Scottish identity

Do you feel you have one?

If you're not Scottish living in Scotland, do you think there is a Scottish identity?

Yes, the cons don't seem to have been too curtailed by being in a coalition.

I think the SNP wielding any power is a major national emergency....

starwarslegoboy · 27/04/2015 21:01

If there is a Con-Lab pact, that will be writing the next referendum. I can't see it happening myself though

SirChenjin · 27/04/2015 21:04

I'm not going back to quote the very many complaints of being disillusioned with being Scottish/not feeling Scottish anymore

I'm not asking you to quote those complaints. I'm asking you to explain why you believe many of the No voters are being huffy and anti Scottish. You can't. And so enough.

I can't see a Tory/Labour coalition. I think it will be a UK Labour minority Govt with the SNP at Holyrood, and bargaining on a case by case basis. Which is not a bad thing imo.

PacificDogwood · 27/04/2015 21:07

Well, the bookies predict a Labour minority government Grin

chocoluvva · 27/04/2015 21:09

No English posters or non-English people resident in England who identify as English or feel there is an English identity?

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 27/04/2015 21:09

My chicken bones were right after all - better get down to Ladbrokes with my 20 quid Grin

starwarslegoboy · 27/04/2015 21:10

Ah thought you were off. I can explain. I have read the thread. And many other threads. And the tone of some No posters is huffy and petulant. And you won! And no matter how many times you try to grind me down, I'm still going to say the same thing. But maybe you can all be jolly happy from now on and prove me wrong!

JackSkellington · 27/04/2015 21:11

Interestingly, just in relation to financial services as I work in this sector too, most of us in my dept voted yes. One person voted no but it wasn't an issue, no-one really bothered and it hasn't caused any problems.

SirChenjin · 27/04/2015 21:15

So you think that some of the tone of some of the No posters are huffy? And anti Scottish because...?

starwarslegoboy · 27/04/2015 21:17

Because I can read

chocoluvva · 27/04/2015 21:18

Anyone like to explain why they're planning to vote snp for their Westminster mp? That isn't meant to sound aggressive btw. Why are they going to get around 50 seats?

OP posts:
starwarslegoboy · 27/04/2015 21:20

54% of vote - 57 seats in one of the polls today

John Curtice's poll of polls says 50% vote

JackSkellington · 27/04/2015 21:24

I hope so starwars. I don't trust polls but I cannot wait to get rid of our MP. We live in a former safe seat which is now a predicted SNP win, but former MP was awful with a very questionable voting record in the Commons.

chocoluvva · 27/04/2015 21:24

57!!!!

I might have to vote tactically then. But voting tactically is an uncomfortable business.

Why such support?

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 27/04/2015 21:25

Your claim that many No voters on here are anti Scottish is because you can read? You're making less and sense sense have no justification for calling anyone anti Scottish. Hopefully that will be the last time you do unless you can back it up.

starwarslegoboy · 27/04/2015 21:30

I do feel a bit sorry for Douglas Alexander who is a very capable politician and by all accounts a good MP in Paisley. I do think the polls are over egging it a bit. Jim Murphy is predicted to lose East Renfrewshire but that seat was a safe Tory seat until he took it in 1997. SNP are ahead by 9 points but I think that the strong Tory vote in the area will vote tactically. I have heard that the Tories who are canvassing in East Ren are telling Tory voters to vote Labour. I would be surprised if he lost it (even though he's a nob)

It won't be 54% of the voting population, chocoluvva. If it reaches that high, it will be 54% of the total vote which will be considerably down on the Referendum turnout. The SNP supporters, many of whom see this as 'Indyref - The Return', will turn out to vote en masse while many of those who do not want to vote for the SNP will not turn out at all because they don't know who to vote for or feel uncomfortable voting tactically. It's straightforward arithmetic.

chocoluvva · 27/04/2015 21:36

Well to quote another saying, 'God loves a trier' so I'll try again - why do you wise mn-etters think the snp is so popular?

OP posts:
JackSkellington · 27/04/2015 21:36

I think (and hope) Murphy will go. I used to live in his constituency and he was, you guessed it, rubbish. Grin I'll admit that way back when I thought he would be good, and I even voted Labour, but in my experience he doesn't have much time for his constituents.

SirChenjin · 27/04/2015 21:37

Still no explanation? No, thought not - no any justification for calling anyone anti Scottish and your deflecting shows you know it.

And I'm pleased that's the last word on the matter.

starwarslegoboy · 27/04/2015 21:39

What is very unknown is how many voters will be lost due to the need to reregister. Esp those who voted for the first time ever in the Referendum

starwarslegoboy · 27/04/2015 21:39

Tee hee. There there

SirChenjin · 27/04/2015 21:40

chocco - I don't think there is one single reason for the SNP being so popular. I think that the 45% will vote for them, there will be others who vote for them because they think they will best represent Scotland at WM, others will be protesting against the Tory cuts, and so on. The smaller parties are on the rise across the UK generally - not a bad thing imo.
