko, sometimes I wonder if my friend has won - she gave up work for a good reason but I was surprised she didn't go back, she has two DCs at a good private school and they have horses and top of the range decent cars, probably £200k worth on the drive of a beautiful house. Her DH works v v hard but we are in the same industry so I could probably guesstimate his salary and it doesn't really add up. I did ask once jokingly and she just laughed, I didn't push it because it's really not my business. Actually I do hope she has won, I'd much rather that than they are living that lifestyle on credit cards and in debt up to their necks.......

Horsemad · 18/05/2015 20:14

I know a couple who very recently won £53m on the Euromillions and a relative won £60,000 about 8 yrs ago.

eatyouwithaspoon · 18/05/2015 20:15

My dh knows 2, 1 90k the other 1 million on a scratch card. My friend personally knows a lovely couple who won just over a million recently and a colleagues in laws 70k on euro millions. A syndicate in an office we deal with won about 200k each and several retired Smile

Cavort · 18/05/2015 20:16

Yes my friend and her newish boyfriend won 3.3 million about 2 years ago. Unfortunately they didn't take legal advice before claiming it and his ex wife took them to court and was awarded a quarter of it (half of his half).

Coincidenceschmoincidence · 18/05/2015 20:18

When my grandma died it came to light that she had had a huge pools win and never mentioned it. Shock

callmewhatever · 18/05/2015 20:26

How scary, this thread just reminded me that I bought a scratchcard on the way home from work, just done it and I've won £100 lucky me, hardly life changing but yay Grin

monkeysox · 18/05/2015 20:33

Well done callme

Outwith · 18/05/2015 20:37

I vaguely knew a woman who won the lottery with her husband. Then she ran off with her daughter's husband. It was in the trashy magazines Confused.
