To think the SNP are just bullies

Always have been and still are to this day.

Salmond boasting that they will write labours budget. Even though they will only get the similar amount of votes that the greens get. I don't support DC but even he is probably better than as.

A question for the Scots amongst us here - who do you think those who voted 'No' will vote for in the election?

CrystalCove · 22/04/2015 16:06

A lot of No voters I know are voting for the SNP.

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 22/04/2015 16:08

The Tories have been accused of talking up the SNP. And now they are being criticised for pointing out that the SNP are dangerous if they get to hold the balance of power in a Labour minority government.

Grow up everyone. Vote for whoever you want to vote for but don't try and spin it any other way than it is.

Osborne congratulated Sturgeon on her performance in the debates. She was good. He wasn't saying he liked her policies nor was he talking UP the SNP.

Labour are all but finished in Scotland and it's extremely unlikely they'll be able to form a government without the SNP holding the balance of power. That DOES put the SNP in the position where they will be able to manipulate.

KidLorneRoll · 22/04/2015 16:08

The SNP are not a single issue party. There are plenty of people who voted no in the indie ref who are SNP supporters for other reasons.

Samcro · 22/04/2015 16:09

i wish I knew more about the SNP. I mean what is their stance on disability?

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 22/04/2015 16:10

Samcro - The Tories aren't 'in'. We have a coalition government and it's been the most progressive government in this country in a generation.

goindowntoyasgursfarm · 22/04/2015 16:21

I know or know of at least a dozen people who voted No and will now vote SNP, Imperial. Better late than never.

Samcro · 22/04/2015 16:22

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons what ever, they need to be gone

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/04/2015 16:23

Bungmean - I might believe that the SNP aren't trying to break up the UK if Nicola Sturgeon would state clearly that there will not be another referendum for X years.

Saying that there won't be another referendum 'unless something changes' does not give me any faith in what they are saying, because it is too vague. Things happen all the time, and it would be far too easy for them to pick on something and say it justifies a new referendum.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/04/2015 16:24

Sorry - when I say X years, I mean they should say there won't be another referendum for a defined number of years - 5, 10, 15 - whatever. But something more definite than 'if something changes'.

goindowntoyasgursfarm · 22/04/2015 16:28

But that depends on public feeling, SDTG. Sturgeon understands that politicians are there to reflect that. Not manoeuvre it.

chipsandpeas · 22/04/2015 16:30

plenty of no voters i know will vote SNP

QueQuesto · 22/04/2015 16:33

Samcro have a read of this it might answer some of your questions about SNP politics on disability.

Mamus · 22/04/2015 17:04

If I lived in Scotland I'd have voted no in the referendum but would be voting SNP in the general election. I'm pro Union but I really like the rest of the SNP policies.

Samcro · 22/04/2015 17:07

QueQuesto thank you that made interesting reading and helps a lot

goindowntoyasgursfarm · 22/04/2015 17:25

Mamus, yes - they're certainly not a one-issue party as they're so often made out to be.

beatricequimby · 22/04/2015 17:29

Imperial look at the latest Ashcroft polls. Lots of No areas like East Ren and East Dunbartonshire have big SNP leads. In my area No voters are voting SNP to unseat a Coalition Minister, prefering SNP to 5 more years of benefit cuts etc. Makes sense to me.

ImperialBlether · 22/04/2015 17:40

But why do they always get fewer than 10 MPs, then? That's what I don't understand.

goindowntoyasgursfarm · 22/04/2015 17:42

In my opinion, people voting Labour in the past largely due to blind loyalty. But no more - not since last year.

HirplesWithHaggis · 22/04/2015 17:53

The SNP haven't done so well at Westminster in the past, Scotland has been dominated by Labour for decades. However, they were in minority gvt in the Scottish Parliament from 2007, and now command a majority (under a system specifically designed to prevent majority gvts) there, and they're proving popular. The Scots were promised all sorts of extra powers if we voted No, and that's what we did. Instantly, the offers vanished; atm we'll have the right to design our own roadsigns, and that's it.

Many Scots, whether they voted Yes or No, are a bit narked about this. They/we feel that since the British establishment threw everything at us asking us to stay in the union it's a bit much that they'd like us to STFU now. I don't think anyone expected it, but that "bit narked" looks set to translate into many, many more seats than the SNP have ever held, if the polls are correct.

And that's why we're seeing so many horror stories about how awful the SNP are, and why MPs from Scottish constituencies shouldn't have any say... They're really not all that dreadful.

goindowntoyasgursfarm · 22/04/2015 17:56

Hirples, apparently the right to design road signs is actually now being denied us, believe it or not! Shock

SlaggyIsland · 22/04/2015 17:58

The more I see the SNP being slagged off in the national press, the more I see the disgusting personal attacks on Nicola Sturgeon, the greater delight I will take in voting for them.
They are certainly not a one-issue party. Their policies reflect what I believe will be best for Scotland and people in Scotland also have a right to a voice in Westminster.

HirplesWithHaggis · 22/04/2015 17:59

:( Shock

lucycant · 22/04/2015 18:02

I dislike negative electioneering. That is what the Tories are doing.

tabulahrasa · 22/04/2015 18:06

"A question for the Scots amongst us here - who do you think those who voted 'No' will vote for in the election?"

Depends, I know some that are Tory voters but I'm pretty sure are voting labour as an anti SNP vote, but um, the vast majority of people I know who were vocal about voting no don't usually vote...so whether they'll go back to not voting I haven't a clue.
