Model Gisele Bundchen "celebrates" her 20 year career by posing in the nude for the cover of Vogue Hmm Why not mark this milestone by posing in a beautiful dress?

They're all at it. Kate Moss "celebrated" turning 40 by posing for Playboy in bunny ears and tail FFS!

So it's not just desperate wannabees but 'A' listers who chose to demean all women by exposing their breasts for publicity. What message does this give to young women?

It's just a stupid spin that magazines put on their photo shoot: oh look, it's a celebration, it must be really special - go and buy our issue.

For the models it's a way to publicise they are still attractive enough to be in the industry.

BeakyMinder · 29/04/2015 08:06

Because they need the money ...

And because when advertisers make women feel shit by showing us pictures of unrealistically ideal naked women, we reward them by dutifully buying the magazines or product they are flogging. And that's how Kate Moss and co get paid.

It's simple you know - if we stopped buying, the pictures would go away and we'd all be a lot happier.

shewept · 29/04/2015 08:08

Generalisation much however

Since its her body she can do what she wants. What's demeaning is the assumption that women represent the whole gender. A woman should be able to do what's she chooses without being responsible to all women.

If a man does something, does it affect the whole gender?

shewept · 29/04/2015 08:11

I don't buy them or click or look at the photos on the internet and will definitely not add support by clicking the link.

By attaching the link for people to click, you actually make the people at the dm think that this is what brings people to their site. The more clicks, the more this stuff will appear.

I don't know any men who are attracted to the supermodel look, I always thought they looked like that because they were easier to dress or something.

Oh for goodness sake, I'm not trying to start an argument here! I was responding to peggyundercrackers.

I was making the point that just because she is posing for a women's magazine she is still espousing the beauty ideal, largely driven by what men find sexy. Or what society says is sexy. A society largely driven by men.

Of course she can do whatever she wants! I don't care if she wears nothing, or a burka.

SaucyJack · 29/04/2015 08:22

Meh. I don't really care what Giselle gets up to meself. She bores me. I don't consider her my representative just because we both have vaginas.

David Gandy has also done full-frontal nude shots btw. I Google them on a regular basis in the name of gender equality Wink

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 29/04/2015 08:26

How much air-brushing and touching-up has there been to that Vogue shot, d'you suppose?

ChaiseLounger · 29/04/2015 08:31

That's what I asked fifty.
Goes off to search David gandy - I do think he is an uber good looking man.

Mintyy · 29/04/2015 08:34

Helen Mirren did it when she turned 50.

It is so predictable apart from anything else.

SinglePringle · 29/04/2015 08:42

Anyone interested in answering my previous question as to why they find this offensive but not paintings of nudes? Is it becaus she is slim an held up as an example to some / by some?

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2015 08:54

A model female or male are show offs they spend their working and private lives yelling LOOK AT ME look how gorgeous I am please look at me .nude shots is just an extention its not supposed to be sexual or demeaning to women its supposed to be liberating and empowering or something its just another way for kate moss to get us to look at her and talk about her but disguising it as a celebration of being fab at 40 or whatever

fatlazymummy · 29/04/2015 09:21

She's a model, that's what they do. Fashion models are required to expose their breasts sometimes.(though they're free to turn down those jobs of course).
And I'd be very surprised if many men found anything remotely sexy about those photos. Posing for fashion magazines and posing for mens magazines are 2 totally different things, as Tyra Banks demonstrated on ANTM.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2015 09:27

Yy I cant see many men buying vougue to see breasts.maybe women should stop buying vogue and these models wouldnt exist women buy fashion women buy beauty products these pictures are aimed at women not men

FlaviaAlbia · 29/04/2015 09:30

One women's actions demean all women?!

I don't even know where to start with that. I dislike the objectification of women although I will defend her right to do as she likes with her own body but that statement makes my skin crawl.

Doesn't the history of western art have quite a few boobs in it, not to mention a penis or two? And, I gather, that on at least one Indian temple, there's a bloke doing something unspeakable to a horse.

Maybe the Puritans were right about art.

SinglePringle · 29/04/2015 10:20

I know a couple of models. They are not show offs and don't demand everyone looks at them. You'd never know their jobs. They just photograph like a dream and are tall and slender.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2015 10:20

Its about beauty and the female form its supposed to be arty

Women are depicted as being there to look decorative and sexy

Now, you mean? Adonis is always nude. It's supposed to be attractive.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2015 10:26

Of course they are show offs they are slender and tall and like people taking pictures of them many tall and slender women wandering about and they are not models tbf I didnt say there was anything wrong with modeling but they are not exactly wallflowers being confident and a show off isnt a negative thing
