AIBU to not want my ds to have bubble baths

MoanCraft · 20/04/2015 21:29

I have tried all the nicer no so chemically bubble bath and it just doesn't really bubble and it's quite expensive. So I just don't do bubble bath. I refuse to sit my ds in a bath full of chemicals. It's not like he asks for it.
But my dh pours shampoo Angry into the bath to froth it up. Argghhh. Ds has slightly dry skin and it makes it worse.
But AIBU?

YANBU. Shampoo squirted and frothed in the bath?! Surefire way to dry skin and problems right there!
Green people have a lovely bubble bath that's completely paraben/chemical/perfume free and makes a nice bubble.

buzzy1 · 20/04/2015 22:06

There is a ' good bubble' range in holland and Barrett which might be worth a try

foreverton · 20/04/2015 22:08

I second infacare ( and I'm a major Johnson's fan ) it smells absolutely gorgeous like proper bubble baths from my childhood! I get it for under a pound in home bargains. It's around £2.50 in Tesco, I saw it tonight.

Plain baths look horrible! Just my humble opinion:)

TheIronGnome · 20/04/2015 22:11

Bubble bath will have NOTHING on the chemicals surrounding us all of the time... YABVU.

Get a decent one, put in a lot and swish it in the bath as you squirt it in.

OP stated that her ds has dry skin that is made worse by putting in bubble bath, so why come out with she's being U for not wanting to put in something that can potentially aggravate it?! Confused
As a sufferer of dry skin and severe eczema, I can categorically state that bubble baths can make dry skin a hundred times worse - if it's not perfumed, most have some sort of skin irritants of some sort in such as SLS, parabens or whatever.
I'd have thought protecting a child's dry skin would be more important than pretty bubbles in the bath.

meglet · 20/04/2015 22:18

Yanbu. There's a lot worse in life than not having bubble baths.

I love a deep bath of clear, sparkling water.

Goldmandra · 20/04/2015 22:22

An eczema nurse once told me that if you're going to use anything that make bubble you might as well use Fairy Liquid and they all strip the oils from children's skin.

He told us to use plain water or water plus an emollient. He was right. Stopping using any sort of bubble bath no matter how 'gentle', 'sensitive' 'fragrance free' or 'dermatologically tested' made an enormous difference to DD1's skin.

Rinsing bubble bath off afterwards isn't going to put the oils back in your child's skin.

LittleIda · 20/04/2015 22:23

I found oilatum good for dry skin. It doesn't foam, but makes the water go cloudy, like fenjal. It smells lovely. I like the lush bubble bars too.

Shockers · 20/04/2015 22:24

I like the Child's Farm stuff too. Our whole family (youngest DS is almost 15) use the shampoo.

chickenfuckingpox · 20/04/2015 22:25

forever living aloe hand and face soap it bubbles really well and didn't irritate my sensitive ds skin at all

Pipbin · 20/04/2015 22:28

I refuse to sit my ds in a bath full of chemicals

Everything is chemicals - everything. You, me, your DC and the water he is sat in H2O is a chemical!

Cockbollocks · 20/04/2015 22:35

My daughter has very sensitive skin and actually can't use Lush stuff!!

I have found the Sanex kids is great for her and gives her a nice bubble bath - that said a bubble bath is a once a week treat and generally her skin means she just showers with water or a bit of the sanex on a flannel if she's really filthy!!!

BlackeyedSusan · 20/04/2015 22:38

I use johnsons baby bath for the children who are 6 and 8.

dd is a bit sensitive so they don't get a bubble bath very often.

MoanCraft · 20/04/2015 22:38

Oh pip in you know what I mean please don't suggest I'm saying I'm adverse to water

No, but I am sick of people talking about 'chemicals' like they are something bad. It's all damn chemicals.
'Potentially harmful chemicals' would be fair enough but not just chemicals.

RealHousewifeOfSheffield · 20/04/2015 22:48

We don't have bubbles so YANBU.
DS1 had super sensitive skin when he was younger, less so now.
I don't feel like my DSs have missed out.

Hakluyt · 20/04/2015 22:54

" a weekly treat of some cheaper bubble bath that actually creates bubbles"

Mumsnettersreally know how to have a good time, don't they?Grin

ouryve · 20/04/2015 22:59

A squirt of the Sanex shower gel bubbles up just nicely, even with our hard water.

GreenPetal94 · 20/04/2015 23:01

Bubble bath was one of the joys of my childhood, it IS fun

EightFiftySix · 20/04/2015 23:14

We've gone bubble free for a while to see if it helps DD's dry skin, but we have Duplo baths or Dinosaur baths instead - lots of fun.

Paddingtonsmarmaladesandwiches · 20/04/2015 23:23

I can recommend the Child's Farm bubble bath. No nasties and on offer at Waitrose at the moment. It's about £3. All of their products are good and non irritating to my DS's very sensitive skin. Smell nice and no parabens, SLS or SLES. I'm a bit PFB about needless chemicals too.

Waltonswatcher · 20/04/2015 23:24

We all use plain water .
No doubt we all stink ! I use the Eco balls so our clothes probably stink too ...

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/04/2015 23:26

Any kind of bubble bath made DS's skin worse. We just had toys instead.

I am crap with bubbles too. My friend once bought me a gorgeous bottle of allegedly gentle Neals Yard stuff, it smelled amazing. When I got out of the bath you could clearly see the bits of me that had been submerged, all red like I'd been sunburned, an actual chemical burn!

Caterina99 · 20/04/2015 23:54

I've never had a bubble bath!

Severe eczema from childhood (fortunately now it's pretty well controlled) means there's no way I'd be getting into a bath with anything remotely bubbly in it. Emollients and oils all the way. I don't feel like I had a deprived childhood.

2boys2girls · 21/04/2015 00:19

aqueous cream under a hot running tap froth up with hand will make lovely creamy frothy bubbles, my kids love it ,we have never really used bubble bath, I suffer from eczema so i don't use such products on my children, I even cream their skins in after bath time
