AIBU to not want my ds to have bubble baths

I have tried all the nicer no so chemically bubble bath and it just doesn't really bubble and it's quite expensive. So I just don't do bubble bath. I refuse to sit my ds in a bath full of chemicals. It's not like he asks for it.
But my dh pours shampoo Angry into the bath to froth it up. Argghhh. Ds has slightly dry skin and it makes it worse.
But AIBU?

It didn't take much reading comprehension to see that the op here was talking about specific chemicals that dry her son's skin though. She wasn't making a point about all chemicals being bad, just some of the ones in bubble bath Hmm

SunnyBaudelaire · 22/04/2015 15:37

oh 'reading comprehension' that old chestnut.

MurderonthetopCs · 22/04/2015 17:51

I never let soap or detergent touch my skin or nor do I when in bathe my granddaughter.

Psipsina · 22/04/2015 17:59

Just one point on this, my GP told me that bubble bath is very often the cause of a sore willy in young boys - I'd taken ds in to see another GP already who had said 'try this cream for a week and if it doesn't go away, come back and we will talk about having him circumcised' Hmm (he was 3 or 4yo)

The second GP who had about 5 children of her own said 'stop using bubble bath'. I didn't believe her but apparently it is very very common.

I hate to think how many little boys have gone through unnecessary surgery because of it, if so.

Sanex do a kids one. I use their v dry skin one.

QueenFuri · 22/04/2015 18:03

I use Asda's bubble bath too my DS's have always had bubble baths saves using extra soap just pour the bubbly water over them.

A bubble is one of the best things ever Yabu!

Simple is cheap.

I love the fact that folk think lush has no 'chemicals'. It's not made of honey and magic, you know. As already pointed out, 'chemical' doesn't mean bad, either.

howabout · 23/04/2015 18:49

I am allergic to most lush things now. Mind you also allergic to some essential oils including lavender. Not allergic to imperial leather though!

Goldmandra · 23/04/2015 21:26

I can't walk past one of their stores without encountering an intense sensory bombardment from the chemicals floating around in the air. I do wish they would tone their perfumes down a little!

Janethegirl · 23/04/2015 21:29

Lavender makes me itch no matter what product it's in.

monkeysaymoo · 23/04/2015 21:34

Child's Farm is very good and smells lovely. Would rather stick needles in my eyes than go to Lush, the smell makes me heave!

Johnsons moisturising baby bath is brilliant, & Tesco moisturising baby bath is good too . My youngest ds has eczema. Fine with him! :-)

steppemum · 23/04/2015 22:50

I wouldn't ever use any matey, asda etc bubble bath on my kids, and i get really fed up with birthday presents that include generic bottle of bubble bath in a fancy shape (Tinkerbell bubbles anyone??)

I had eczema as a kid and bubbles were the easiest way to set off my whole body itching and dry my skin right out. To me they are pointless horrible chemicals - I don't mean that anyone who uses them shouldn't, I mean that when I look at them that is the reaction I feel after suffering from them as a kid.

All my kids have slightly sensitive skin, when I used Johnson's baby bath as kids their skin went dry and flakey, so they were bathed in plain water, no soap.
I then discovered E45 bubble bath and they love that, it is kind on skin and gets them clean. We also use Oilatum when I can afford it.

Kids love a bath full of bubbles.

bumbleymummy · 24/04/2015 07:24

Burts bees bubble bath is nice :)

Goldmandra · 24/04/2015 07:53

Can't you get it on prescription for them?

steppemum · 25/04/2015 08:41

gold - none of them have eczema, although I am fairly sure that if I used strong soaps and bubbles, dd would have develop contact eczema.
The E45 bubbles are fine. We used Oilatum when they were younger when I could, but they don't really need it now.

Goldmandra · 25/04/2015 09:28

I can see why you wouldn't want to create eczema just to get it on prescription Smile
