To think that if you voted Conservative you won't admit to it?

My Facebook thread is chocca-block with 'anti Conservative'/country ruined/heath to the NHS' posts. Yet nobody has piped up to cheer that the Conservatives are winning.

AIBU to think that with such a majority, probabilities would suggest that a large proportion of my friends (in the loosest sense of the word)voted conservative but are sitting on their hands?

Yes, I do remember being called a cunt for voting Tory YEARS ago!

JohnFarleysRuskin · 08/05/2015 17:17

Houseguests, we're all in our forties too- hasn't stopped the vitriol!

chandalier · 08/05/2015 17:19

toomany yes we are just older, wiser and much more polite!

comingintomyown · 08/05/2015 17:24

Agree the fuck fuck etc thread is quite astonishing and it can surely only be mostly student MNers posting !

I agree with those who say perhaps a global perspective would be useful for some , I don't think that sets a low bar but would help some people get a grip

tobysmum77 · 08/05/2015 17:25

I will admit to it. Round here more people voted tory than anything else so I can't be alone Wink . Perhaps conservative voters consider it vulgar to publicly discuss their political beliefs hahaha Grin .

I'm blue and proud Grin but yes I agree my Facebook is full of anti-Tory sentiment.

siscaza · 08/05/2015 17:26

Oh and the area I live in has been Tory for 91 years Shock

magimedi · 08/05/2015 17:29

I've asked the question of MNHQ about their silence today on a thread in Site Stuff.

I have Selfish's permisson to quote her.

I'm happily married but just love Cammy Blush

notasillysausage · 08/05/2015 17:33

Happy to admit it Smile

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 17:43

I like him too very much, Chandalier. He is so respectful towards Sam and alwyas remains calm and gracious. My kind of man!

FatAli · 08/05/2015 17:43

I have been quite shocked at some of the ignorant name calling on MN today over the election, not doing the left wingers any favours at all.

I thought MNers were generally more intelligent and capable of reasoned debate, but many of the posters today have made me think twice and the aggression has really put me off.

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 17:44

Well done magi Smile

silveroldie2 · 08/05/2015 17:58

I'm old, poor, disabled and voted for the Tories Shock.

Actually, some of the posts from the Tory haters are so ridiculous that all you can do is laugh at their absurd lies and spin. I'm surprised none of us have horns sprouting from our heads Grin.

outtolunchagain · 08/05/2015 18:01

I have been on mumsnet since 2002 and this is the third election but I have never seen the levels of ignorant vitriol and melodrama on here before , yes people have got heated and debate has been fierce but this time I have been truly appalled .

There are threads taking about people having blood on their hands and others talking of leaving the country .I have been very very shocked .I am definitely reconsidering whether this is the kind of site I want to be involved with .Hmm

that name calling and finger pointing just serves to alienate people who might otherwise consider hopping the fence.

Exactly.

formerbabe · 08/05/2015 19:18

I voted Tory...they were the least worst choice for me.

pippydoo · 08/05/2015 19:19

I'm an NHS worker and not rich and happy to admit I voted tory

Bodicea · 08/05/2015 19:34

I work for the nhs and am happy to admit I vote Tory if asked but I once said in the staffroom how I was a Tory voter and the reception I got was frosty.
I wouldn't dream of being nasty to a labour supporter but labour supporters can be really quite nasty and obnoxious with their views.

MeggyMooAndTinkerToo · 08/05/2015 19:39

I voted Tory as did DH and our three adult children. Some of the comments I've read on here today have been disgusting. However, a lot I read on here is never said or happens in RL. I've come to the conclusion Mumsnet is
a different cyber universe.

We'll I have worked under labour and Tory in a front line clinical role. And it was pretty grim under labour. Loads of money spent but not in the right places - lots of useless middle management and pen pusher jobs created which have been really hard to get rid of. Lots of locums ( mostly Australian ) earning a fortune off the back of the nhs ( we are talking £40-50k on entry level jobs). Most of the locums went with Tory.
Yes money is tighter under Tory but the nhs was at least ring fenced. The problem is money is tight and the population is aging and living longer - that will be a problem under any government.
I don't really like the way I am treated in the nhs. I am in a clinical role with no Chance of earning any more wherever I go as it's the same pay everywhere ( except of course in Scotland where my role gets a grade higher - got to love those whingeing scots but that's another thread) so maybe private would introduce a bit of competition and I might get fairer pay.
I also just have Tory values in general and those aren't going to go away just because is chose healthcare as a proffesion.
