To be offended by the use of this word in many threads?

I am new to MN and tbh I am shocked by the regular use of the C word in many threads, using it as a term of abuse for (very often) men who have behaved appalingly towards their partners. It's not that I am against swearing in general, it just seems odd that a community of forward thinking supportive women would choose to use a word that actually means a normal, natural, sacred part of female anatomy to describe such vile and reprehensible men. Can anyone think of a creative alternative word to use instead?

Just reminds me of young teenagers trying to look good by swearing but in fact look/sound pathetic,
But each to their own, im just saying I would/could never use it

Ooh yes I forgot about twat Twart. Grin

'Is Mike Hunt here?' 'Is Mike Hunt here?'

Pedestriana · 01/05/2015 23:25

I don't see it as being a problem. If you want to call a cunt a cunt, call it a cunt. If you want to call a horrible person a cunt, then do so.

A cunt can be very flexible - literally and figuratively. Fuck is equally malleable; "Fuck you!" is quite strange as an insult as fucking is generally a pleasurable activity.

How about 'growler' as an alternative?

I also like to think that by women using the word we are re-owning it.

I remember the first time it was on the television, we tuned in just to see it. It was channel 4 but I don't remember the program.

LuluJakey1 · 01/05/2015 23:27

My granny called it a tutti-frutti

ouryve · 01/05/2015 23:31

I'm thinking the OP has gone back to its cave to dwell on cuntry matters (yes, that was in the O-level English syllabus, thanks to old Wills)

SilverBirch2015 · 01/05/2015 23:32

I like keeping cunt as my very worse word to use in extremis. A sacred swear word if you like, for times when nothing else will do the job adequately.

I don't see it as the same as the term to describe mine or anyone else's fragrant parts.

Use of the words Dick or Cock are also all about the context, words that have different meanings such as lace (shoe or fancy needlwork) or foot (a meàsurement or something you put your sock on).

Their entomology may be the same but no need to see them as mysogonistic IMO.

I don't mind the word cunt, I'll use it when the situation calls for it. I prefer cuntfart over brainfart. Sometimes it's the only word that aptly describes twatbadgering fuckwits. It's shorter for starters...

chipsandpeas · 01/05/2015 23:43

in scotland (mainly glasgow) cunt is a everyday term as in

that cunt is a good guy

i love the word....mainy due to the shockable value in everday language so my philosopy is use it more and recliam it to being a everyday word rather being a negative word

SiobhanSharpe · 01/05/2015 23:44

Pedant's corner here. Er, entomology is the study of insects.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 01/05/2015 23:45

I actually never use cunt IRL.

I mean the word cunt. I use my real cunt fairly often.

I'm from Canada and like a PP was a bit taken aback at first at the widespread use on here but after 12 years I've gone native.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 01/05/2015 23:47

Widespread use of the WORD, not actual cunts.

FFS I give up

maroonedwithfour · 01/05/2015 23:47

Cunt is a very powerful word and its all ours Wink

maroonedwithfour · 01/05/2015 23:47

I like twunt as a softer version

SilverBirch2015 · 01/05/2015 23:50

Whoops, at least I can spell Cunt, Dick & Cock. I'll stick with what I know best in future Blush

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 01/05/2015 23:52

I think the satisfaction of cunt and fuck is they are (iirc) made of plosives consonants that are very pleasurable and lip smacking orally speaking.

ByeByeButterfly · 01/05/2015 23:57

I rarely call these •men• a c*t as quite frankly c*ts are useful and most of these •men• are as useful and supportive as a ripped bra.

Having said that many people say it out of shock. The times I have said it on a thread is to show how beyond the pale this person is being. Not just bad but vile [whicj is a favourite word of mine to describe these people].

As in they are so bad I use the most offensive of words to avuse them with if that makes sense.

I'm not a chest beating feminist just the average type though so it doesn't bother me.

I hope I've answered you without sounding catty like some posters have

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/05/2015 00:03

Sugarsandwich - do you make a habit of joining things and then expecting them to change to suit your sensibilities?

Different websites have different ethoses, cultures, ways of doing things. - don't you think it is rather rude - even arrogant - of you to arrive here, on a website that works bloody well, for many, many people, to tell us how wrong we are?

Do,you go into pubs/cafes/restaurants and tell the clientele already there that you don't like the manner of their conversation, so they should change to suit you? Or do you just go to a different cafe or whatever?

Websites are no different. If you don't like the way this one works, there are plenty of others that are more prudish delicate than MN - why not try them?

ByeByeButterfly · 02/05/2015 00:04

Damn sacredcunt has been taken (or sacral unit if I trust my auto correct).

I really love bastard at the moment. I just can't help meself !

SistersofPercy · 02/05/2015 00:10

Is it just me that is now envisaging the church of the sacred cunt? It could be amazing! We could sing songs in praise of the cunt, have holy days (St Fanny's day etc).
Just best leave the holy wafers I'm not a slot machine

Well bollocks to it: I don't like the word and that's that. In my youth - 1970s and 80s- every feminist felt the same. Which is that you don't use female anatomy as a derogatory term.

That is all.
