Slippers, a faded towelling dressing gown, a scrunchie & big soppy grin.
Like most new mums.

Must be grim having her hair & makeup done.

White and yellow and nude heels? Why not be a bit more normal?

MeggyMooAndTinkerToo · 02/05/2015 18:17

coper. Well that's your experience and certainly wasn't mine. Most people I know and on the ward did their hair and put make up on to leave. I did the same after all three.

LIZS · 02/05/2015 18:17

Didn't like the dress, vpl!

squoosh · 02/05/2015 18:17

I'd much prefer to have my hair and makeup done! Doesn't sound grim at all.

AuntyMag10 · 02/05/2015 18:18

Then I guess it's just the people you know.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 02/05/2015 18:19

Oops I left in pjs and slippers! I was discharged early and h couldn't get to me on time so my mum picked me up and she didn't have access to our house. I was just so desperate to leave the hospital that I didn't care.

AuntyMag10 · 02/05/2015 18:19

Agree with MeggyMoo. I had my hair done before and applied makeup too. That seems normal to me.

CoperCabana · 02/05/2015 18:19

Meggy, as I said you were lucky and sounds like your friends were.

She chose to marry the future King of England with all that it entails, and from what I can see she seems to perfectly happy with her life.

"Having" to have someone do your hair all swooshy for a quick photo op isn't the end of the world. I don't think she needs our pity.

CoperCabana · 02/05/2015 18:22

Aaah, they look over the moon.

ScotsWhaHae · 02/05/2015 18:22

Is this what society demands? A woman perfectly presented ten hours after giving birth? She was probably so uncomfortable I bet she can't wait to get home and comfortable.

DocHollywood · 02/05/2015 18:25

Absolutely Harpy. I hope she wore heels because she wanted to, not because she'd be vilified in the media for not putting together a decent outfitHmm

iliketea · 02/05/2015 18:26

Bloody hell - dd's 5 yo and I still don't look as good as Kate did leaving the hospital!! Grin

Charlotte3333 · 02/05/2015 18:26

Ahh I think they looked lovely, and frankly, wouldn't have cared what she wore, new babies always make me all swoony. She looked wonderful for someone who gave birth less than 12 hours earlier, good on her. I'm sure if she hadn't wanted to make an effort they could've gone out another way and refused to face the cameras. They seem very willing to stop, pose and quickly move on. It means the press won't hound them for the first special picture and they can get back to life sooner.

With DS1 I was a mess leaving hospital. With DS2 I had showered, done my hair and makeup and stopped off at school to collect DS1 with the new baby. Number 2 often seems easier.

Thurlow · 02/05/2015 18:29

Good for her, she looked very healthy so soon after giving birth. But then lots of women do have good and easy births, especially for second and third births.

Loved the dress, actually.

I reckon it feels like a sensible trade off to her, doing this quick appearance now. She well knew what life would be like when she decided to marry William. So get someone to quickly do your hair and make up, stand outside for three minutes waving, then go home and hide for next month or two. It is a public role, so it's probably easier to agree to these prearranged appearances and then get left in peace for a while.

Silvercatowner · 02/05/2015 18:32

Pity? She's as privileged as it gets. Feel sorry for the sprog though.

limitedperiodonly · 02/05/2015 18:33

So you're asking her to uphold your standards OP?

That's as oppressive as expecting her to be primped.

Cantdecideondinner · 02/05/2015 18:35

I looked acceptable every time. Nice clean top, non maternity stretchy trousers, full makeup and straightened hair, had my nails, both fingers and toes done each time on due date too. I never slobber around after giving birth. I felt better by being presentable

CoperCabana · 02/05/2015 18:36

Just realised this is in AIBU. Am off.

Tiredemma · 02/05/2015 18:36

I thought she looked lovely.

WhetherOrNot · 02/05/2015 18:37

She looks fabulous (and so does he!). They are a lovely family and I wish them well.

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 02/05/2015 18:38

I feel sorry for her too tbh. I don't care how priveledged you are, standing in front of of the world's media in a white dress, holding your newborn when you feel the most protective by nature, is the LAST thing I'd want to do 12 hours after giving birth. But I guess that's the price she has to pay so that they can escape to the privacy of their own home. It's not a life I would want.

AuntyMag10 · 02/05/2015 18:38

She looks absolutely radiant.

nancy75 · 02/05/2015 18:38

She knows that (unless something massive happens tonight) her photo is going to be on the front page of every national newspaper tomorrow. In that position I would want my hair and face done too. I looked ok when I had dd, but if the worlds press had been outside I would have made more of an effort.
