to ask, do you get a lift/high from shopping

not a high as such just if your feeling low, does buying things help lift you a bit?

it does with me, luckily I can afford to buy treats here and there, I get quite a lot of enjoyment from window shopping, but when I feel low, a little treat like a new make up item, or perfume, or a new dress or some sort of clothing does lift me

I guess it's not too much of an issue as I don't spend what I can't afford so not getting madly in debt

but is this normal
do you get this lift?

Its mainly treat items that get enjoyment from, but even food shopping lifts me a little bit
I like the feeling from a nice full fridge

Winning a bargain on ebay in the last few seconds, for something I really want. I feel so smug satisfied and happy. Its usually stuff for the house though. Although I found an unusual dress the other week for a wedding I am going to for £15 Smile

avocadotoast · 12/05/2015 18:56

I really like food shopping. I couldn't even tell you why. It could be because I love the sight of a full fridge and I'm a massive fatty

silveracorn · 12/05/2015 19:16

No. I get very little pleasure from shopping. I only shop about once every month to six weeks and the biggest pleasure from it is if everything is in stock so I don't have to go back. I don't get much pleasure even from clothes shopping even though I can get pleasure from wearing them. Bit weird. Does mean I rarely buy stuff I don't need or want though.

I do get a geeky sort of pleasure form buying stationery but that's due to a notebook fetish - nothing to do with shopping as an activity.

Ecudadordreaming · 12/05/2015 19:18

I absolutely love shopping and get an enormous high from it and that can be gorgeous clothes or just a food supplement from Amazon Blush.

unlucky83 · 12/05/2015 19:25

I hate supermarket shopping, hate walking around town doing clothes etc shopping - especially hate shopping with DCs - things like shoes...
But I like buying stuff like gadgets -cordless hoovers and window vacs ...things to make chores less arduous. I get a lift from that ...
And also getting things 'off my to buy list' - I have a memory like sieve so I need to write things like that down. So eg realised DCs needed new sheets - (really thin - one had holesBlush) - write on list - but I only like getting them 100% cotton and ideally not white/cream... every where I looked (when I remembered) couldn't get them .. then found some in Ikea...yay ...ticked off the list....
Was reading something about ADHD - (DD1 has it, suspect I do too) can't remember what or exactly why - think it was something to do with even as an adult impulsive behaviour can cause problems - someone who kept losing control of their spending and got into debt - part of managing their condition was making sure they always kept the receipts - so when they had reflected they could and did return things...

I dislike shopping, but I don't mind 'shopping trips', the kind that happen at Christmas where morning coffee, then lunch, are priorities.

I do enjoy getting things I need... but having lots of 'stuff' gets me down.

If I have to shop, outdoor shops are my favourite (I like camping).

formerbabe · 12/05/2015 21:06

I love shopping...love love love love love it.
If I could afford it I would go shopping everyday!
I love shopping for food, clothes, make up, books, home stuff etc etc.
Did I mention I love shopping?
I really really do.

RusticBlush · 12/05/2015 21:13

Yes I get a manic high when I shop - then I feel sick afterwards thinking of how much I've spent Confused

PortB · 12/05/2015 21:23

I hate shopping for clothes, food etc.
But
Art Materials
Nooooo Sketchbooks
Stationery in general

luckily DS1 (14) has this gene and we can happily spend hours in paperchase

jessym · 12/05/2015 21:25

I'm a bit of a foodie so I absolutely love food shopping. Whether it's the farmers' market, the local bakery or just The supermarket it's all fun. Wandering round a good food market is my favourite thing to do when I visit somewhere new. I love book shops, too. Or rather I used to love bookshops when such things existed....

Clothes shopping, on the other had, bores me. Trying things on is a hassle, looking for my size likewise. I'd rather be in Lidl Grin

propelusagain · 12/05/2015 21:33

I hate shopping. Even for stuff I need like a new winter coat or something necessary.
What I do like however is seeing a large amount of money in my savings account.

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 13/05/2015 13:58

I used to ADORE shopping, but since dc (10 years and counting), I've enjoyed it less and less, to the point where i realise the other day I no longer would care if i ever shopped again. Good for my bank balance but a sign of ageing

spiderlight · 13/05/2015 14:08

Yes, especially online - I love looking forward to something nice arriving in the post, although I invariably feel guilty once it's actually here! Am trying to curb it a bit.

Nabootique · 13/05/2015 14:09

Sainsburys - no
Cult Beauty/H&M/Superdrug - yes Smile

Allwayslookingforanswers · 13/05/2015 14:12

I like grocery shopping a lot but not clothes/high street shopping. I like having a house full of food and actually feel a bit twitchy when we are out of food stuff.

I love having all my appliances working, Dishwasher, Washing Machine and Tumble dryer going currently (no garden for drying), makes me feel like I am doing housework I guess....

Aeroflotgirl · 13/05/2015 14:26

Oh yes, I am a bit of a spendthrift Blush

KiteKit · 13/05/2015 15:56

I love food shopping. I like all that is associated with it - meal planning, making the shopping list, wandering around the supermarket (ideally M&S or somewhere like that) and then enjoying the well stocked fridge and cupboards. Makes me feel really on top of things and prepared for anything (other than a prolonged power cut Wink) I start to feel panicky when food dwindles and I often read threads here where people say they buy ONLY exactly what will be eaten and on the last day before shopping the fridge and cupboards are empty. I could not live like that!

I am not wasteful, we use everything as much as is possible but when we get to about 2 or 3 days worth of food I restock and use the oldest stuff first.

I also really love clothes, home goods and book shopping. I'm partial to a bit of jewellery shopping too.........Wink

specialsubject · 13/05/2015 16:14

each to their own but no, never. Any more that I do from ironing, changing beds, washing clothes. Buying things is a chore that has to be done, whatever the things are.

Patapouf · 13/05/2015 16:53

Yes yes yes

unlucky83 · 13/05/2015 16:59

areyou not sure not enjoying shopping is a sign of ageing!
I know I hated it in my 20s -used to stockpile things if I was near shops so I didn't have to 'go through' it again for a while.
(Reason I remember clearly is because when money became tight and I had to watch the pennies I realised I had something like 20 pairs of M&S knickers still in the packs and god knows how many not - didn't have to buy pants for something like 10 yrs Blush!)

ImperialBlether · 13/05/2015 17:00

But KiteKit, don't you find you don't want to eat the older stuff, when you've got all the lovely new things?

propelusagain · 13/05/2015 17:07

And don't you find it wasteful buying stuff you don't really need?

There must be a lot of rich posters on this thread.

I don't think it's a sign of aging = I have always hated it,

specialsubject · 13/05/2015 17:14

just never seen it is a hobby, or anything but a painful chore. Clothes, shoes, food, whatever.

all indoors and boring. No ta. And it is just STUFF and a lot of it is waste.

propelusagain · 13/05/2015 17:18

I resent being a pawn in some marketer's great plan. They know how to create desire and extract our cash.

I won't fall for it- it's all a heap of crap.

abigamarone · 13/05/2015 17:18

I feel a bit of retail therapy if I'm just buying some cake liners in a pound shop
