to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

Feel a little like I'm flogging a dead horse here, but the fact is that the OECD has reported that immigration to the UK is beneficial to public services and the economy. That is, immigrants (as a whole entity) bring in more than they take out.

Knowing this, the only conclusion I can make about people who choose to vote for UKIP is that they're xenophobic. Anyone who says it's because the immigrants are putting a drain on public services is either a) misinformed and can't be bothered to find out the truth or b) perfectly aware of the truth but choose to use this lazy excuse to hide their xenophobia.

bethatasitmay · 24/04/2015 21:48

Oh sorry, goldy. Ruined it.

Goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 21:50

OECD has reported that immigration to the UK is beneficial to public services and the economy

If something is reported then it is the truth.

I report that: I am an Alien from Mars.
So it is written. Therefore it is TRUE!!!!. woo woo but there you go

DodgedAnAsbo · 24/04/2015 21:52

immigrants may well be positive. but you cant put two families in one house. you cant give two people one job.

It needs to be managed.
vote ukip

merrymouse · 24/04/2015 21:53

If you are annoying and persistent enough you can push any thread to 1000 posts. I think there was a thread a while ago where somebody was arguing something like one tenth does not = 0.1. Despite many posts, the rules of maths were not changed.

And that poster was even making a valiant attempt to argue a point.

bethatasitmay · 24/04/2015 21:54

Well, when an impartial organisation outside of the UK provides me with clearly documented statistical evidence as opposed to party politics and rhetoric... then yes, I tend to believe it.

bethatasitmay · 24/04/2015 21:57

Dodged, but more money to public services means more money for housing, education and the economy - hence more houses, hence more jobs. Less money for public services = less housing, less jobs.

Goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 21:57

Dodged.
Smile

Kampeki · 24/04/2015 21:58

Yes goldy, Nigel Farage and the Daily Mail won't fucking shut up about immigration, so we are all still talking about it.

Sadly, it takes our attention away from the real issues, but the bullshit can't be allowed to stand unchallenged. I'd far rather talk about the real issues, but instead we get stuck on what is essentially a distraction because so many people seem to have swallowed the idea that immigration is the cause of all their problems. I guess the simplistic nature of it appeals to some people.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 22:02

Well all attempts to engage the kippers in discussion of other topics have come to naught so if we wish to keep poking you then we'll have to accept you only want to talk immigration.

Goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 22:06

I had an interesting conversation with my parents tonight.
They were both, previously, (for years and years) STAUNCH labour supporters! Unwavering labour supporters. In fact, we had Communists in my family a generation ago.
But, they nearly knocked me over with a feather tonight, when they announced that this election, they will either vote Conservative or possibly UKIP! wtf?

Their words: ''Labour is too concerned with the rest of the world's problems. You should look after your own first, then, if there's anything left, then you help the rest of the world. But you should put your own people first.
You don't put other countries before your own.''

Their words. So, I do believe that a lot of labour supporters are defecting - not necessarily to UKIP, but definitely to Conservative.

So for labour supporters to do a complete about turn and start supporting Conservative.
That is telling you something.

Kampeki · 24/04/2015 22:09

That is telling you something.

Yes indeed, it explains a lot.

Goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 22:12

Yes.
We want a political party that will do it's absolute best for the people who are living in this country (whether they be born here or immigrants).
And then, if there is money left over - then you help the other countires of the world.
But not before.
Priorities need to be right.

Charity begins and Home.

It's simple

Lweji · 24/04/2015 22:13

immigrants may well be positive. but you cant put two families in one house. you cant give two people one job.

Interestingly, houses can be built and jobs can increase in number.
Building new houses is one way of creating jobs. Just saying. :)

Kampeki · 24/04/2015 22:14

As I said above, some people find simple ideas very appealing.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/04/2015 22:16

Kampeki Grin

Goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 22:17

Charity begins at home.

Look after the people in your own country.

Adequate Housing
Good Health Care
A good social support system for those that need it,

and then, if there is still enough money left in the pot,

then you can go about putting the woes of the whole world to rights.

Lweji · 24/04/2015 22:18

And then, if there is money left over - then you help the other countries of the world.

Are you under the impression that the UK is completely cut off from the rest of the world?
That it doesn't export and import?
That the last economic crisis wasn't ultimately triggered by a credit crisis in the USA?
That citizens don't go live and travel abroad where they are supposed to make a living, or be safe?
That conflict and recession abroad doesn't impact the UK?

Are you that dim?

Goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 22:19

Oh do feck off Lweji, you are getting tiring now.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 22:20
Hmm
Goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 22:21

thanks

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 22:22
Hmm
Dawndonnaagain · 24/04/2015 22:27

Goldy some history for you: At the beginning of the 1930s, Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party exploited widespread and deep-seated discontent in Germany to attract popular and political support. There was resentment at the crippling territorial, military and economic terms of the Versailles Treaty, which Hitler blamed on treacherous politicians and promised to overturn. The democratic post-World War I Weimar Republic was marked by a weak coalition government and political crisis, in answer to which the Nazi party offered strong leadership and national rebirth. From 1929 onwards, the worldwide economic depression provoked hyperinflation, social unrest and mass unemployment, to which Hitler offered scapegoats such as the Jews.
This comes from a reputable site.
It sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it.

ghostyslovesheep · 24/04/2015 22:28

some people find simple ideas very appealing

and doesn't it show!

this thread just proves you simply can't educate people who don't want their little bubble burst - who needs facts when you have rhetoric and bigotry

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/04/2015 22:28

I don't understand...practically begging for posters to engage, when they do they're told to "feck off."

I'll join Giddy with the Hmm
