To think that if you voted Conservative you won't admit to it?

My Facebook thread is chocca-block with 'anti Conservative'/country ruined/heath to the NHS' posts. Yet nobody has piped up to cheer that the Conservatives are winning.

AIBU to think that with such a majority, probabilities would suggest that a large proportion of my friends (in the loosest sense of the word)voted conservative but are sitting on their hands?

Yes Autumn we're all heartless bastards.

Or maybe we think having a wishlist of worthy objectives doesn't count if you can't do the sums to pay for them.

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 14:13

Yay Kitty how fab!! Grin

Virye signalling #3 :

" I would happily pay more tax"..........secure in the knowledge they'll never be asked to Wink

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 14:13

*virtue doh!

Moonatic · 08/05/2015 14:14

"Tory voters are keeping quiet because most of them understand very well that the criticism directed at them is in fact fair. They know full well that they are voting for more food banks, fewer women's shelters, more homelessness, the bedroom tax, selling off the NHS and higher education, and appalling treatment of asylum seekers. Who would want to publicise this?"

Perfect example of virtue-signalling. Grin

hellsbellsmelons · 08/05/2015 14:15

Hahahah AutumnMadness
And again a point has been proved!
Dig away people, dig away!

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 14:15

And a completely vile individual to anyone who disagrees with you, drexa. Brilliant article - could have been written for MN Lefties Grin.

grannytomine · 08/05/2015 14:15

I'm a floating voter, this time I voted Conservative. This is because we had an excellent MP and I wanted her to be re-elected and she was.

Flingingmelon · 08/05/2015 14:15

Im a secret Tory mainly because I can't stand being lectured by left wing people. If you fight back you just get called a facist anyway. Go google that would you?

It's nice to be able to admit it Smile
It's

AutumnMadness · 08/05/2015 14:15

Nah, sometimes there is just no virtue to signal. Hiding in a corner with an air of quiet dignity way does not make one virtuous in itself.

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 14:15

No granny - it's because you are a selfish cunty dupe who hates the poor and stabs babies for fun.

HTH.

Abloodybigholeintheground · 08/05/2015 14:20

Oddly enough I have found the reverse. Plenty of Labour voters filling facebook with "Down with the Tories" propaganda up until last night. They have all gone oddly quiet this morning. But I am seeing lots of others quietly congratulating the Tories or professing their support. And shock horror-some of the people aren't even rich! I voted Conservative too and am not ashamed to say so.

KittyLovesPaintingOhYes · 08/05/2015 14:21

The irony is I spent years voting Labour in safe Tory seats (Peter Lilley, anyone?) it's the first time in my life I feel my vote has actually made a difference. May definitely have to keep my head down at the school gate.

On the subject of Worthyness, does anyone remember the extremely worthy policy of giving Agency workers the same rights as permanent staff? That went well, until some wag invented zero hours contracts instead to get round it. Beware of the Law of Unintended Consequences.

AutumnMadness · 08/05/2015 14:21

I know, Kitty, that's just scandalous, valuing human life more than cash in already full pockets.

glittertits · 08/05/2015 14:21

I think the fact that large amounts of left wing voters (not all) are happy to dish out the most appalling abuse to Tory voters is one reason the polls got it so wrong

ACCURATE!

DameCatrionaSnidelyGoads · 08/05/2015 14:22

I voted Tory

I'm not ashamed.

I voted Tory to elect a woman to parliament, and to keep a UKIP penis out of Westminster

Between us 25,754 succeeded in that aim.

I would have preferred Ed Miliband as PM to Cameron, but it was out of my hands.

hellsbellsmelons · 08/05/2015 14:23

I didn't hide in a corner.
I went out and exercised my right to vote for the party I thought it best to vote for.
I haven't had a go at anyone who voted for another party.
That is up to them. Their right.
I haven't called anyone a cunt for voting for who they believe is the right party for their own reasons.
I would never 'rub in peoples faces' if their choice of party weren't the winners.
All this abusive crap just proves to me that I chose correctly.

hellsbellsmelons · 08/05/2015 14:24

Oh I wish I had full pockets.
But I can survive day to day thanks to the Tories.
I would struggle sooo much more with Labour in power. It really is that simple.

KittyLovesPaintingOhYes · 08/05/2015 14:24

What Hells said

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 08/05/2015 14:26

What Hells said. With bells on Smile

bensam · 08/05/2015 14:29

Another conservative voter here although up until this thread I wouldn't have dared admitted it on MN!

Lindy2 · 08/05/2015 14:30

I think the different parties generally have different types of voters. Not in terms of policies but in terms of how vocal they are.
My own political poll is:

  • UKIP - very loud
  • SNP and Labour - loud
  • Lib Dems - fairly quiet (probably due to small numbers )
  • Conservatives - quiet
That is all a bit tongue in cheek obviously but I think this election has shown that just because you make a lot of noise it doesn't mean that everyone agrees with you.
ExitPursuedByABear · 08/05/2015 14:30

All these people bemoaning the outcome and saying it is undemocratic. It would be a different story if Labour had achieved what the Tories had.

I wouldn't have been able to open MN because of all the gloating.

Very suprised at the Tory gains in Wales though....

DameCatrionaSnidelyGoads · 08/05/2015 14:30

I don't think the sky is going to fall down the NHS is doomed.

Kitty - the people who voted Conservative yesterday are getting older and sicker, and a majority them cannot afford to go private, even if they wanted to.

Political parties don't alienate the people who most likely to re-elect them.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 08/05/2015 14:32

I voted Tory and here I am admitting it.

KittyLovesPaintingOhYes · 08/05/2015 14:33

I keep going back and re-checking our local result, the previous incumbent had been in for 18 years! Whatever side of the debate you're on you have to be pleased that voting can change things, nobody gets shot, the army doesn't take over, the losers don't have to flee for their lives...

I enjoyed the last big shake up, now I'm enjoying this one. It is possible to change your views in the light of new life experiences.
