Its just GOPPING.
Its like a nicotine based apartheid ( slight overstatement) where the TINY percentage of smokers (a sixth of the population) in the country force the rest of us inside to get away from their stench and litter.

What do I have to 'get over' daff?

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 22:43

If I don't like a certain smell then "I" move, I don't expect the other person to do that. My preferences are mine, I own them.

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 22:49

You can't really change other people's behaviour. But you can change yours or how you respond to theirs.

I am so much calmer since I realised this.

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 22:51

My son has chronic allergies, I don't tell anyone else to make exceptions for him. I don't bleat about things hysterically. I and my son accept this and work round it. So yep, get over yourself Grin

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 22:52

Well that would be easy daff if you only occasionally came across a smoker. But are you seriously suggesting that people eating out of doors should gather up all their food and move if someone decides to smoke at the next table; that someone queueing at the ATM machine should move out of the queue if the person behind them starts smoking; that all the people standing in the bus shelter on a rainy day should move out into the rain because one person in the shelter has decided to light up a cigarette?

Icimoi · 25/04/2015 22:53

daffs, are you seriously telling us that if you haven't known personally anyone who has had a particular illness, then it doesn't exist?

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 22:54

Icimoi Daff seems to think that as long as she puts Grin at the end of her posts that makes them valid. What can you do?

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 22:55

You do sound a bit exceptional here chalet to be honest. I really don't understand why the world needs to revolve around you?

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 22:57

I don't know what Daff is suggesting. I am suggesting that if someone is already in an outdoor area, smoking, then don't go and sit next to them and then tut when they light up. They were there first.

It works both ways. Same as I am not going to go and sit next to children in an outdoor area and then light up.

Tbh if someone sat next to me with kids and I was there first, I'd probably just move away to have my fag. But I'm nice like that.

RedCheckedTablecloth · 25/04/2015 22:57

My Dh and I love a quick pint in a country pub on a weekend. The last three country pubs we have visited on a sunny weekend afternoon have all been deserted.

Just us.

We could have smoked fifty cigars and a hookah without a single soul noticing. We don't smoke.

People stayed away from filthy fag filled pubs, then they stay away from filthy fag filled gardens in the summer. In reality I find the complainers like the idea of a little quaint country pub but don't actually use it.

Then the 'locals' get all upset when 'their' pub shuts down and gets turned into a house.

A landlord cannot survive on someone popping in for the odd half once every three months.

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 23:02

Daff where did I say the world revolves around me? I asked you a valid question which you seem either unable or reluctant to answer.

Boutonneux · 25/04/2015 23:05

PlentyOfPubeGardens

What an excellent post, I could not agree more.

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 23:05

Also, given that many posters have both disagreed with you and voiced an objection to people smoking at outside tables, how am I 'exceptional'? You do seem to make random statements that bear no relation to the debate on hand.

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 23:16

Grin Why the "debate" thing? are we on question time?

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 23:18

I'm on peanuts and red wine.

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 23:20

Im about to break out the cashews myself Grin sainsburys basics by the way.

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 23:25

Poundshop peanuts - massive bag. Grin

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 23:30

Cant do peanuts due to diverticular disease apparently but can do cashews for some strange reason.

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 23:33

They have cashews too. I can't recommend Poundland enough for nuts and snacky things - nice little seed mixes and tropical mix too.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 25/04/2015 23:34

But if your town had 2 cafes, 1 with a smoking area outside and 1 without we'd slowly but surely end up with the same situation that happens in many, many pubs.

The smokers congregate in the area they're allowed to smoke in & have a chat & a laugh. Rather than keep going in & out everytime they want a fag they stay outside.

The non-smoking members of the group eventually gravitate outside as well becaues they're bored inside & all the chat is outside.

With the 2 cafe analogy you can guarantee that within a month the cafe with no smoking area makes half the profits of the other one on wet/cold/cloudy days (most of them) and shuts down.

The non-smokers slither over to the other cafe & within 5 minutes are waving their hands in front of their faces & making fake coughing noises.

Because whiles smokers are live & let live kind of people and will put up with all sorts of nonsense - non-smokers are miserable bastards who won't be happy until everyone is as miserable as themselves!!

I'm an Ex-Smoker by the way & don't particularly like it - but if it's outside I really can't justify feeling even a teensy bit bothered...

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 23:37

Oh and light bulbs too. I can light all my rooms for a fraction of the cost, its fantastic. I do however buy a load of shit in the process if not careful Grin

AWholeLottaNosy · 25/04/2015 23:38

I'd fucking ban all Tories, whether inside or outside, people eating MacDonalds on trains ( stinks), people with crying annoying brats, tattoos, obese people ( offends my eyes ), all religion, hi jabs, Sun readers, people with no sense of style, men with man boobs who walk around with their tops off, rap music and hip hop, people who can't spell or use grammar correctly. However...we live in a democracy so I can't impose my petty views on everyone else so I politely suggest you keep your intolerant views to yourself...

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 23:39

I just think people that "hate" anything have a problem regardless of whatever "facts" they can try to justify themselves with.

YABU... get over yourself OP.

Grin
daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 23:47

after agreeing wholeheartedly with AWhole, an amendment needs to be made. You can hate what you like but dont put it on others!

Still laughing at AW, fantastic post!

SuburbanRhonda · 25/04/2015 23:50

"people who can't spell or use grammar correctly"

hi jabs
