Think I'll vote Conservative.
Sorted! after days of indecision

You could argue more people use them because there are more of them and they're becoming more accessible and less stigma about using them. Using food banks as proof of poverty is silly.

AldiQ7 · 30/04/2015 22:25

Do people really vote for the economy?

Huh?

TheFairyCaravan · 30/04/2015 22:26

But what Cameron did advocate was a very much needed joint health and social care service. Which I am hugely in favour of

But Cameron has slashed the social care budget in the last 5 years.

Under his watch he has cut nurse training places by 8000 per year, so 40000 less nurses. DS2 has got into one uni where 1589 applied for 100 places.

He doesn't care about the NHS or social care.

Merse · 30/04/2015 22:27

Cameron definitely came off better tonight. Even my DH (who is a lifelong Labour supporter) had to admit it.

Sick of BS threads that read like they were written by Tory party campaigners. We got quite a few ukip ones a week ago. At least those were funny.

ElectraCute · 30/04/2015 22:29

And yes, fwiw, even as a Labour voter I don't think Ed exactly covered himself in glory either. But Cameron makes me sick to my stomach. Another five years of Tory government will mean another five years of misery for anyone who is too poor, too sick, too old, too young, too frail... I dread them getting in again.

The alternative before food banks became a thing was to not eat at all. The provision of food banks is a positive but not a true indicator of how things were before their creation.

Are you actually serious? You have to be referred to a foodbank and there is a limit to how many times you can go. You can't just pitch up for some free food. It must be humiliating and demoralising to have to use one. Using food banks as proof of poverty is spot on!

msgrinch · 30/04/2015 22:35

Foodbanks are a clear indication of poverty. It's disgusting that we even need them! I had to use one two years ago, I donated to one today (I can barely afford to), it broke my heart to see what a mess this country is in in terms of lookin after the less well off.

BigBirthdayGloom · 30/04/2015 22:35

This discussion has made me feel a little ashamed of myself. I dithered a bit in my convictions because the thought of no tax increases was really nice, thanks. I still won't vote conservative. Made me firm in that. But I'm disturbed by how dc started to convince me that if I were voting selfishly that I might be tempted. I didn't think that Ed Milliband did too well to persuade the "look after my own" voters.

Okay-less stigma about using a foodbank? Are you confusing foodbanks with budget supermarkets?

LineRunner · 30/04/2015 22:38

Cameron certainly is the more accomplished liar.

BigBirthdayGloom · 30/04/2015 22:39

There should be no stigma attached to using one, but neither can you just pop along when things are a bit tight

But outofnappies it is global capitalism that causes more and more inequality and hardship. Not socialism. I can't believe people believe the conservatives are fixing that!! But this is a bit of a lightbulb moment for me because now I can see that people actually do believe the spin.

Dawndonnaagain · 30/04/2015 23:12

Loletta I don't recall any discussions about Labour taxing DLA.

disclaimer: Not voting Labour.

Dawndonnaagain · 30/04/2015 23:17

But what Cameron did advocate was a very much needed joint health and social care service. Which he cannot deliver because he has closed the Independent Living Fund, cut back on respite care, mental health services, social services. These services are either non existent or on their knees.

grovel · 30/04/2015 23:31

Sad truth is that Cameron (to me) made EM look like a student politician.EM knows what he dislikes but clueless about how to run anything. He'll get my vote because I live in a Tory constituency but I hope the party trash him soon.

Food bank use has increased because government agencies, such as the Job Centre, are now allowed to refer people to them. Under Labour, they were not allowed to do this.

Miltonmaid · 01/05/2015 06:54

If you listen to what cameron said, he very carefully did not rule out changing chikd benefit. He said it was very important but that's it. That £12 billion has to come from somewhere, they are planning some pretty radical stuff but refuse to say what.
