To think this t shirt and slogan was off for a child?

I think it was off anyway but especially on a boy who looked about 12-14. Just back from local restaurant with my kids and this teenager's t shirt said

" Bitch, ride a unicorn ". Am I just being po faced? It was my 9yr old who spotted it and was awed/shocked.

The unicorn thing is in at the moment. I've seen it on lots of clothes. Dunno why...

It's not sexual. Bitch please is just a trendy term, a bit like saying Dude really? A bit dismissive or sarcastic.
I ride a unicorn is a way of saying how fab or cool you are.
So in other words....

Hey you, you think you're cool, well actually I am cooler because I do this fantastic thing.

Toootiirreed · 10/05/2015 21:13

Even with the "explanations" still think it's disgusting.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 10/05/2015 21:13

But surely it should be spelled BEE-YATCH complete with dismissive hand wave and sideways bobbing head movement.

Oops x-post.

So if that's right, it needs some punctuation!

The "bitch" in this case isn't as bad as it could be I suppose. It's crass but it's not about bitches = women as sex objects. Still grim though.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 10/05/2015 21:14

Oh fuck sorry

todayisayesterdaystomorrow · 10/05/2015 21:15

Ok, I see the point, but it's just .... No good, not funny, not big, not clever, just .... No!

SideOrderofChips · 10/05/2015 21:15

Unicorns are in fashion at the moment which really pleases my 8 year old as she loves them

My 8 year old has a t shirt that says 'Most girls want a pony. I want a unicorn'

She has it because she does have a pony

DisappointedOne · 10/05/2015 21:15

They're EVERYWHERE!

SirChenjin · 10/05/2015 21:16

Bitch please is not a trendy term amongst teenagers generally, nor is it the equivalent of 'dude'. It's really, really not.

Bambambini · 10/05/2015 21:17

So, am I thenonlynonenthatbthougtnit might be sexual and asking females to ride your dick? Because if you are old like me and out of trendy phraseology then some folk out there might think that's exactly what it's saying.

That's why in raised the Op as I wasn't quite sure what it meant.

OP posts:
Mrsstarlord · 10/05/2015 21:17

I guess it loses any element of 'cool' if you have to explain it to people.

CatOfTheWoods · 10/05/2015 21:17

I know, it's just ... well, no you're not riding a unicorn, and in fact couldn't. So what a pointless piece of one-upmanship.

"So, am I the only one that thought it" - sorry, my iPad is dying on me.

Not according to my teens (almost 16 and 18) Lemony - from what they've said it's an expression that's used in certain circles by some people, but it's not something that's widely used - anyone wearing a t-shirt like this knows full well there is a shock value to it.

Nothing sexual about that slogan. I wouldn't buy a shirt like that because I loathe the word "bitch." But any outrage directed at the slogan as some sort of sexual euphemism is misplaced.

letscookbreakfast · 10/05/2015 21:26

It's almost like an internet meme.

PurpleSwift · 10/05/2015 21:26

I'm assuming it's the "bitch please, I ride a unicorn". I can't get too upset over it. If I had teenagers would I let them wear it? No but it absolutely doesn't shock me.
