It's all just sinking in, and the other political threads are too eloquent for what I want to express this morning.

Oh tits. This is rubbish.

OP posts:

I also forgot we have other things to look forward to - the cut throat battle to replace Cameron as Tory leader which should start in about 6 months time and should be good fun; the day Cameron has to go to an audience with the Queen to tell her he has lost Scotland as part of UK; Nigel Farage's replacement (should be a cracker!)

Dear God, angemorange I think I love you! Thank you again!

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 08/05/2015 14:02

lord

And that's why labour lost.

Labour don't listen to other people's concerns on major issues so their natural voters went elsewhere to UKIP and snp.

Unfortunately on mumsnet we see today the hysterical outpourings of people who do support labour (and I have) being gobsmacked as they only listen to other labour supporters and deride everyone else.

Not listening is fatal. They didn't learn with Gordon and they haven't learned with Ed.

TwoLeftSocks · 08/05/2015 14:02

Fuck, fuck and fuck again.

ChestyNut · 08/05/2015 14:07

Balls Sad

That's the only coherent thought I have on the result.

nickymanchester · 08/05/2015 14:08

It's just wrong and isn't democratic. 63.2% of voters did not want a Tory government. It's total bollocks.

Yes and 69% did not want a Labour government.

Or even if you add in the SNP then still 65% did not want Labour and/or SNP

You are welcome! David Cameron is celebrating today but I bet in the small hours of the night he'll wake up in a cold sweat thinking about the months ahead :)

ThisFenceIsComfy · 08/05/2015 14:11

Body I think this is more than just about a Labour defeat.

People are crushed more by the fact that any vaguely socialist views do not get elected in this country. That we are as a nation inherently right wing and that the prospect of that forever more makes people massively disheartened and disconnected.

morage · 08/05/2015 14:11

I have not been impressed with Labour, but they would be better than the Tories. I am genuinely scared of what will happen in the next 5 years.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/05/2015 14:12

I'm just plain scared.

meglet · 08/05/2015 14:14

Yanbu. The tories will screw anyone who wasn't born with good health and money..

PHANTOMnamechanger · 08/05/2015 14:14

for me, this poster sums it up

I have to say I'm not surprised by the result though - Labour chose the wrong brother to be leader

DameCatrionaSnidelyGoads · 08/05/2015 14:14

Good News: 182 women elected to parliament, the most ever.

Bad News: the one I voted to elect was a Tory

teatowel · 08/05/2015 14:14

YANBU It is scarey

TwoLeftSocks · 08/05/2015 14:16

Think you've nailed it for me there ThisFenceIsComfy.

Mrsfrumble · 08/05/2015 14:17

Sigh. I was really hoping I'd be moving back to a country that was better than the one we left.

Those of you who say you feel sorry for Nick Clegg, can I ask why? Not being facetious... I'm genuinely interested. The people I know who voted Lib Dem in 2010 did so because they believed them to be more progressive than Labour, and were subsequently mortified to see Clegg climb in to bed with Cameron. It seemed obvious to me that those voters would not be repeating that mistake. Do you think that the Lib Dems did temper the Tories? I know that Vince Cable was the big hope, yet I've heard so little of him in the last few years I had forgotton he existed!

Today I'll be distracted from election misery by some fucking huge storms and tornados that are heading our way. Ahh, the Great Plains in May Hmm

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 08/05/2015 14:17

Instead of fuckkkkkk

Labour fucking listen.

lincolnshirelassy · 08/05/2015 14:19

Yes I would agree fuck fuck fuckety fuck. Husband made redundant under Tory police cuts, I'm public sector and have been on a five year pay freeze, tax credits cut and now they're likely to fuck with child benefit too. Don't know how we ca. survive five more years of this shit, plus I work in local government and our budgets will be cut to the bone. Plus Cameron's stupid smug face is getting wider every day. My 14 year old DD says he looks like a hot dog. Cameron getting knifed in the back by Boris is the only thing that cheers me up a bit. But Boris as PM? Fuuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkk......

morage · 08/05/2015 14:20

Bye, bye NHS.
Bye, bye support to disabled people.
I await the threads complaining about cuts to child benefits and working tax credit.

Plarail123 · 08/05/2015 14:22

You lot should come and experience life under a Left wing regime. You have no rights at all, no basic human rights, no voice. Oh and if you are disabled, you are institutionalised at best. As for zero hours contracts, maternity leave etc. forget about anything like that. Think working with no employment laws until you drop dead. Oh and no Facebook or Mumsnet. You would LOVE it. Britain under the Tories looks like a Socialist paradise compared to this. Celebrate 70 years of freedom since VE Day and consider how fortunate you are.

IPityThePontipines · 08/05/2015 14:23

Thisfence - Spot on. One of my friends is talking about Labour going back to the Left, but that's sadly, not what people want. So where next?

ThisFenceIsComfy · 08/05/2015 14:28

IPity I just don't know. I really don't.

What's the point of going more left? We won't be elected.

Sacrifice our principles again? No thanks. I learnt my lessons from the Blair era.

I don't know is my honest answer

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 08/05/2015 14:29

This

And why do you think people have turned away from socialist views?

That's the thing isn't it.

My view is that during the late years of Blaire, and all of browns leadership, labour lost their core voters by ignoring their fears on immigration, lack of affordable housing, low skilled jobs disappearing etc. Labour MPs accused ordinary people of racism and derided their views.

They didn't listen then and they caught on too late.

Ed looked ridiculous with his pledges carved on a grave stone ffs!

Badly advised and immature.

Of course they will regroup and come back but not as 'socialists' that's dead now.

They need to present themselves as the slightly kinder face of the Tories.

I totally totally blame labour for the rise of UKIP.

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 08/05/2015 14:31

You either get electable or fuck off the park. There's no place for hand wringing.

That's what British working people deserve.

noddyholder · 08/05/2015 14:31

What about those who can't work?

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 08/05/2015 14:31

YANBU. We're all fucked.
