It's all just sinking in, and the other political threads are too eloquent for what I want to express this morning.

Oh tits. This is rubbish.

OP posts:
Baddz · 09/05/2015 17:02

....and about to get a whole lot worse...l

Bursarymum · 09/05/2015 17:04

The problem with pensioners having means tested benefits is that a lot of those who really need them wouldn't apply for them. Especially those who have no family to help and advise them.

Viviennemary · 09/05/2015 17:05

Selfishcuntydupe has said it very well what I and a lot of other think. That's why he isn't PM.

Baddz · 09/05/2015 17:07

I am old enough to have grown up under thatcher.
I remember being taught in drafty, leaky portacabins.
I remember waiting nearly 2 years for an "emergency" op
I remember my parents (who both worked ft From age 15) struggling to pay poll tax for our tiny terrace with 5 people in.
And you know what?
This is going to be worse.
At the end of this parliament schools and the NHS will be mostly privately run.
Dave and his pals will repeal the human rights act and the ban on fox hunting.
But, you know, at least people will pay less tax. The richest people, obv.

LaVolcan · 09/05/2015 17:18

The problem with pensioners is that we are not a homogeneous group, but spanning a 30-40 year age range and also spanning huge disparities of income. The younger ones are the baby boomer generation, who are likely to be extremely vociferous, and would apply for what they were entitled to. And would shout the loudest if taking things away from them were to be suggested.

The older ones who were born before the war, are the ones who are probably much less likely to apply for means tested benefits.

I really think that they could get rid of the Christmas Bonus, and the winter fuel allowance, certainly for the under 75s and a lot would not miss them greatly.

Feminine · 09/05/2015 17:20

I agree with you Baddz
How anyone could vote conservative with a clear conscience, is beyond me.
Their mischief is already coming to fruition, right under our noses!
So many poor souls with lives made hell.

InDespair · 09/05/2015 17:24

All the mums on mumsnet wanting the best for their children and their future.and they go and vote for this scum.

Feminine · 09/05/2015 17:37

Many mums are not in a desperate situation in
Unless you educate yourself, or are in a bad place yourself - you can't possibly know.

MrsNextDoor · 09/05/2015 17:45

Baddz me too. I remember the portacabins and the comprehensive school with NOT A PENNY for anything "extra" such as enough books to have one each Hmm I also remember the sudden appearance of men during the day in our small industrial community after the steelworks were shut down.

And I agree. This time will be worse.

LotusLight · 09/05/2015 18:08

Well done to the large numbers of English voters who have made the right choice. This will definitely be better for your children. You voted wisely.

prorsum · 09/05/2015 18:22

LotusLight yet another Tory on a thread for people unhappy with the outcome and I ask again, why are Tories/Anti-Labourite people posting here? It's like you can't help yourselves. Clearly the unhappy losers on this thread, of which I am one, do not feel the right decision was made. We want a space to commiserate with each other. You won! Yay for you! Enjoy!

LaVolcan · 09/05/2015 18:29

prorsum DH went to the count as a candidate in the local elections, (for neither of the main parties). A lot of decent local politicians lost their seats. He felt sickened by the way the Tories were crowing. Well, I hope it's like 1992 again, where the Tories crowed and gloated only to be slaughtered 5 years later. I look forward to seeing them tear themselves apart over the EU.

Baddz · 09/05/2015 18:30

Lotus.
No, it won't. And those of you that think it will are fools.
I have 2 dc and I am afraid for their future.
I am afraid that their education will be irreparably damaged and they will end up being taught by graduates desperate for any job with barely 6 months training. But that's ok...most nqts leave within 2 years anyway.
I am afraid that my asthmatic son will suffer and not be able to access decent healthcare when he needs it.
I am afraid that my elderly mother will suffer and her (many) health issues will get worse due to cuts made in chronic health care provision.
I stand by my earlier post...
By the end of this parliament both the NHS and education will be privately run.
Daves cronies will all be a damn sight richer.
And there will be an underclass the likes of which hasn't been seen since the 1930s.
If I could leave the UK, I would.

prorsum · 09/05/2015 18:37

LaVolcan I hear ya! I remember 1992; sitting up all night watch Jon Snow, who was as depressed as I was and not caring who knew it.

People lied then, as they did in this election. They're crowing but when asked who they were going to vote for lied their fucking heads off. We're stuck with this lot for another 10 years at least, but watching them implode, as they will, shall be good fun.

Unfortunately a lot of people will have gone under by then. Of course they will all have been shirkers, skivers, lazy, and the like so it's all good.

ElectraCute · 09/05/2015 18:56

Where is Xenia these days? She always used to be on these threads saying there should be a benefit cap of 10k.

Xenia is on this thread. She has reined it in a bit but her posting style is still unmistakeable, bless her stony Tory heart Wink

What I'm hoping is that this will turn out to be a Pyrrhic victory for Cameron et al. I think that the sheer rate and type of cuts they're going to have to make will be a bloody tough sell even to many of the people that voted for them, and to many of their back benchers too. They now have no 'it was Labour wot fucked it' excuse - they have to get the economy properly on the move, with real jobs and a real increase in living standards for everyone. Not a piddly 0.25% growth rate year on year or any old shit like that; they will have to go into the next election with a absolute, cast-iron proof that they have made us ALL richer and happier. And it won't happen.

Not only that, but Dave will have to deal with The Scotland Issue (how will it feel going to see Her Maj. as the PM that finally lost Scotland?) and the EU Issue - cue much infighting and unrest on the back benches. Boris will be standing behind him with a knife ready to pounce - he won't stand for not getting the big job much longer.

I think Dave's in for a nightmare few years. Many of those who voted for him this week will end up horrified at the mess he and Gideon will make of things. And at the end of it, hopefully, there will be a strong opposition - a real 'opposition' that people can get behind, and we'll see the end of the Tories.

I know it's cold comfort for many, but I do honestly think that's how it will play out. In the meantime, we have to protest, fight and keep strong.

LaVolcan · 09/05/2015 19:01

We have to live in hope ElectraCute Smile

ElectraCute · 09/05/2015 19:01

Just to be clear - when I say 'cuts they're going to have to make' I mean because theyve said they will. Not because I think they need to! Austerity is a con but it's too late for that argument, sadly.

Baddz · 09/05/2015 19:04

Electra.
I hope so.
I really do.

ElectraCute · 09/05/2015 19:08

And everyone on this thread who is licking their wounds and worrying about the future - I would say, let's mobilise, let's unite, let's fight for what we believe in. Let's take something good out of this sorry mess, let's get involved to protest and be active and make things better for next time. I have to try and find something positive in this - dp and I have already decided to commit to putting our money where our mouth is, politically, by volunteering and activism etc. I know not everyone would want or be able to do the same but I hope that many will be galvanised into a strong front against the Tories.

Let's show Dave what a Big Society really looks like - he won't like it Grin

grovel · 09/05/2015 19:16

I don't think Cameron will make the cuts to anything like the extent feared.

I sense that he has made the fiscal responsibility argument to keep business and the bond markets on side. They will play ball - creating an environment in which investment and growth will occur. More income to the Exchequer.

It has not hurt him in the election that he broke a promise about the deficit.

May be wishful thinking.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 09/05/2015 19:43

grovel - they will cut through ideology. They'll also piss money up the wall on vanity projects that will be a millstone for years. And more than anything the bond markets and business may settle for a bit but the spectres of an EU 'deal' and referendum plus the bribes thrown to Scotland will continue to create uncertainty.
They are going to find this much harder than they think.

BettyCatKitten · 09/05/2015 19:50

Hurrah Electra!
Well said!

LotusLight · 09/05/2015 19:50

As socialists are not in power we retain freedom of speech and right to post on other threads. I have said I fully understand how upset people will be just as many of us on the right were not happy the last time Labour got in.

Bursarymum · 09/05/2015 19:56

Oh yes, the leaky portacabins - I remember them too!

BettyCatKitten · 09/05/2015 19:57

Hmm, I wonder where the influx of DC supporters have suddenly come fromHmm
