Think I'll vote Conservative.
Sorted! after days of indecision

ovenchips · 30/04/2015 21:48

I care really not a lot about the individual personalities of the party leaders. Their charisma or lack of it is of no importance to me, so how they perform in something like this is of no interest.

I am interested in the policies though. Surely the rest is flim flam?

BigBirthdayGloom · 30/04/2015 21:49

And, Hillingdon, I don't think it's horrible to say that with the practical support, easy logistics and comforts that a decent income provides, it at least gives parents the ability to focus on their disabled child, put support in place to keep the family running and not panic that everything will fall apart financially. It would be truly horrible to say the emotions were easier. And wrong.

BigBirthdayGloom · 30/04/2015 21:50

Then, with every part of me that affords the Cameton family privacy, he ought to leave it out too.

The80sweregreat · 30/04/2015 21:51

Thefairycaravan, i really feel for you. I have a friend with a rare disbility, hit by the bedroom tax, not able to work, hounded by the government. Its so unfair. I dont trust any of them. At all.

TheFairyCaravan · 30/04/2015 21:51

He brought Ivan in to this. Again. It was less than 20 minutes in to the debate. If I was Sam I would be having his guts for garters for continually using him for point scoring.

RonaldMcDonald · 30/04/2015 21:53

Whilst he uses the death of his son and the sympathy and empathy people have for him to shut down debate over both the NHS and disability benefits I will continue to call bullshit on it.

If he had an idea of what ordinary people go through. How their financial circumstances make every day even more desperate in the worst of times, he would never make the choices he does.
He has no idea
If he did he would never, ever put greater strain on people who are breaking

Hillingdon · 30/04/2015 21:53

The indication is that it's been easier for him because he is well off. As though it's not so tragic. Money is not the route to happiness. People think it is. But I won't mention it again.

The80sweregreat · 30/04/2015 21:54

Yes, poor child is brought up time and again by D C. He should just leave it be.

expatinscotland · 30/04/2015 22:00

'It's stooping so low. Regardless of you opinion of DC and his policies, he had a disabled Son who sadly died at the tender age of six years old.'

HE brings him up. Often. To shut down discussion.

And I say this as the mother of a little girl who died of cancer, age 9.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 30/04/2015 22:00

I hope Labour win so they can clean up the mess the Tories have made (national debt more than doubled to £1.5 TRILLION for a start) and that's without mentioning food banks, cuts that mainly affect the poorest 10%, increased inequality almost to prewar levels and so on. I also think a coalition involving the DUP is a damn sight more worrying that one with the SNP.

As for Shiny Dave growing a pair - is that because of the "enthusiam and passion" that LC has obviously spent hours drilling into him? Reminds me of that episode of Blackadder the Third where the aristocrats take a suicide pill that makes them act really over the top and ecstatically happy with all the hammy arm gestures and sounding overexcited at the start of every sentence.

Hillingdon · 30/04/2015 22:01

Someone please tell me. Ed was very clear that there would be NO deals with the SNP who tbh would cause chaos for the rest of the UK.

Who wil he do a deal with then?

TheFairyCaravan · 30/04/2015 22:01

Thanks the80s DH still works so it's not too bad ATM. I dread to think about what would happen if he wasn't.

It's really not fair to treat the disabled and sick so badly.

expatinscotland · 30/04/2015 22:01

No, Hillingdon, the implication is that despite what happened to him, instead of having compassion for people in similar situations who might not have the access to private resources that he had, he yanks the rug out from under them. The implication is that he doesn't give a fuck. And he has proven that implication the past 5 years.

Miltonmaid · 30/04/2015 22:04

I'm guessing he means he will have a minority labour govt and rely on anti Tory parties not voting against the budget or other policies that they agree with but he wouldn't do a deal and offer them anything in return.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/04/2015 22:04

I didn't think he came across particularly well, seemed incapable of asking most of the, incredibly staged, questions directly.

The audience appeared to be an unusually dense bunch this week.

Dawndonnaagain · 30/04/2015 22:05

Hillingdon

  1. If the prime minister uses his son to shut down discussions on the NHS then the rest of us have every right to question him.
  2. There are those of us that are paid £65 quid a week for working an 18 hour day looking after our disabled loved ones. Cameron had nurses.
  3. As for your comment on the left wing audience, it's an invited audience, they balance it.
BigBirthdayGloom · 30/04/2015 22:05

It's absolutely true to say the logistics of having a disabled child and other children are easier to manage with adequate finances. That's not to be confused with anyone saying that the pain and tragedy are lessened. Not at all.
I've had a lot of dealings with the Nhs and I have jumped no queues, waited as long and not had preferential treatment. But still, when dh came to visit, he could afford to bring treats, I could download stuff onto my phone, and no one worried about my loss of income. I could afford mobility aids and a cleaner til I was on my feet again and taxis to get places. All of which meant that I could focus on what was wrong with me - debilitating as it was. And no, I am not for one minute saying that I experienced the pain of losing a child or even that I'm keen to even have the discussion. But it was the PM who raised it. And he should leave well alone.

AwayAndRunUpMaHumf · 30/04/2015 22:09

Never in my life will I vote Conservative.

BigBirthdayGloom · 30/04/2015 22:12

The audience were selected to be 25 per cent firmly decided on each of the three parties represented by their leaders tonight and 25 per cent...actually don't remember the final quarter-undecided? Anyway, unless the decided Tories had a quick mind change, the Lib Dems were particularly left of the middle or the left wing audience members were more articulate then it wasn't a biased audience.

cardibach · 30/04/2015 22:13

The 'Labour messed up the economy and caused the massive deficit' thing is rubbish, by the way. Don't take my word for it, look at this Huff post article (not written by a labour supporter): www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/ramesh-patel/growth-cameron-austerity_b_2007552.html

ShouldIworryornothelp · 30/04/2015 22:15

Tell you what. How about vote for your local candidate who will the best for your constituency regardless of party? National politics means very little when it comes down to regional spending. The pct decides how it spends it's budget, the LEA decides where to allocate funds, the council determines social care budgets... Yes central government divvy up the pot but the people who need to be held accountable for the fuck ups aren't people we have any say over. That Fucks me off more than the prospect of another debt riddled labour government.

drudgetrudy · 30/04/2015 22:19

When Cameron speaks about the NHS he is talking about acute care, of which his own experience and that of most other people is very good.
He does not factor in the Social Care that many frail elderly people need or the financial support like Carers allowance that people in a less privileged position than himself rely on. He seems happy to make cuts there.

I am sure his experience with his son was horrible and that he is thankful for the NHS but he is missing the full picture-therefore the way in which he keeps referencing it is irrelevant.
He looked pleased with himself tonight but I don't think any of them came out of it well.

ShouldIworryornothelp · 30/04/2015 22:21

But what Cameron did advocate was a very much needed joint health and social care service. Which I am hugely in favour of

I was shouting at the tv when Cameron brought up Ivan YET AGAIN in order to shut down criticism or debate about his NHS policies.

Of course losing a child is an appalling tragedy. Yet Cameron exploits that tragedy at every possible opportunity. He uses his own dead child to make political capital.

He is shameless, beyond words, beyond understanding.
