about drinking wine while having a bath?

a friend of mine just said she's planning to do so. I know she's very tired and that her husband's going home late tonight - and I can't help but worry for her safety.
yes I'm probably overthinking it, yes she is an adult, yes she's probably done it before and I'm sure she'll be perfectly fine and merrySmile

But as soon as she said it I thought 'please don't fall asleep, please don't drown'Confused - because another friend's adult daughter died in the bath. she had an epileptic fit and drowned Sad and I know these two scenarios are completely different but I can't help it, alarm bells are ringing and I'm worried. because she was alone too.

So yay or nay on me BU about worrying.
Also is this something a lot of people do when on their own?

(btw I am not judging her at all and of course I didn't /wouldn't say anything)

AnyFucker · 22/04/2015 21:43

Perhaps you could offer to go and sit by her while she has a glass of wine in the bath ? Wink

This is cockeyed thinking, zingo

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 22/04/2015 21:44

I think you should suggest it and feedback her reaction....

SolomanDaisy · 22/04/2015 21:46

Ooh, blast away! I'd completely forgotten that existed. A blast away and a kiwi 20-20 please. I feel a little nauseous just thinking about it.

missingmumxox · 22/04/2015 21:46

I write this from the bath with my wine, my twins suggested I had a candle or too then they vetoed this invade the bath caught fire Grin
They are 10, they are allowed flights of fancy,
I would send a photo to prove my statement however I am not that pissed Grin

stonelog · 22/04/2015 21:47

Worst thing I've ever done (and I drink in the bath every few weeks or so) is knock off the glass onto the floor after the bath while flinging the towel around me.

I blame that on being short-sighted rather than the dangerous effects of alcohol + warm water though.

Janethegirl · 22/04/2015 21:47

I tend to put the wine in a tumbler as it's more stable than a wine glass when I'm in a bath.
Tend to find phones and kindles more likely to want to swim Grin than wine!!

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 21:47

I reguarly fall asleep on the rare occasion that I get time to have a bath.

It's known as multi-tasking Grin

No-one takes a bottle of wine to the bath. It would get warm!

You take a glass of wine to the bath. Should you get through the glass of wine, you need to get out of the bath to get another. By then, no-one can be arsed to get back in the bath.

I think she'll be fine.

p.s. I have fallen asleep in the bath. Without wine. But I think I would have woken up if I'd had my face in the water….

I once stayed in a gorgeous French chateaux hotel which had one of hose posh bath racks with book-rest and wine glass stand incorporated, with a single champagne flute resting in it. Ooh, luxury, I thought, a nice glass of fizz and a book in the bath.

Of course I tried to move the fucking thing before running the water and it crashed into the bath, shattering and sending shards everywhere. Highly embarrassing and not the least bit pampering or luxurious. I'd stick to plastic every time :o

OP, I'm sure she'll be fine. Please don't worry.

SideOrderofChips · 22/04/2015 21:52

I have plastic wine glasses for such occasions.

SummerHouse · 22/04/2015 21:54

iwantgin it was diamond white not white lightening you are right! This is bringing back my misspent youth.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/04/2015 21:55

No-one takes a bottle of wine to the bath. It would get warm! You can get inflatable wine buckets. Amateur!

Unless it's a bottle of vodka and they actually pass out, it's fine, OP. Relax. Try a warm bath Grin

LucilleBluth · 22/04/2015 21:59

Oh god, bath + wine+ Spotify = heaven, and I'm not exaggerating.

seesensepeople · 22/04/2015 22:03

I thought it was mandatory to have a glass of wine in the bath (not red) and that large plastic wine glasses were created for that purpose - have I been misinformed?

Rosieposy4 · 22/04/2015 22:05

Gets warm, yes, it's red, needs to be, 70% of the year out house is like a fridge.
Flavia, you need long stemmed glasses for them to float, ours are perfect, and if half filled float wonderfully. Have had one or two near misses with overfilling and consequent near surface floating Hmm
