I am a new poster and after suffering insomnia the past few nights have stayed up reading lots of old threads.
There are so many that have been started about a particular dilemma and they get lots of good advice given and then they dont come back and say what the outcome was in the end. Its frustrating :D (Lighthearted)

OP posts:

The butler did it. Grin

LittleBearPad · 13/04/2015 19:11

Well MN's not a soap opera, so it doesn't work like that.

HappenstanceMarmite · 13/04/2015 19:11

No YANBU. I want to know too - especially if I've contributed to the thread.

But standby for the inevitable sorts who will tell you off for not having only altruistic motivations

Going off topic I sympathise with the sleep thing. Apparently blueberries are good and I think yoga cures all ills. MN is bad for sleep too many unfinished dramas but I totally see the attraction.

It would be funny if you never came back to this thread and never acknowledged any replies. Wink

mangoespadrille · 13/04/2015 19:15

I guess life isn't that straightforward and you don't really get neat endings.

Or they're all just bullshitters who couldn't think of/couldn't be arsed with making up a conclusion.

Or they all got bumped off by MNHQ to generate suspense and intrigue, generating more site hits as you repeatedly come back for an update that never comes...conspiracy alert!

RedCrayons · 13/04/2015 19:16

It's not Eastenders so YABU. But I'm as bad aa i will confess to bookmarking quite a few to keep up.

The 'what happened on the xxx thread' threads are always busy so we're not the only ones.

Coldcabbagestew · 13/04/2015 19:16

Depends. Parking thread yes. Advice regarding relative with terminal cancer. No.

keepsmiling2015 · 13/04/2015 19:17

YANBU at all.

Crossfitmyarse · 13/04/2015 19:21

YANBU. It drives me nuts when I get all over-invested in a thread and then it just hangs there on a cliff with no conclusion. It should be the law that we find out how it ends.

Idontknowwhatitisimwithout · 13/04/2015 19:21

Yanbu but I wonder if a lot are made up or at least embellished & the op just gets bored of it and then name changes?

AuntieStella · 13/04/2015 19:22

YANBU to wish for the end of the story

YWBU to expect it

Sometimes there are whole threads about 'does anyone know what happened to these?' which tend to show that it's not an uncommon wish. (Also that lots of people find the same threads memorable. Either that or there are only 3 real MNetters and lots of NCs)

justbatteringon · 13/04/2015 19:23

YANBU definitely not.

Sandbrook · 13/04/2015 19:30

Well I fell for the US wedding one hook, line and the other thing. I invest so much time in reading it & nothing!!! So it was made up just to annoy the shit out of people like us ??

Sandbrook · 13/04/2015 19:38

So no you are not BU especially when people ask for an update

OP - YANBU - I read some really old threads recently, really poignant posts (bizarrely, on AIBU, but before the days of metaphorical lynchinh), where you were left wondering what happened, and hoped it turned out for the best somehow

ArseForElbow · 13/04/2015 19:43

YANBU I like a beginning a middle and an ending.

cosmicglittergirl · 13/04/2015 19:48

YANBU
I'm still hoping to find out what happened to the man who parked his car outside a lady's house in Yorkshire and sat there all day for a few weeks.

GriefLeavesItsMark · 13/04/2015 19:49

It is because a lot of the big drama threads are complete bollocks, and the creator gets bored and wonders away. There is one here at the moment that I was going to report, but I can't find the 'report' button.

Faez · 13/04/2015 21:22

The US wedding one wasn't real?

PenguinsAreAce · 13/04/2015 21:27

There was a thread a few months back requesting endings, and lots were given. Might help?

lunar1 · 13/04/2015 21:28

It's the bat-shit-crazy wedding ones that get me. We hardly ever get to read about the actual wedding.

There was one years ago the op was the sister of the groom, she received and invite but her husband and children were only invited to the evening part. The op was also making the wedding cake, didn't drive and had to get the cake across the country. I may have muddled some details up but I always wondered how it turned out.

howabout · 13/04/2015 21:35

YANBU. Next time you can't sleep you should start a blog "the unfinished thread". Just so you know though ultimately nits are going to take over the World. At the risk of doing what I'm complaining about I hate when a thread gets hi-jacked and I feel sorry for the op and I wouldn't come back and update then either.

steff13 · 13/04/2015 21:39

There's one thread in particular I keep checking on, hoping the OP updated and I just missed it. But alas, no.
