To think this t shirt and slogan was off for a child?

Bambambini · 10/05/2015 20:52

I think it was off anyway but especially on a boy who looked about 12-14. Just back from local restaurant with my kids and this teenager's t shirt said

" Bitch, ride a unicorn ". Am I just being po faced? It was my 9yr old who spotted it and was awed/shocked.

But that isn't what the slogan means. So how can it be inappropriate?

SirChenjin · 10/05/2015 21:59

Grin Spotify - so true!

FromSeaToShining · 10/05/2015 22:00

I mean, it would be like saying, "Oh, I saw someone with a shirt that said 'Hello Kitty'. But I misread it and thought it said 'Hell Kitty.' Don't you think it's inappropriate for a child to wear a shirt with the word 'hell' on it? And I love kitties! Who would want to send them to hell?"

Seriously, that seems to be the logic you are applying to this situation.

CatsCantTwerk · 10/05/2015 22:01

What SpotifyMuse said! Grin

Bambambini · 10/05/2015 22:01

Because that's what I thought it meant - and it was a Sunday for crying out loud!

“The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.”
(and they wear inappropriate t-shirts)

? Socrates

Tangoandcreditcards · 10/05/2015 22:02

When I was 13 or 14 I wore a T shirt to church that said "warning, this bitch bites". I'm definitely not proud of myself (oh, but I was then)... this was actual DECADES ago.

It's "off", I suppose, but no indictment of modern society (depending on how you're measuring modern).

I'd also have loved the thought of a load of prudish parents posting about it on the internet (had such a thing existed), by the way.

parsnipbob · 10/05/2015 22:04

May be missing something here but what does it being a Sunday have to do with anything??

CatOfTheWoods · 10/05/2015 22:06

Actually now I think about it, a friend had one ages ago (in our 20s) that said "I'm not A bitch, I'm THE bitch and it's Ms Bitch to you."

Which I quite liked! So there we go. I just turned into an old giffer.

labelwriter · 10/05/2015 22:09

For a ten year old? That is horrible. Actually for any age that is horrible.

parsnipbob · 10/05/2015 22:15

I have a pair of earrings that say 'fuck'

I wear them with pride.

SanityClause · 10/05/2015 22:16

My point is SirChengin, that you get so many comments on here from people without teenagers saying what they wouldn't let their teenagers do, and how they would stop them doing it.

Of course you can confiscate their phones for whatever you like, but it all becomes a bit meaningless if it's for every little thing.

My teenage DDs wouldn't wear that Tshirt, because they would consider the word "bitch" to be mysoginistic. But they have learnt that over time. It's too late once they are teenagers to start laying down the law. That's my point.

FarelyKnuts · 10/05/2015 22:23

A lot of my younger alternative gender dressing friends would jokingly say things like "Bitch, please, I'm fabulous" when all dressed in their finery for a night out.
It's supposed to be fake dismissive of people who might sneer or make fun of you (or bitch about you!) for being a bit different.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 10/05/2015 22:25

Never Google "chocolate unicorn". I did once when I was looking to see if anyone made them as I was after some for my DD. That has ruined the word unicorn for me and I would have thought similar to OP

winewolfhowls · 10/05/2015 22:32

I long for a brave knight to sweep me off my feet with a deep beardy plea to ride his unicorn, sigh.

MummyPidge · 10/05/2015 22:41

I've got this on a jumper, (I'm 33) I wore it to Sainsburys, thats probably as bad as wearing it out to family Sunday dinner surely? And bitch please, I am fabulous Grin. It's from the line by Charlotte from Geordie Shore which probably offends even more!

MummyPidge · 10/05/2015 22:51

And I bought it because it made me laugh, not because it was shocking or "cool" plus, anything that mentions Unicorns is ok by me!

Bambambini · 10/05/2015 22:52

Mummypidge - did it ever cross your mind that some members of the public (pearl clutchers or misreaders like me) would think you were inviting them to ride your cock? Or that you might be declaring your virginity (as it seems only virgins can ride a unicorn) - you definitely learn something new everyday here!

Would a boy usually wear this anyway - thought it was a boy.

OP posts:
SanityClause · 10/05/2015 22:55

Why wouldn't a boy wear it, if a girl would? It's clothing!

MummyPidge · 10/05/2015 22:55

I didn't even know that Unicorn = cock in some people's eyes, if people want to think I'm a virgin that can control unicorns then that's ok by me! I've only ever seen girls wear it, but I suppose as its a "celebrity" line then it will appeal to most, although I don't think I'd be watching Geordie Shore at age 12, but that's a whole other thread!

Kleptronic · 10/05/2015 23:23

Nah the unicorn thing's been going for ages. There's one called Nigel, flies by rocket powered rainbow farts. And there's one going round with the slogan 'Always be yourself. Unless you're a unicorn. Then always be a unicorn'. It's a meme. My 11 year old DS has a t-shirt with a trotting unicorn and piles of rainbow shit behind it. As far as I can tell he identifies as hetero right now Grin

Bambambini · 11/05/2015 08:18

Thinking of it, the kids do like watching a couple of psychotic unicorns on YouTube. Other than that, the whole unicorn thing has passed me by.

It still said Bitch though which is quite strong for a child.

OP posts:
WhyYesIDidEatAllThePies · 11/05/2015 09:42

This thread has left me completely bemused with the whole "I misread a t-shirt and was offended by my misunderstanding of the slogan because it's Sunday" but that's OK. What matters is that you always be yourself OP.

Unless you can be a unicorn.

Then always be a unicorn.

annielouise · 11/05/2015 10:43

It's missing two commas to make sense (and a full stop but I'll let them away with that). It should be "Bitch, please, I ride a unicorn." A bit snarky.

namechange0dq8 · 11/05/2015 12:40

Kids these days...music's just a noise...can't hear the words...can't tell if it's a boy or a girl...disrepect...on a Sunday too...Beatles...Sex Pistols...Elvis...Bobby Soxers...don't they know there's a war on...why can't they wear a nice cardigan and listen to Frank Ifield...Vera Lynn...how do they get those clothes on the ration...damn pirate radio...
