AIBU to think Sam Cam wears horrible clothes?

I have seen her in about two nice outfits ever. She seems nice enough, but for someone with such a high public profile I just think "Um...is that the best you could come up with?" The shirt waister she wore on Voting Day made her look like a 70s beautician. She has the height and a great figure for clothes.

Sheesh. She doesn't have the greatest eye for style, so shoot her! I suspect the hat she picked for the royal wedding was so awful it wasn't allowed.

Leave her be.

The men just put on a suit in a job like that, i wouldnt know if it was Tom Ford or their dads old Burton cast off! ( or roll sleeves up of shirt for the working class look)

BalloonSlayer · 09/05/2015 21:05

I don't have a problem with what she wears - as others have said "her choice" etc - TOTALLY agree.

But I am stunned at her being feted as a style icon and reading article upon article about her wonderful fashion sense. WTF?

That blue polyester high-necked, waist-belted monstrosity she wore to vote in would have made Margaret Thatcher vomit. (Maybe she wore it on purpose as a kind of rebellion in the anticipation that it would be the last time she would ever be photographed and her clothes commented on?)

AnnoyedParent22 · 09/05/2015 21:05

Actually I think SamCam can be judged on her clothes.

She is the creative director of an upmarket stationers and I am sure having the right image is a big part of that role, let alone as the PMs wife.

I think her style is okay and pretty unique to her.

Not one I would ever emulate though.

And I agree she does seem pretty drippy really. Simpering and vacant and the way she gets trotted out by David like she's a show dog at Crufts really gets my goat.....

I just can't warm to her at all [and I loathe her DH]. That Daily Mail puff piece they did inside No 10 made me want to puke.

TinyBit · 09/05/2015 21:06

nasty thread

The80sweregreat · 09/05/2015 21:10

I liked Nicks wife ( not that i will ever meet her ) she looked one not to give a damn either! Strong spanish woman, i bet nick is secretly scared of her!

UnsolvedMystery · 09/05/2015 21:14

What a bitchy post, written to slag off a woman who is only in the public eye because of her husband's job.

Dognado · 09/05/2015 21:15

Jesus

KurriKurri · 09/05/2015 21:16

I'm no fan of Cameron, but I really don;t care what his wife wears - if she felt comfortable and liked what she had on good on her - it wouldn't be something I'd wear but then again I doubt she'd go for my hippyish tie dye and flip flops look Grin
I imagine she feels obliged to wear something blueish for the sake of party loyalty.

I don't like the idea that wives/spouses of public figures are fair game for personal criticism. The dress she wore on Friday was absolutely fine from a decorum point of view, - I'd only have been critical if she'd worn fishnets and suspenders or something, that would undermine the seriousness of the occasion, but a blue dress ? No problem.

I'm merely jealous of how slim sam-cam is after having 4 dc, I wish I had that much self control. I thought all the party leader's dps dressed well - I'd love to be Miriam clegg though - kick ass job, great style, 3 dc and a nice husband, who's possibly a bit of a wet lettuce :)

CumberCookie · 09/05/2015 21:23

Why the hell does it matter? She's a politician's wife. I loathe her husband's politics but even if she was married to a politician I admire I couldn't give a rat's arse what she wears.
It has nothing to do with anything, and is extremely sexist. I really doubt anyone will care what Ed Balls wears to Yvette Cooper's political appearances.

elQuintoConyo · 09/05/2015 21:26

Some people have such boring lives that they have to slag off others.

NoArmani you made me snort Grin

The80sweregreat · 09/05/2015 21:26

Apple, Miriam Looks the strong sort to me, but i know nothing! I liked her casual look when he had his results. Its a shame they have to get involved i guess. Its not their job after all. I really diskiked Cherie Blair for no reason. Glad im not a celeb,

PrimalLass · 09/05/2015 21:27

The grey dress from Thursday night made her look like a wartime nurse.

tilliebob · 09/05/2015 21:29

Does it matter?! At least she's wearing clothes which is more than a lot of people in the public eye do these days.

The80sweregreat · 09/05/2015 21:29

Prima, well, it is VE day celebrations!

BadgersArse · 09/05/2015 21:30

this campaign to not judge is so endearing

mewkins · 09/05/2015 21:36

Not really paid attention before but after careful research (google images) I think it may be that she chooses to wear really high necks which looks a bit odd. Lots of people do this though (and button up shirts right to the top etc) and carry it off. I am a similar shape to Sam Cam and look weird when I do this.

OrlandoWoolf · 09/05/2015 22:53

*All that matters about what? She's not a politician, nobody's judging her policies or opinions - she doesn't offer any.

I am rarely interested in what men wear. Because I'm a woman - as I presume most Mumsnetters are*

No - you're just judging what clothes she wears. Most men don't give a shit what other men wear as long as it's appropriate to the occasion. I'm sure most women don't give a shit what men wear as long as it's appropriate. TBH - I bet most men don't care what she is wearing and probably wouldn't start a thread to say how horrible they think it is and that she wears horrible clothes.

But it's ok to start a thread about someone who is in the public eye because she is married to the PM and to say that she wears horrible clothes?

And you wonder why women don't want to go into the public arena?

JoffreyBaratheon · 09/05/2015 22:54

That dress she was wearing yesterday looked like summat from a 70s' nan's wardrobe.

NoArmani - well done on such a caustic comment. I thought this was a lighthearted thread about a style of dress.
Nothing lighthearted about women being critical about others over something so superficial.

Moln · 09/05/2015 23:11

I'm not sure I'm ever going to recover from the image NoArmani's post has put into my head.

I have to say what Sam C wears is what she wears, you are partaking it the belief that woman are there to please visually only. Maybe it'd be acceptable if she'd dressed in a meat dress on Election Day.
