about drinking wine while having a bath?

a friend of mine just said she's planning to do so. I know she's very tired and that her husband's going home late tonight - and I can't help but worry for her safety.
yes I'm probably overthinking it, yes she is an adult, yes she's probably done it before and I'm sure she'll be perfectly fine and merrySmile

But as soon as she said it I thought 'please don't fall asleep, please don't drown'Confused - because another friend's adult daughter died in the bath. she had an epileptic fit and drowned Sad and I know these two scenarios are completely different but I can't help it, alarm bells are ringing and I'm worried. because she was alone too.

So yay or nay on me BU about worrying.
Also is this something a lot of people do when on their own?

(btw I am not judging her at all and of course I didn't /wouldn't say anything)

Are you getting some help for anxiety ? < meant kindly >

Lots of people drink a nice glass of wine in the bath. It is one of life's pleasures. Maybe you should give it a go ? Smile

SaucyJack · 22/04/2015 21:08

YANBU. I always worry about wine glasses falling of the edge if the bath and smashing.

Which is why I take a can of cider with me instead.

AnyFucker · 22/04/2015 21:08

White Lightening is it, Jack ? Wink

SwedeDreams · 22/04/2015 21:09

In the kindest possible way, I think you are overthinking it.

Most people are not epileptic. Most epileptics would not drink wine in the bath on their own. Drinking wine in the bath is normal and pleasant, if you like to do so.

drivingmisspotty · 22/04/2015 21:10

Hmm. How much wine? I assume she is not planning a whole bottle just a glass? I'm not sure you could drown falling asleep unless you were completely paralytic although I am no expert. Surely as soon as you inhaled any water your reflexes would kick in you would wake up and cough a bit?

Sorry to hear about your friend's daughter but I think you're right that's a different situation.

SaucyJack · 22/04/2015 21:10

They discontinued that years ago fucker. It encouraged irresponsible drinking apparently (!)

Frosty Jacks ftw.

OrlandoWoolf · 22/04/2015 21:11

Different scenarios.

I know someone whose ex died in the bath. She had an epileptic fit. Her child found her Sad

I don't think you can fall asleep and drown. I thought the body had some kind of reflex for that - but I could be wrong.

AnyFucker · 22/04/2015 21:11

I grew up on White Lightening [common as muck]

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 22/04/2015 21:14

I blame white lightening for a very nice impromptu drunken teenage snog or two...

DamselNotInHerDress · 22/04/2015 21:18

I regularly have a little snooze while in the bath - not purposely but just lie back and close my eyes and when I open them, realise I nodded off for a couple of minutes.

I think you're worrying more than you need to, but with what happened to your friends daughter I can see why you may feel a bit anxious about it.

I'm sure she'll be okay though.

Dp often runs me a bath on a Friday night and it's ready when I get back from the gym. After ive got in, he will sometimes bring me up a glass of something cold. Lovely!

TheBookofRuth · 22/04/2015 21:20

A glass of wine or two in the bath is a lovely thing. YABU.

Silvercatowner · 22/04/2015 21:26

Mugs of wine are better. Mugs don't shatter so easily (and you can fit more wine in....)

Rosieposy4 · 22/04/2015 21:31

Wine in the bath is perfect, my wine glass floats nicely, in the winter the water warms my wine to the perfect temp. I read as well ??

trixymalixy · 22/04/2015 21:32

I won't have glasses in the bathroom after DH's cousin slipped and landed on a glass and bled to death. I realise that is a very unlikely thing to happen but it makes me paranoid.

I'm quite happy to swig wine from a plastic cup in the bath however!

TheBookofRuth · 22/04/2015 21:32

I want to drink wine in the bath now Hmm

Bowlersarm · 22/04/2015 21:32

I'm always nodding off when I'm in the bath . I just wake up in yucky cold water. A good point about a wine glass smashing; the answer is to use plastic outdoor ones I guess.

VeritableFeast · 22/04/2015 21:34

I have never fallen asleep in the bath. I have a glass (just one mind) of wine at least once a week in the bath. Bliss.

Unless she us getting hammered in the bath home alone...I wouldnt worry!

Kleptronic · 22/04/2015 21:34

Me too AF. We called it Quite Frightening. Grew up on that and barley wine, which is fucking rank.

meglet · 22/04/2015 21:35

yanbu.

It seems like a nice idea, I would never be able to relax though.

MehsMum · 22/04/2015 21:38

My preferred bath tipple is sloe gin...
I have have never fallen asleep as a consequence.

TerrifiedMothertobe · 22/04/2015 21:38

Sounds lovely. Think I may run a bath...

FlaviaAlbia · 22/04/2015 21:38

Wait, back up a bit Rosieposy4, your glass floats? How do you do that? Is it a special type or do I just fill mine too full to float? Wink

Sorry Zing, a glass of wine in the bath is lovely. Unless you have a particular worry about her having drinking problem, I think YABU but nice.

JohnCusacksWife · 22/04/2015 21:41

Oh for crying out loud! Is this something else we're supposed to worry about now? Surely a glass of wine in a lovely, hot bubble bath (preferably while reading a good book) is one of life's pleasures.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 22/04/2015 21:41

Thanks for posts

trixy

I think it's just that sort of thing. Also I have a thing about not being able to bathe babies until they can sit without feeling very stressed.
so I guess it's just me

AF

yes, I had counselling for anxiety and panic attacks but that was more to do with being stressed and rubbish time management skills (as discovered to my great surprise!).

I can't drink for various reasons but I'm sure some of you will be happy with my share!Wink Wine

ok then, I'll try and stop worrying. it's just that she's on her own, that's what's niggling me. right. I'm gonna stop now.
thank you

I fall asleep in the bath most nights, I've never come close to drowning although I have come close to dropping my wine glass.
