to ask, do you get a lift/high from shopping

not a high as such just if your feeling low, does buying things help lift you a bit?

it does with me, luckily I can afford to buy treats here and there, I get quite a lot of enjoyment from window shopping, but when I feel low, a little treat like a new make up item, or perfume, or a new dress or some sort of clothing does lift me

I guess it's not too much of an issue as I don't spend what I can't afford so not getting madly in debt

but is this normal
do you get this lift?

Its mainly treat items that get enjoyment from, but even food shopping lifts me a little bit
I like the feeling from a nice full fridge

I know exactly where you are coming from.

Bippidee · 12/05/2015 18:31

Absolutely! Even online "shopping" - choosing items and then adding to a virtual basket without the actual purchase is good enough sometimes.

SaucyJack · 12/05/2015 18:31

Kind of. I get just as much enjoyment out of looking for the perfect item as I do from actually shopping.

More of a window shopper I suppose.

seaoflove · 12/05/2015 18:32

Yes, unfortunately!

ThursdayLast · 12/05/2015 18:32

I definitely get immense satisfaction from a food shop well done.
And yes, I think buying a little treat here and there is a bit of a lift. With clothes or make up you get the anticipation of wearing them the first time too.

MrsSheRa · 12/05/2015 18:33

I'm the opposite, I get full of Shoppers Guilt Sad

backwardpossom · 12/05/2015 18:33

In a way, yes. I get the food shopping thing - maybe it's because it stops the dreaded "I need to get a big shop" feeling if my fridge is full?

No. Maybe im shopping wrong. Ive not done pleasure shopping (anything but food) since i was a teenager. One day i want £100 in my pocket and to be let loose in fat face, john lewis or white stuff.... My dream.

MetallicBeige · 12/05/2015 18:35

Yes, if I am feeling a bit down in the dumps my go to quick cheerer-upper is buying a new nail varnish, only the cheapy Rimmel stuff, but I love it.
I hate shopping but I like buyin things iykwim?

AuntyMag10 · 12/05/2015 18:36

Yanbu, I do this too. Today in fact.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2015 18:36

Yes.

dingit · 12/05/2015 18:37

Yes, and online shopping too Blush fortunately it's not out of control and I have no debts.

i do like online shopping, but i prefer shopping in stores, I especially get more of a lift if the goods are then wrapped in tissue paper, and ribbon then put in a fancy bag or box
guess that's why the retailers do it.

I think the reason I like the fridge being full, I think if anyone is ill you have plenty of supplies in

but it could be a feeling of no need to go shopping again for a while, never thought of that

TheMoa · 12/05/2015 18:39

No, I hate shopping. I hate having to acquire new things - oh I need a toothbrush, which of the 150 on the shelf do I need?! Shock

I food shop online, unless I want something fancy. I shop for pretty much everything else online too.

I don't wear make up, I hate shopping for clothes, I don't much care for candles, or smelly stuff, or housey things.

I'd be quite happy if I only ever had to shop for books, and food, and Christmas trees Grin

CatSwag · 12/05/2015 18:40

mrsshera, could you elaborate?
why do you think you feel that way?

one thing I don't do is buy loads of things that I never use or wear, that's something my mum has always done, she has 4 times the wardrobe space, full of bargain stuff that she's never worn

UnspecialSnowflake · 12/05/2015 18:40

The biggest buzz I get is from finding bargains in charity shops. I live in a wealthy area (sadly I am not wealthy) so some really good brands show up in our local charity shops.

FurryDogMother · 12/05/2015 18:43

Oh gawd, yes! Shopping is an instant pick-me-up for me - I do most of it online, and can spend ages browsing and choosing stuff, usually from Amazon. It's the searching for things that I enjoy most, so have recently saved money by adding things to my wish list, instead of actually buying them :) This saves a lot of impulse purchasing!

CatSwag · 12/05/2015 18:44

I should try this wish list idea

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 12/05/2015 18:44

Yes, I do get a high from buying new clothes/make-up/accessories. Though I am not addicted or anything like that.

rambunctious · 12/05/2015 18:50

I don't consider myself to be a 'shopper,' in fact I am trying to downsize my stuff (a la Marie Kondo!). I however do get the shopper's high thing. But for me, like others on the thread, I can get just as much satisfaction from 'wish list' shopping. What i tend to do is pop something on the wish list or in the cart, and then revisit it over a few days. If it still has its appeal (and if I need it), only then will i buy it

hiccupgirl · 12/05/2015 18:51

I love shopping but for me it has to be a trip into town and trying on lots of different things before maybe buying just one or two of them. I do like looking online but I don't find it as satisfying tbh.

But yes shopping def gives me a lift.

drbadbride · 12/05/2015 18:55

I never fail to return from a clothes/shoes shopping trip without feeling thoroughly frustrated, fed-up and depressed.

Stroking the shiiiiiny things in the Apple Store, however, is another thing entirely Grin

flora717 · 12/05/2015 18:56

No. It's very much a chore for me. The only time I've gotten a buzz was when I bought a new (rider: year old) car (perhaps it was just light headed from spending so much money in one go!)
