To feel sorry for anyone with a new baby named Charlotte?

It's a popular name anyway but is it set for the number 1 spot?

And will Mum be privy to a lifetime of "oh you named her after the princess"

I don't think it's an issue either.
TBH, I don't think the royal family is as popular or as influential as people think it is on this forum. That's the impression I get from people I know, and from other forums.

My DS2 has the same first name as a member of the royal family who is much older than him. He wasn't consciously named after him but people, especially Americans, sometimes ask if he was (even though his name was quite popular when he was born and hardly an obscure choice!)

if you like any quite traditional English name, the chances are the royals have used it at some point. It's not something I would really worry about, especially with a name like Charlotte which was already very popular and familiar.

On my list of people to feel sorry for, parents of new born Charlottes are very low down.

Seriously, it won't even be on most people's radar in a few weeks after all the fuss is over. I'm sure there were tons of Annes born the same year as Princess Anne, and Edwards born the same year as the Prince etc etc. They're just names of their time just as George and Charlotte are popular names of the early twenty first century.

Charlotte was, is and will continue to be a lovely name; it's popular yes but that's because it's a nice name!

YABU to feel sorry for them and have way too much time on your hands if you are fretting about this! Grin

I'm pretty sure that all the 33 year old blokes called William don't get asked if they were named after Prince William!Grin
In fact, I'm sure all the 2 year old Georges don't get asked that either.
People forget and move on.

Christ almighty, the actual horrible things going on in the world, children in Nepal dying in Earthquakes, ebola, sodding everything, and THIS shit is what people choose to feel sorry for people about?

nobody fucking cares what anyone elses offspring is called! what is wrong with people?

DS2 is George and was born 2 years before the Royal George and the only recognition he got was the day they named their George when I had folk texting me (we were in Mexico) saying they'd stolen my baby name. My names are Charlotte Elizabeth, so I had another dozen texts on Sunday announcing Will and Kate were probably stalking our family. I'd like to think so, we're right ruffians, swilling down prosecco at 2pm on a bank holiday.

A name is just a name. Nobody will make any connection once the first couple of weeks are over.

I do wonder if there were fewer Alice's registered than usual for the past few weeks as it was believed to be the dead cert name if the royal baby was a girl.

I don't think the Registrars publish anything more than the annual numbers of names registered, so we'll probably never know.

I know someone with a George and a Charlotte, she's taking it as a compliment that the royals share her taste! Her Charlotte is nearly in secondary school but George was born around just a few months before the prince.
