AIBU about this man in children's park

To set the scene:

Park is quite big, has some open grassy areas (which is for general use - dog walking, people sitting down on grass etc..) a football pitch and a children's park which is fully fenced off and gated. Kids park has several slides, 10 swings, water fountains in summer, picnic tables - so is quite a size in itself.

It's not an overly busy park and on some days (colder weather, term time) it has been just me and DS. It's also quite isolated if no-one is in the football pitch. There is a warden but he takes care of the whole park so often isn't in the hut which is located inside the children's park.

Popped in today {as we do most days} and all was fine. It was actually quiet considering it was nice weather and a Sunday.

I let toddler have a run around and was feeding baby on bench when toddler shoots off and as I turn round to call after toddler I see some bloke has settled himself behind me and is unclothed bar a pair of shorts but even they are rolled up... They are rolled up the way people roll up clothes to catch the sun, so we're talking short shorts.

He was all happily settled on a blanket, earphones in and I am not suggesting for a second he was peeking at me feeding baby, he probably couldn't even tell that I was.

But AIBU to think it's just to the most appropriate place to sunbathe?

I toyed with reporting him but we left soon after. Should I have found the warden and let him know?

It was before Midday, not even that hot and he had the rest of the park to sunbathe in

Or an I being hysterical?

Hi! This is a really funny coincidence, but I think you actually saw me! I was skyping with my girlfriend. I actually saw you keep staring at me, which was a bit awkward, but there we go.

FYI, that bit of the park is a bit nicer when you are lying down to get some sun, because it isn't as open. So it feels a bit more private, and is much less windy. Not really sure what you were concerned about.

Pagwatch · 17/05/2015 19:08

What an astonishing turn of events?

It's like breaking bad with swings and a banana hammock.

SilverNightFairy · 17/05/2015 19:08

If he was in a public park, he has every right to roll up his shorts and break out his beach towel. That being said, you were right to move, OP, if you felt discomfited. Your instincts may have been warning you something was off about this man.

msgrinch · 17/05/2015 19:11

oooo interesting. See op normal people hang out in parks.

FromSeaToShining · 17/05/2015 19:11
Grin

There you see, OP? Nothing to worry about at all. (As we all told you. . .)

pearpotter · 17/05/2015 19:13

I agree it's odd OP. YANBU.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 17/05/2015 19:13

Interesting.

chippednailvarnish · 17/05/2015 19:14

Let that be a lesson to you ramanoop for wearing shorts the OP didn't like.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 17/05/2015 19:15

So let me get this straight. You're wanting to report a man for sunbathing.
Because he was on his own.
So do you think he's an automatic pervert because he doesn't havd children.
You are being very very prejudiced and discriminatory.

windchime · 17/05/2015 19:16

He may have arranged to meet his mate and his kids there. Or his girlfriend with her kids. Jeez. Not every bloke is a paedophile. You are hysterical and BVU.

CupidStuntSurvivor · 17/05/2015 19:16

It would have been unreasonable to report him OP but if you were uncomfortable, you just were. Not much you can do about it other than think it over and work out why.

FWIW, AIBU can definitely be a bit strange at times...thick skin is a necessity. There are plenty of posters who come here to pick posts apart and scrutinise irrelevant bits.

TheFairyCaravan · 17/05/2015 19:17

FFS Worra I've got 15 staples across my pubic region from surgery on Monday, your "using his dick as a sundial" comment almost made me cry! Grin

YAB completely daft OP. The man was doing nothing wrong.

partialderivative · 17/05/2015 19:17

There are loads of pervs in parks.

There are loads of pervs in toilets
There are loads of pervs in the cinema
There are loads of perv in the playgraound...

There are loads of pervs on your street, there always have been.

Sink back into your lowly DM paranoia.

(I hate the term 'perv')

BaronessEllaSaturday · 17/05/2015 19:18

Depends on the park really, one I was at yesterday I wouldn't think anything of it as although you can sit in the rest of the park it really isn't safe, bikes riding through it despite not being allowed, dogs running all over, dog poo just about everywhere and to add to it all due to the prevailing wind conditions if you sit on the big grassy area the smell of weed from the skateboard park is unbearable. Saying all that I can think of other parks where yes it would be very weird for an adult on their own to make themselves comfy in the childrens play area.

msgrinch · 17/05/2015 19:18

ramanoop were you using your dick as a sundial? Grin

Pagwatch · 17/05/2015 19:19

Come one people

testicle basking due has just shown up on the thread

Keep up!

Pagwatch · 17/05/2015 19:20

Ramanoop

Are you sure it was quite warm enough to sunbathe?
Also, where did you get your short?

Diamond23 · 17/05/2015 19:22

partialderivative believe me I suspect I deal with a lot more pervs than you do. They are everywhere. Quite often minding their own business and trying to stay out of trouble. It's my job to keep an eye on them Wink

Totality22 · 17/05/2015 19:23

What a coincidence that the very man I saw uses MN. Small world.

I suppose it would seem a bit odd OP but I'd have just shrugged my shoulders and carried on at the park. It just seems like you've panicked a bit.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 17/05/2015 19:26

So what's your opinion now, OP?

KPlunk · 17/05/2015 19:27

Are dogs allowed in the rest of the park? If so, perhaps he wanted to lie somewhere that would be free of 'hidden' dog mess and where he wouldn't risk getting jumped on by a dog.

I think that would be a very reasonable reason to want to be in the kiddie part of the park.

There you go, mystery solved. Wink

Totality22 · 17/05/2015 19:30

My opinion remains the same.

Odd place to sunbathe.

OP posts:
KillmeNow · 17/05/2015 19:32

I would have gone to find the warden and asked him to keep an eye on the sunbather.

No matter what the PPs have said - it IS odd , in fact mighty peculiar to choose that spot when there was a huge other area to opt for. I wonder if any of PPs had this happen to them. All alone in a big empty park with small children to look after and weird ,almost naked, man turns up very close behind them . The supposition is that he is at the very least drunk or on drugs and therefore without some normal social boundaries . He might be violent or just sleepy - how is the OP to know?

YANBU OP.

EponasWildDaughter · 17/05/2015 19:38

We need to verify this! Grin Amazing coincidence.

ramanoop - what colour were the shorts and the blanket?
