To be really cross with Center Parcs?

A little bit of back ground. In January my horse fell on top of and then rolled across me. I'm pretty lucky to still be here, I broke 3 vertabrae, 6 ribs, hip socket and smashed my upper humerous and the ball joint that goes into my shoulder was smashed to pieces I also punctured my lung. I had surgery on the arm and was in hospital for 4 weeks: I have 4 dc and it's been a terrible time for them and us as a family. My dad is also having treatment for cancer and our beloved dog was killed by a car recently, I'm still in horrendous pain and can't sleep at all it's been awful.

I decided we all needed some time as a family so I booked a lodge at Center Parcs, I went for the mid range one its not something we could usually afford but my lovely nan died and left me some money and the mid range has a physiotherm room which I thought may be helpful for me, I also splashed out on a couple of activities each for the dc. We've all been really looking forward to it.

I had a routine xray this week and a pin in my arm has pushed through and it's scraping in my joint each time I move my arm and causing damage and needs operating on asap the only time the surgeon can do is whilst we are booked in at cp I called and asked if we can change the date but all they kept saying was no I should have told them ten weeks ago and they'd have moved it. I'm so upset. Our holiday is ruined and the children are gutted I really thought they could've been a bit more understanding. Ainu?

I haven't read all the thread, but wanted to let you know that we had to ask center parcs to change a (last minute) booking we had made and, whilst they said no on the phone, they agreed to change it after we sent a very polite email with a scanned copy of a medical doc confirming our story.

FYI, we were not offered cancellation insurance as it was a last minute booking and when we called our family annual travel policy we found it wasn't covered. So it's not always as simple as 'use your insurance'

ThatIsNachoCheese · 24/04/2015 08:20

That's excellent news from Mono

skipper i have to go out and I need an update.

SkipperBlueEyes · 24/04/2015 09:20

I emailed last night with amendments and am now waiting to be told to bog off tbh

Oh. Exciting.
Good luck.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 24/04/2015 09:29

Yanbu at all. Most hotels are willing to change bookings as long as you give 24 hours notice, no need to pay extra for the privilege. Why is customer service at centre parcs so dreadful? Honestly, you very shaken down for money before you've even arrived.

stolemyusername · 24/04/2015 09:31

I think it sounds like you've had a really shit run and deserve something to look forward to, I haven't RTFT but if an email appealing to their better nature doesn't work perhaps give social media a try?

FishWithABicycle · 24/04/2015 09:35

That's a good email and I hope it works.

If it doesn't, would the holiday be transferable if you could sell it? Could you get onto gumtree, local Facebook selling pages etc etc and advertise this week 25% cheaper than whatever cp are selling last minute deals for?

Harleyjosh · 24/04/2015 09:38

Good luck OP.
Just a thought - if your children are on school holidays next week then all other families in your borough will also be on hols if it is like London. I am sure you could get someone to give you at least two thirds of the cost if CP won't help - I would if ours were not at school. Try emailing the PTA to let everyone know at your school and share it with local groups on Facebook as well.
Always worth having a back up plan.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/04/2015 09:39

Ooh. Gumtree. Anothe good idea.
No need to give up.
Let's see what Mr D says. And take it from there.

TattyDevine · 24/04/2015 09:39

Keep us posted! All the best.

Imi22sleeping · 24/04/2015 09:41

Do what Leeds said put it on their Twitter feed it'll be sorted in minutes.x

LatinForTelly · 24/04/2015 10:07

Oh, I was rtft to help with amendments and now see that your email has gone, OP. Very best of luck with it. Definitely think it was the right tack to appeal to their compassion and not be angry with them.

I'm sorry for what you're going through, and hope you get your holiday. Flowers

SkipperBlueEyes · 24/04/2015 15:49
