To think wtf when I see a lady holding and feeding a baby in the back of a car?!

I'm in a bus, just looked out the window and saw that in the car next to us there was a woman feeding a baby (whilst holding it) in the back. I'm not being stupid am I?! That's totally unacceptable in ANY circumstance, surely?!

Why not??? Because they have to be in a car seat! A) it's illegal and b) it's extremely stupid to think that in an accident you could hold onto the baby. Most likely that the baby would be thrown from your arms and around the car/ out the window.

I have done that before but the car wasn't moving. I was parked.

Changed many a nappy in the boot or the front or back seats.

I have been known to lean over the car seat and feed my DC when they were babies. We were all strapped in though.

If the car was moving and the baby was not strapped in then YANBU.

trixy are you Caitlin Moran? She describes doing that. I cannot fathom how it works! I have huge boobs & couldn't do it!

I'm guessing the car was moving, if so that's totally irresponsible. If parked up not an issue.

Yes I was breast feeding! DC in a rear facing car seat, me in middle back seat and I just had to lean forward and across slightly. I do have big norks though!!!

I have done this when stuck in a traffic jam on the dartford crossing baby screaming, me driving and my dad as passenger. We had to quickly swop over so he was driving and i had to get in the back and feed. Couldn't do it in the car seat (was always tricky for me to bf anyway). Was better option than me not concentrating on driving. We pulled over and sorted ourselves out when we could.

It's over, nothing bad happened and I don't regret it. So there.

This kind of thing happened a zillion times daily before the change in the law. I suppose you're not being totally unreasonable but I don't think you should get such a bosom hoiking wedgie over a passing snippet of someone's life.

Haha, I recall having to kind of bend myself right over my DS2's car seat, boob out, trying not to squish him when we went over bumps in the road, as we crawled along a motorway in a traffic jam. He was not a patient or quiet baby, amd the loud protests of hunger were far more distracting for the driver.

Not the safest thing I ever did, admittedly.

Far, fair point, a lot worse happened in the past. But now there's a lot more cars, so more chance of accidents, and car seats are freely available at relatively little cost. I just don't think there's any excuse. Surely you would just stop and feed baby, then get on your way again. However, as you say, it is snippet of their life, I am only commenting on this specific action, not their general parenting.

I do breastfeed dd (and did with ds) in the car as Trixy describes, everyone strapped in, and I don't have big boobs. I will admit that it's a lot easier with dd as she is a very tall baby, it was more difficult with ds as I had to bend my back a lot more.

However, holding the baby unstrapped in a moving car is a very bad idea.

I've leant over the car seat to BFany times too. Easy enough for me, but not for the pert of tit.
