To feel sorry for anyone with a new baby named Charlotte?

It's a popular name anyway but is it set for the number 1 spot?

And will Mum be privy to a lifetime of "oh you named her after the princess"

Well I assume they picked the name as they liked it so surely if anything they should see it as a compliment.

It's always been a popular name so can't see it making a lot of difference

I don't think no they need you to feel sorry for them. They have lovely squishy newborns and have presumably chosen a name they like. The new princess is going to have nothing to do with them, so no reason why it should have any effect on their lives.

I dont think it'll matter. My Mother named me after Jackie Kennedy and there are loads of Jackie's born in the 60's. I quite like telling people that's where my name comes from.

Well they had to name the baby something! What ever name they'd chosen, there would be others who had chosen the same name, wouldn't there? I don't think it matters really.

Meh. it's just a name. Give it a few weeks and nobody will even make a connection.

No-one will remember or make a connection. It's a very common name so not like it'll stand out.

The royal baby name options were pretty limited.

It was never going to be Princess Sharon!

If you've chosen to give your daughter a 'regal' name in the last few weeks it was always a risk but is really a big deal.

It is just a lovely name, very popular, and so I can't see why it makes a difference. (It would if it was something odd or very different and then people would be thought to have copied.)

agree with sparklingbrook... think the connection will last a few weeks, months maybe. my cousin had a charlotte in march and she Is delighted that her daughter shares a name with and was born in the same year as a princess! bet all the elizabeths born the same year as the queen love telling people that!

YABU. My grandmother was born the same week as the Queen and was called Elizabeth. She said no one's ever remarked on it.

Why are people getting their knickers in a twist because the baby's called Charlotte? She was always going to have a traditional name. She was never going to be Peekaboo Twinkletoes.

I honestly don't see it's an issue. If we have another daughter we will call her Charlotte. I'm not changing my mind because of this. I actually think a lot of people will steer clear of the name because they are irrationally worried about it and that it will become less popular.

I know someone who had a George about 10 days before Prince George came along. It was really only a topic of conversation for about 30 seconds. By the time autumn rolled around people stopped making the connection. Her little George just carried on as normal. It's such a non issue.

I had it for a while after DS was born, all I got was "ooh named after the prince" when I had picked the name 5 months before the prince was born.
Very annoying but it's stopped now Grin
I often wonder if people are thinking it still but just not saying

Yes yes but Wills and Katie really wanted to call the lovely girl 'Princess Chardonnay' which is much more regal IMO

Charlotte was number 21 in the top 100 names in 2013.

Anyone naming their child Charlotte is unlikely to be overly concerned about it being too popular, surely?

You are being a bit silly to think people need others feeling sorry for them because they happen to have a child with the same name as a princess.

No I don't think people will make the connection.
I know lots of harrys, Williams and George's and I never think oh you are name after the royal princes.

Charlotte is a nice name, not unusual, just traditional.

My DD was born just after the silver jubilee, and when the midwives asked if we'd chosen a name, I can remember telling them the (royal) name we'd picked and then almost yelling - 'And it's got nothing to do with the jubilee - we picked it ages ago..!' Grin

Makes not an iota of difference - and I still like DD's name.....

Names like George and Charlotte are pretty mainstream, traditional and common.

Nobody is going to make any connection.
