I'm leaving for a six week work placement in an developing country on Friday and could do without this! Took the Canesten tablet orally yesterday morning but things have continued to get worse. I'm also feeling nauseous and shattered, if that's relevant.

Wise women of mumsnet, please advise me what to do!

Wear a skirt with no knickers, wash often and dry thoroughly with a cool hairdryer.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/04/2015 15:19

Canesten pessary

WorraLiberty · 15/04/2015 15:22

Canesten Once tablet and cream

It's bloody brilliant.

TheMagicToyshop · 15/04/2015 15:22

The pessary is faster acting but the tablet should kick in within a few days. Maybe get the pessary and cream pack, use the cream for relief and take the pessary with you as a back up if the tablet doesn't work?

No knickers doesn't help me... I wear super cheap thin cotton ones.

Eat no sugar. Clears up mine every time.

NittyDora · 15/04/2015 15:54

See someone to make sure it is thrush and ttake what they give you.
Also wear natural fibre pants or no pants with skirts or loose trousers and iron the gussets of your pants.
Change your towels each time you
wash if you don't already and don't
use soap or any of those pH
balanced feminine washes.
Good luck, thrush is a brute.

Duckdeamon · 15/04/2015 15:59

Cream until tablet works (although if no improvement soon you might need another tablet). Buy stocks of the tablets and pessaries to take with you!

saturnvista · 15/04/2015 16:18

Thanks. I just hope it is thrush...

I know on here everyone says you shouldn't douche (I'm not sure why) but it always has a big effect if you douche first very thoroughly before using the pessary and cream.

leedy · 15/04/2015 16:20

Yes, cream until the tablet works. If you can get hold of Canesten HC (may be prescription-only) it really helps the itching as it has a mild steroid in it as well.

Also lots of, er, airing the area. If you're still feeling uncomfortable tomorrow see a doctor/ask the pharmacist.

MrsPeabody · 15/04/2015 16:22

Cutting down on sugar always has a good effect on mine. The pessary is always great too.

cleanmyhouse · 15/04/2015 16:52

tea tree oil on a sanitary towel. works every time for me.

leedy · 15/04/2015 16:54

Oh, I remember another one - wipe with dilute apple cider vinegar. Very soothing.

Fluffyears · 15/04/2015 17:23

Wet some cotton wool and add a few drops of tea tree oil then swab your bits. Nice and tingly and makes you feel fresh.

Lavenderice · 15/04/2015 17:29

I get thrush every time I have antibiotics, the pessary and cream are by far the fastest way to get rid.

MerynFuckingTrant · 15/04/2015 21:01

I had it last month, used a canesten pessary and it was completely cleared up within 24hrs. Cutting down on sugar helps too.

FarFromAnyRoad · 15/04/2015 21:04

Can only repeat the NO SUGAR advice. None. At all. Should clear it in a day. Good luck.

Bodicea · 15/04/2015 21:04

Canes ten tablet or peasant. If it doesn't work te first one I repeat. You can also get 2% caneston cream for the pharmacy which helps.
Eat lots if yoghurt and lay of alcohol and sugary foo for a while.

Bodicea · 15/04/2015 21:06

Sorry should have proof read. Caneston pessary or pessary.
I have been known to take both when desperate.
Also can get for free on minor ailments scheme.

dementedma · 15/04/2015 21:06

How do you know if it is thrush? I have never had this but am currently sore and itchy with discharge. I have a visit to the WellWoman clinic tomorrow. I dont know if its thrush or not

Petradreaming · 15/04/2015 21:09

Tea tree in a coolish bath. Live cultures, like Yakult. You can buy live culture tablets in Holland and Barrett. They help. Canestan duo. Hateful thing. Good luck x

viva100 · 15/04/2015 21:10

The pessary works for me.
Also, getting your period (if you can last that long) tends to 'flush' out the infection (my GP told me this when I had thrush right before my period and she was right).

awfulomission · 15/04/2015 21:12

The canesten pessary. Sorts it v fast.

Bellejessleo · 15/04/2015 21:19

The pessary works quicker than the creams, I think you can get a stronger strength one from the GP prescribed than u can buy over the counter. Could you get a prescription over the phone?
