AIBU to not want my ds to have bubble baths

I have tried all the nicer no so chemically bubble bath and it just doesn't really bubble and it's quite expensive. So I just don't do bubble bath. I refuse to sit my ds in a bath full of chemicals. It's not like he asks for it.
But my dh pours shampoo Angry into the bath to froth it up. Argghhh. Ds has slightly dry skin and it makes it worse.
But AIBU?

We rarely use bubble bath for our kids (1 and 3), soap only for hand washing and occasionally shampoo and condition the big ones hair when it needs it.

They don't miss what they don't have. It's not necessary. If you like it, do it, if you don't, don't.

Soap is not great for dry skin.

Crazyqueenofthecatladies · 20/04/2015 21:41

Bubble baths wreck dd's skin, even Sanex, and give her thrush so YANBU op.

ImNameyChangey · 20/04/2015 21:41

YANBU I don't. Never have. They can blow bubbles in the garden. Don't need to sit in them.

MoanCraft · 20/04/2015 21:42

Ok my kids gettin bubbles, I obviously need to look at the products on offer once more. It's been about 5 years since I gave up with expensive brands with low bubble performance imo.
So I'll give a few of the suggestions a whirl.

Yabu stopping your ds enjoying one of lifes greatest pleasures. Not daily but occasionally with a good quality bubble bath...why not? I know e45 does a junior one.

MoanCraft · 20/04/2015 21:45

Ok now I'm swayed back the other way. Oh bugger, to bubble or. It to bubble that is the question.

Making a beard out of bubbles is like a rite of passage for kids Grin
The sanex ones were always ok when ds used to have bad skin.

Lucked · 20/04/2015 21:49

I think if DH is going to do it anyway I would rather have a moisturising bubble bath available than a shampoo which is very drying.

We have bad eczema here so just water in our bath, no soaps or wash. We use a blob of shampoo as required (1-2 x week) at the very end. I wish we could give them bubbles.

pointythings · 20/04/2015 21:50

I second the Lush ones, my DD1 has severe eczema and has never reacted to any of theirs. No problem with saving it for a treat - they are not cheap.

MigGril · 20/04/2015 21:50

we don't do.bubbles with every bath as DD had sesative skin. But we have used some of the E45 0r other oile stuff in the bath sometimes I buy it when it's on offer so isn't as expensive.

I don't think all the time it's a good idea but it's nice to have fun with some bubbles sometimes.

londonrach · 20/04/2015 21:51

To help your decide op. Grin

AIBU to not want my ds to have bubble baths
specialsubject · 20/04/2015 21:52

washing without the chemical dihydrogen monoxide is tricky.

bubbles are fun but not essential.

NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 20/04/2015 21:52

The Waitrose one is in the baby aisle, but it surely doesn't matter if it is aimed at babies or not as the aim is to get bubbles!
We've also used the Child's farm one, but it is pretty pricey - on offer in our local one today though, so was the same price as Waitrose own brand one, yay!

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 20/04/2015 21:54

I find bubble bath is great for Dd as she has sensitive skin, if I use bubble bath then I don't use soap on top.

Kewcumber · 20/04/2015 21:55

its the laureth sulphate that seems to make DS's skin dry. Waitrose did a laureth free bath gel in fruity flavours which was good - I'll see if I can find it. Liz Earle is brilliant but really needs a sponge to bubble have used it on DS since he was tiny.

DisappointedOne · 20/04/2015 21:56

I second Lush. You need just a few crumbly bits for fab, soft bubbles. And def not chemical filled.

Everything is made of chemicals. Air, water, your skin. Everything. Including stuff from Lush.

DisappointedOne · 20/04/2015 21:57

I use Ecobaby bubble bath - have done since DD was about 1. It bubbles up and isn't harsh on their skin at all.

TarkaTheOtter · 20/04/2015 21:57

Bath mine I n just water and wash hair with just conditioner. Seems to stop ds dry skin and they have tons of bath toys for fun bath times. Sometimes I blow bubbles for them to pop. If your ds isn't complaining about the lack of bubbles, what does it matter.

howabout · 20/04/2015 21:57

I vote for Matey. Bubbles save having to use soap etc - clean kids, clean bath, clean fun! - or was that too much watching the adverts :) DD does actually have sensitive skin and never had a problem with it but have had with more expensive products and she is allergic to the Johnsons baby products!

TheBuskersDog · 20/04/2015 21:57

if i have abath with no bubbles then my hair goes like straw

Can you explain how you came to this conclusion? Confused

MammaTJ · 20/04/2015 21:59

I would love bubbles but they all make me itch! They all make DD itch too, so DS has to go without while they still bath together.

I would love a Radox bath but that seems to be the worst!

CoffeeTwo · 20/04/2015 22:00

Sanex zero for children is paraben free we use that. We also use Green People organic childrens shampoo which lasts forever. I only ever buy on offer. We used to use just water but now DS is a grubby 3 year old I find he needs the bubbles!

SevenEleven · 20/04/2015 22:03

You do know that the water in the bath is a chemical? You are being a bit precious. Let the boy have bubbles and just rinse him after with a jug of clean water to stop his skin from drying out. Job done!
