Slippers, a faded towelling dressing gown, a scrunchie & big soppy grin.
Like most new mums.

Must be grim having her hair & makeup done.

Just seen the pics in the DM and she, of course, looks fab. Would love to have a hairdresser on standby at all times Grin

drbonnieblossman · 02/05/2015 19:19

compo um, she has certainly done a day's work - pre-royalty and ops.

Do people actually believe the Royals sit on their arses all day and get served high tea?

AuntieStella · 02/05/2015 19:20

Pretty sure Diana had a hairdresser visit the hospital too.

And the secret to no breakthrough bleeding is

a) spend time vertical, so gravity has have plenty of time to do its stuff, and
b) daisy doll pants plus changing maternity pads immediately before walking out.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/05/2015 19:20

I expect they got in the car and she turned to William and screeched "Get me home fucking fast. I've got clots the size of an elephant's liver dropping into my pants and it's not going to be pretty." Grin

MistressMerryWeather · 02/05/2015 19:20

I had very little bleeding after ds2.

I wouldn't have had the guts to wear white though. :o

squoosh · 02/05/2015 19:21

I think a lot of her days are spent sitting having a nice time, yes

DirtyBlonde · 02/05/2015 19:21

Perhaps we need a lip reader to tell us if the little comments between the Duke and Duchess were actually included 'something's just landed in my pants, get me out of here now'

PrimalLass · 02/05/2015 19:23

Doing it yourself would be the last thing you wanted to do!

First baby = I looked a state. I saw the pictures.

Second baby = I took my straighteners and makeup in.

BrianButterfield · 02/05/2015 19:23

Look at the photos of Diana leaving hospital - she definitely got primped and preened in hospital, her hair is massive!

SirChenjin · 02/05/2015 19:24

Just had a look at Daisy Doll pants - very good idea, never heard of them but they look great. Would they stand up to the post partum blood tsunami though - they're very dainty. Changing maternity pads immediately before walking out is probably the answer.

ComposHatComesBack · 02/05/2015 19:25

Really as what? She's certainly has never held down a full time job either pre or post marriage.

Even pre children she was pretty low on the list of royal engagements and no I don't think unveiling a plaque or shaking hands with a few lifeboat crews counts as work.

I have to say I find it depressing that in 2015she's lauded for having achieved nothing more than marrying a wealthy husband, wearing nice frocks and having functioning ovaries.

BeaufortBelle · 02/05/2015 19:26

I had the first baby in London on New Year's Day - many years ago. The press arrived at 7.30am the following morning and the midwives pressed me hard to be photographed for the rags. I said "no way"; they got stroppy, although they got him with a midwife. I do not have my picture taken after one hour of sleep, no make-up and hair that needs attention; least of all do I have that picture published in the national and local press. I declined £1000 for the honour.

When I eventually left the hospital I my hair was done, my make-up was on and I had decent clothes on, albeit navy blue ones (but it was January !). I don't go anywhere unless I look presentable.

I think they looked a lovely family full of warmth and love and that Kate got it exactly right. I bet she isn't wearing that dress now and is curled up in the corner of a sofa somewhere in trackies and a teeshirt, breastfeeding earnestly just like the rest of us. I hope she's got a few good dvds and has given George a huge cuddle and read him a story.

Congratulations! You don't know, she might even be having a sneaky Mnet when William isn't looking. She came out looking proud and they all looked wonderfully happy. I think William is lucky to have her and the Midds and that their children are lucky to have a bit of normal red blood running through their veins.

ScorpioMermaid · 02/05/2015 19:26

When I had my last one it was a 6 hour discharge and the only things I had were my clean pjs, cheapo silky dressing gown and my birkenstock sandals. We stopped on the way to pop the into letter to the Dr's surgery and it was easier for me to get out being on a main road so I went into the surgery in my pjs. I think everyone including the receptionist thought I was batshit! Grin

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 02/05/2015 19:27

I'm not Btitish. But the photos are in my Facebook feed.
She looks chic and elegant, but I just love the radiant look on her face. Good luck to them all.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2015 19:29

Will we be here in 2017 discussing another one do you think? DS2 has just asked. Grin

ScorpioMermaid · 02/05/2015 19:29

I mean.. 'pop the letter into the...' Confused

stuckonchapterone · 02/05/2015 19:29

Nope, she left with a fresh blow dry, full face of make up, and immaculate clothing. What a realistic image for to be mothers to aspire to, not!

SirChenjin · 02/05/2015 19:30

Compo - enough of your cynicism. She worked p/t as a buyer for her friends who own Jigsaw and took photos for the Party Pieces catalogue. She was exhausted most of the time, poor lamb. Still, she has said that she'll be taking a longer maternity leave this time - she felt that going back to work waving at crowds 2 months after George was born was too soon.

MistressMerryWeather · 02/05/2015 19:34

What would you prefer her to do Sir?

BrianButterfield · 02/05/2015 19:34

Does anyone - whose living doesn't rely on being photographed - actually aspire to that though? Or do some people just like to put some make up on while others don't care about it? Looking nice isn't a moral issue, you know. It's her choice and as a result of making that choice she lives rather nicely, thank you. Other women make that choice to make themselves feel better. Each to their own.

SirChenjin · 02/05/2015 19:35

I have absolutely no preference whatsoever Mistress.

TheOriginalWinkly · 02/05/2015 19:35

She looked much happier today than when she left the hospital with Prince George, I thought she looked terribly anxious and uncomfortable then (understandably - I was terrified taking my pfb to tesco when she was 5 days old).

Some women don't bleed that much. I left hospital in jersey maxi dress with navy and cream stripes (big wide bands) and had no fear of gushing. I didn't look glowy and radiant though. MIL later informed me I looked 'rather ill'.

MistressMerryWeather · 02/05/2015 19:38

I find people who are super critical of her rarely do.

I am far from a royalist but I just don't get the lazy duchess stuff.

thornrose · 02/05/2015 19:39

My first argument with MIL was about my "going home" outfit. I had on jogging bottoms, T shirt and cardigan. It was my first child I was overwhelmed and hadn't thought about wearing something "nice"! (DP stepped in to defend me and I loved him even more!)

She was horrified and said that the neighbours would want to come out and meet the baby. I should dress up for it!

We got out of the cab and no-one even noticed us. Grin

If the world's press had been waiting then hell yes I would've had my hair and make up done.

SirChenjin · 02/05/2015 19:40

Do you find that? Oh well, never mind - I certainly don't. Try not to 'get' it and just accept others feel differently to you.
