To think changing your tampon in a gym change room is a bit foul?

I was at the gym earlier today, getting changed after my shower in the change room while chatting to a friend. A woman came out of the showers wrapped in her towel. Before my friend and I knew what was happening, she had whipped out her tampon and put it in the bin!

Actually, it might be more hygienic than changing in a toilet - straight to washing hands in sink rather than unlocking and opening a cubical door.

CotedePablo · 05/05/2015 21:51

Hmm, not sure I'd be too bothered about this, but I'd probably wonder if the person had boundary issues.

Can I have a PM too? Think I've heard about this actress before, but can't for the life of me remember who.

flabbyducks · 05/05/2015 21:52

Eeek pressed wrong button before I corrected auto spell your name
You don't need to subject everybody to seeing it
Jesus can you imagine everyone doing it - vom

hotfuzzra · 05/05/2015 21:53

Secondly and I really hope I win mumsnet today a prisoner once threw her dirty sanitary towel at my face. I just moved in time but it landed business-side-down on my clothes.

SnookyWookyWooWoo · 05/05/2015 21:55

Ewww dirty little scratter!

I cant even do that standing so have to get in all sorts of odd positions so Id hate to have to do that in front of people!

Was she a beardy weirdy hippy type lol?

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 05/05/2015 22:07

I reckon the famous tampon thrower was Keira Knightley Wink.

whois · 05/05/2015 22:08

Tampon changing should be done in private!

I once saw a guy and a girl having a screaming match after getting off the night bus back to uni halls. She whipped out her tampon and threw it at him (she was wearing a skirt). It missed. And landed with a splat quite near me!

ThatBloodyWoman · 05/05/2015 22:09

I think an element of it is just the sheer arrogance and audacity involved in doing something she might reasonably expect to be distasteful and even offensive to the other users of the changing room.

frankie001 · 05/05/2015 22:09

Can I have my first ever mn pm please dame?

QueenArseClangers · 05/05/2015 22:24

Ooooh me please for a PM too Dame

MamaLazarou · 05/05/2015 22:30

I too would love a PM if it's not too much trouble, please.

Though, having thought about it, i think I'm with Bogey here: it wouldn't gross me out at all. It's nowhere near as disgusting as spitting in the street or clipping your nails on public transport.

scarletforya · 05/05/2015 22:31

Please can I have a pm too Dame thank you!

snowglobemouse · 05/05/2015 22:31

I'm with bogey here. It'd certainly make me think 'oh!' but I don't find it disgusting or dirty or whatever.

would love a pm too please!

Koalafications · 05/05/2015 22:33

That is disgusting.

Someone in the gym will have to empty that bin and I don't think they should have to see that!

[boak]

snowglobemouse · 05/05/2015 22:42

what's so offensive about seeing a used tampon though? they don't empty the bins with their mouths

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 05/05/2015 22:44

I don't want a PM but I will speculate wildly instead.

HBC?

msgrinch · 05/05/2015 22:44

My vagina just cringed. That's vile. yanbu. on no universe are you unreasonable. oh dear.

Koalafications · 05/05/2015 22:47

No, but it's like going into the toilet after someone has had a massive dump and not bothered to flush, it's unnessary and grim.

What if son emptying the bin it fell on the floor? They would have to pick it up... Grim!

Koalafications · 05/05/2015 22:47

*what if on emptying

lurkingaround · 05/05/2015 22:48

Have to say my reflex response is eeewwww.

I'm trying to logic out my response, it's a natural thing after all, why am I so squeamish? I think it's instinct. Some things are instinctively more private. More personal. It's our instinct not to have sex in public, not to wee in public. (Nothing really unsanitary about either of those) By and large these conventions are broken only when our defences are down e.g. disinhibited from alcohol or other drugs.

So I still think eeewww.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 05/05/2015 22:49

There is nothing skanky or disgusting with periods themselves, it is completely unacceptable to behave this way in a shared changing room FFS. I wouldn't expect to see someone wiping their bum and I wouldn't expect this behaviour either.
I'm failing to understand why there's people remotely buying into this as OK.
Change your tampon in the toilet, it is that simple.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 05/05/2015 22:50

Unless your body is expelling something edible other people don't want to see the evidence of it in public.

fulltothebrim · 05/05/2015 22:51

Seeing it wouldn't bother me, it's the fact that it is noy hygienic. Full tampons can drip blood, or have small clots on the end of it which may drop onto the floor. Taking a tampon out over a toilet or tissue wil stop the spead of blood. Blood can spread nasty diseases, Hepatitus or worse.

Bakeoffcake · 05/05/2015 22:51

It is dirty to whip out a tampon infront of other people. How did she know she wasn't going to leak everywhere when she'd done it or the tampon wouldn't drip?

You shouldn't inflict your bloody tampon on other people.

ToBeeOrNot · 05/05/2015 22:53

If there was as much blood on a used plaster as on a tampon I'd probably be taking myself to A&E!

I suspect some of the variation in response may be relative to the expected saturation of said tampon.
